The theme for the chart recently has been "Records Are Made to Be Broken" as Lorde, Miley Cyrus, and AWOLNATION have all broken records recently, and this week is no exception. "Wrecking Ball" remains on top for a ninth week, extending Miley's record for longest consecutive stay at number one, but also tieing Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" for most weeks at number one... ever. Lorde's "Royals" also remains at number five yet again, leaving her with only one more week before tieing the record for longest stay in the top five with Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble.." She needs only a mere five weeks before she ties the same song for longest stay in the top ten. It is also worth noting what is happening in the rest of the top five. Bruno Mars slides down to number four with "Gorilla," allowing "Replay" and "What Now" to surpass it, with "What Now" earning a new peak of number two. Both "Replay" and "What Now" are currently duking it out to see if either one can knock out "Wrecking Ball" from the top slot next week. If that happens, either song will break the record for longest trip to number one in one run. Ke$ha's "Crazy Kids" holds the record for longest trip to number one with 24 weeks, however it did that in two runs with 13 weeks being from its time on the chart as an album track. In the rest of the top ten, Cher Lloyd and T.I.'s "I Wish" finally drags itself out of the number eight position to earn a new peak of number six while Echosmith's "Cool Kids" remains at number seven for a second week. Lorde remains kicking butt on the chart as "Team" rockets up back into the top ten for a brand new peak of number eight. Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger's "Let Me Go" slides up a spot to number nine. Finally, the top ten sees a new entry from Ciara's "Overdose." This is Ciara's second time in the top ten following a featured credit on Nicki Minaj's "I'm Legit" back in February which peaked at number nine. The Lorde re-entry and Ciara debut kick out Jessie J's "Magnetic" and Fall Out Boy's "Alone Together" down to 15 and 16 respectively, with "Alone Together" earning the unfortunate title of biggest decrease of the week, losing 2.9 points. Below the top ten, Lorde remains right outside at number eleven with "Tennis Court" as three songs surge behind it. Katy Perry's "Unconditionally" shoots up five spots to number 12 fueled in part thanks to its creative performance on the AMAs last Sunday night. Kacey Musgraves continues her flawless climb up the chart, moving up eleven spots to number 13 with "Follow Your Arrow." Finally, Ellie Goulding's "Burn" sets the pace as it climbs six spots to number 14. The rest of the 11-20 region is filled with droppers with previously reported "Alone Together" and "Magnetic" followed by "Roar" at 17, "Do What U Want" at 18, "Dark Horse" at 19, and "Closer" at 20. "Closer" falls hard after surging to a new peak of 12 from 21 last week. "Do What U Want" is by no means down for the count, Gaga fans. The track was just a mere victim of the holiday week, which drastically took its toll on many songs, including "Alone Together." Below the top 20, Demi Lovato and Pitbull and Ke$ha blaze up the charts as "Neon Lights" rockets from 36 to 21 and "Timber" leaps 40 to 23 in only its second week. Both tracks saw point increases over 3, but "Timber" earns a slightly larger increase over "Neon Lights," earning the biggest increase of the week award. Between them, Imagine Dragons' "On Top of the World" shifts up to a new peak of 22. "We Remain" and "International Smile" also earn new peaks this week at 28 and 38 respectively. "We Remain" saw a nice boost after the hype from seeing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in theaters this Friday night. (It was incredible, by the way.) The song hails from said film's soundtrack. The chart sees one debut this week from Cassadee Pope, a previous winner from The Voice who also used to lead the band Hey Monday, who definitely would have charted with "How You Love Me Now" if the chart had existed back then. Pope debuts with her country single, "Wasting All These Tears" at a very nice 31. The debut kicks out AWOLNATION's "Sail" after its incredibly weird run which resulted in a measily peak of #18, but a hefty certification of 5x platinum. Also, this chart marks the beginning of the 2014 chart year! That means it's time for the 2013 year-end countdown to begin. The honorable mentions have already been named. • Good to see "Let Me Go" in the Top 10 and "Overdose" reaching there as well. • "Burn", "On Top of the World" and "Timber" jump. • "Sail" drops your chart (again) :(

Ed Sheeran) 07 20 *7x Platinum*Adds*: none *Songs that I've added to my iPod. This was quite a big week for many artist, but mostly for Miley Cyrus. "Wrecking Ball" spends its tenth week at number one on the chart, meaning that "Wrecking Ball" has broken the record for longest run at number one ever, dethroning Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" from holding the record. But let's give Taylor a hand for holding the record for over a full year. Taylor can rest easy with another record, though, as Lorde's "Royals" slips five to eight, it no longer is in the running to break "I Knew You Were Trouble."'s record for longest stay in the top five, though the longest stay in the top ten record is still up for grabs for "Royals" as it is only four weeks away from tying the 22-week record. Lorde shouldn't feel too bad, though. As "Royals" falls out of the top five, "Team" enters at number five. When was the last Lorde-less top five? August 11, 2013. As for the rest of the top five, Echosmith's "Cool Kids" makes a big leap from seven to number two, and is now poised to fight MIley for number one next week! Zendaya's "Replay" remains at number three while Rihanna's "What Now" slips from number two to number four, also earning biggest decrease of the week losing 2.7 points. "Team" and "Cool Kids" kick out "Royals" and "Gorilla." As already stated, "Royals" slips to number eight, but "Gorilla" falls out of the top ten completely. (Ouch.) Speaking of the below top 5 region, Cher Lloyd remains at her peak of six with "I Wish" as does Ciara with "Overdose" at number ten. Eight is "Royals" (just in case you didn't get that the first two times.) The rest of the top ten is new entries! Ellie Goulding's "Burn" jump from 14 to number nine and Katy Perry is back inside the top ten this week, but not with "Unconditionally." "Dark Horse" makes a HUGE surge from 19 to number seven! Unfortunately for Katy, "Unconditionally" slips. The number 12 position is cursed, I tell you. First Tegan and Sara reach number 12 with "Closer" and then crash to number 20. "Unconditionally" does the same this week. "Dark Horse" and "Burn" kick out "Gorilla" and "Let Me Go." Below the top ten, "Timber" is knocking on the door as it continues to explode, moving up fro m 23 to 11 this week. Lady Gaga's "Do What U Want" also resurges back to its original peak of number 13. Despite gaining in points, "Follow Your Arrow" slips to 14. Avril's "Let Me Go" continues its yo-yo run by slipping to 15. Also yo-yoing like nobody's business at 16 is Tegan and Sara's "Closer." They can't decide if they actually want to die or not. "Tennis Court" falls from 11 to 17. The top twenty also sees another two new entries after "Timber." "Ride" enters at 18 and "Neon Lights" enters at 19. "Magnetic," "Alone Together," and "Roar" fall out of the top 20 at 21, 24, and 27 respectively. Below the top 20, "We Remain" earns a new peak at 26, "Ribs" at 28, and "Wasting All These Tears" at 29. There are also three debuts. Leading the pack is Ellie Goulding's "Mirror" at number 30 from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack. Ellie has never failed to reach the top ten yet with two number ones in "Lights" and "Figure 8" and a number six peaker as a featured artist on "I Need Your Love." "Burn" is currently charting at number nine. Debuting at 31 is Bastille's "Pompeii." It's Bastille's first chart entry. The final debut at number 37 is Passenger's "Let Her Go," another first time charter. The debuts kick out "Hothouse," "Tell My Mama," and "Everything Has Changed." Also, another important thing to note is seen in the certifications section. Ke$ha's mega-smash, "TiK ToK," becomes the first song to be certified 16x platinum this week! Drop Out Runs: 78violet - Hothouse 03 21 36-24-14-6-12-14-11-9-8-5-3-3-3-5-12-14-21-33-29-37-40Christina Grimmie - Tell My Mama 16 13 38-32-28-27-22-16-20-19-16-20-28-32-39Taylor Swift - Everything Has Changed (feat. The chart will be posted tomorrow morning, but I have already ran the numbers.
There definitely is a new number one hit! Who did it? Rihanna? Echosmith? Zendaya? Lorde? Something else?
There's also three debuts. Two of which will be very fun to watch for two very different reasons. The other is from an icon and will be said icon's first chart appearance.

Miley's massive, record-holding, ten week run at number one has finally come to an end. "Wrecking Ball" dips from the number one position to number four and the chart has a new number one crowned. Zipping up from number three to number one is Zendaya's "Replay." "Replay" earns the number one position on its 19th week on the chart, giving it a record as well. "Replay" now holds the record for the song that took the longest to reach number one in a single run. Ke$ha's "Crazy Kids" took 24 weeks to get to number one, but benefited from two separate chart runs to do so: one as an album track and one as a single. "Replay" also holds the record for lowest number of points for a number one song, and also earns the number one spot by less than one point! There are other shake-ups in the top five as well. Echosmith blased from seven to number two last week and remain there this week. It lost the number one position by only 0.6 points! What's crazy is that the number three song is really close as well. Lorde's "Team" rises five to three and is only 0.35 points away from "Cool Kids," 0.95 points away from "Replay." This makes "Wrecking Ball"'s big drop from one to four much less surprising. Cher Lloyd and T.I. also enter the top five this week with "I Wish" at number five, taking "What Now"'s place in the top five. "What Now" slips to number six while Ciara's "Overdose" moves up ten to seven for a new peak. The rest of the top ten is either new or a re-entry. Re-entering at number nine is Avril Lavigne's and Chad Kroeger's "Let Me Go," coming back to its original peak after slipping to number 15 last week. (Oddly enough, Ellie Goulding's "Burn" falls from nine to 15 this week.) Entering the top ten at number eight, blasting up ten spots from number 18, is "Ride" by SoMo. No doubt, fuelled by finding out that my roommate knew the song and it has kind of become our "anthem." It is a strong contender for a future number one now. Also entering the top ten at number ten is Pitbull's and Ke$ha's "Timber," up one spot from 11 last week as it hits the monthly rolling effect. Kudos to it for still gaining spots and points on the toughest week of a new song's run. That is a strong sign for number one candidacy. The three newbies in the top ten kick out Katy Perry's "Dark Horse," Ellie Goulding's "Burn," and sadly Lorde's "Royals," which fall to 11, 15, and 19 respectively. "Royals" must have taken a big hit from losing a big week to fall eleven spots, thus losing the chance to break the record for longest stay in the top ten, but it is not the biggest decrease of the week. That unfortunate honor goes to Fall Out Boy's "Alone Together" at 31, which falls 2.45 points. Alternatively, this week's biggest increase of the week is Ellie Goulding's "Mirror," which vaults from 30 to number 12, surpasing "Burn"! It will be really interesting to watch to see if Ellie can sustain to hits at the same time on my chart. "Burn" is her official single while "Mirror" is a track from a film soundtrack. It gains 4.8 points. "Do What U Want" remains at number 13 while Katy Perry's "Unconditionally" gains back positions to number 14, though shy of its original peak of number 12 and still behind "Dark Horse." "Follow Your Arrow" also slips in positions to number 16, but barely loses any points. Lorde's "Tennis Court" sits right above "Royals" at number 18 while Bruno Mars continues his descent with "Gorilla," which falls to number 20. Demi Lovato's "Neon Lights" shines as it moves up to a new peak of 17. Below the top 20, other songs earning new peaks are "We Remain" at 23, "Pompeii" at 30 and "Let Her Go" at 35. It is also worthy to note "On Top of the World" returns to its original peak of 22. The chart sees three debuts this week, all three of them special in their own way. The highest debut comes in at number 26 from Kelly Clarkson. It is "Underneath the Tree," the main single from her Wrapped in Red Christmas album. This marks Kelly's ninth chart entry and also marks this as the first Christmas track to ever make the chart. It has such a short window before the Christmas season is over, so it will be very interesting to see how this plays out on my chart. Debuting at 33 is Britney Spears' "Perfume," the second single from her eighth studio album, Britney Jean. Surprisingly, this is the pop icon's first chart entry for me, though it's easy to see why if you look at her history since my chart's inception in January 2012. Since then, Britney was featured on the crappy will.i.am song, "Scream & Shout," did that weird song for The Smurfs, "Ooh La La," and gave us dubstep/pop gone wrong with "Work Bitch." "Perfume" is her first song I've liked since the Femme Fatale era, which likely would've had two or three number ones with me with "Til the World Ends," "I Wanna Go," and "Criminal," with "Hold It Against Me" also being a minor hit. The final debut at 38 is "Let It Go" by Idina Menzel from the Disney musical Frozen. This is the first time a song directly from a movie has made my chart, so like "Underneath the Tree," it will interesting to see how it plays out on the chart. The three debuts kick out "Wake Me Up!," "Hold On, We're Going Home," and "Red." Drop Out Runs: Avicii - Wake Me Up! 04 17 39-32-28-19-21-14-14-9-4-6-6-9-27-23-29-33-40Drake - Hold On, We're Going Home (feat. ^No time to watch the video or no time to make one? Because I think I found a pretty easy way to make it that shouldn't take but maybe 20 minutes tops. If it's the first one, oh well. I made it for myself anyway. Edit: Also, what's up with the One Direction dude?

Sam Smith) The Fray - Love Don't Die Lily Allen - Hard Out Here *Songs that I've added to my iPod. For the first time in chart history, there is a tie for the number one position! Both Echosmith's "Cool Kids" and Zendaya's "Replay" earned 21.8 points this week, tieing in chart point. However, chart rules claim that in the event of a tie, the change in points will determine placement. Because "Cool Kids" gained more points than "Replay," it takes the number one spot, giving the chart another brand new number one hit this week, bringing the total number to 29! There is still one more week left before the first chart dated for 2014. Will we see the 30th number one hit before 2013 ends? In the rest of the top five, "Team" remains at number three and "Wrecking Ball" slips a spot to number five. Number four is a very big increase for Katy Perry. "Unconditionally" pole vaults from number 14 to number four, gaining 3.9 points. Oddly enough, this comes just after the announcement of "Dark Horse" as the third single and "Unconditionally"'s death as the second single. "Unconditionally" pushes out "I Wish" from the top five. In the rest of the top ten, things gets a little dirty and confusing. Chart points are going erratic as too many songs are fighting for top ten positions with not enough room to go around. A simple slip in points can cause a song to fall hard. For example, leaving the top ten this week is Rihanna's "What Now," falling nine positions, even though it only lost 0.25 points. "I Wish" lands at number six this week. SoMo's "Ride" moves up to a new peak of seven, Avril Lavigne's "Let Me Go" also moves up a spot to a new peak of eight. The chart sees two other new top ten etries other than "Unconditionally." Lady Gaga and R. Kelly enter at number nine with "Do What U Want," marking both artists' first top ten hit on the chart. Kacey Musgraves continues her streak and pushes "Follow Your Arrow" into the top ten, making it her third top ten in a row after "Merry Go 'Round" peaked at number three and "Blowin' Smoke" peaked at number ten. The three new top ten entries kick out Ciara's "Overdose" and Pitbull's "Timber" along with "What Now." Both "Overdose" and "Timber" gained points despite falling out of the top ten. Below the top twenty, Ellie Goulding takes "Burn" up to number 11 in hopes to re-enter the top ten. However, "Mirror" falls six spots to 18 after taking a HUGE leap from 30 to 12 last week. "Mirror" is another victim of the extreme chart points. It lost only half a point. "Overdose" and "Timber" landed at 12 and 13 respectively. Katy's newest single, "Dark Horse," slips to number 14, though it's likely to see a huge turn around soon. Demi Lovato moves up a spot to a new peak of 16 with "Neon Lights." "Royals" remains at number 19. The rest of the top twenty is brand new! Kelly Clarkson's "Underneath the Tree" leaps from 26 to 17 and gains 4 full points, giving it the honor of biggest increase of the week. (Biggest decrease of the week goes to Avril's "Rock N Roll" at number 40, losing 1.55 points.) Bastille also sees a big leap to number 20 from number 30 with "Pompeii." Directly below the top twenty, "On Top of the World" earns a new peak of 21. Other songs earning new peaks include "Wasting All These Tears" at 24, "Let It Go" at 27, and "Perfume" at 31. The chart also sees two debuts, both again being very interesting debuts. Debuting at number 30 is "Play the Game" by Ellesello. Probably all of my readers have never heard of Ellesello. Ellesello (pronounced l-s-l-o) is a rock band whose lead singer just so happens to be my college's drum major. He's a very musically giften person, and it's very exciting to actually know someone who is making original music. "Play the Game" can be purchased on iTunes for $0.99. Check the song out in the video at the end! The other debut at 33 is One Direction's "Story of My Life." Yep, One Direction have managed to do the unthinkable and make it to my personal chart. The two debuts kicked out two Katy Perry songs. The lead single, "Roar," and album track, "International Smile." Drop Out Runs: Katy Perry - International Smile 38 05 40-39-38-39-40Katy Perry - Roar 03 17 40-22-7-11-6-4-6-3-4-3-3-6-7-13-17-27-36Newly Certified This Week: See all certifications here!

Echosmith closes off the year at number one with "Cool Kids" bringing the total of number one hits for 2013 to 15 with 16 artists reaching the top spot (Taylor Swift, Ke$ha, Neon Trees, Kaskade, Ellie Goulding, P!nk, Nate Ruess, Demi Lovato, Icona Pop, Charli XCX, Selena Gomez, Paramore, Miley Cyrus, Lorde, Zendaya, and Echosmith). "Cool Kids" increases in points and takes a decent lead over the number two song, which this week is Katy Perry's "Unconditionally." This is the highest a Katy Perry song has charted since "Wide Awake" went to number one for five weeks in July 2012. Lorde's "Team" remains at number three for yet another week. The rest of the top five is new. Avril Lavigne and hubby Chad Kroeger zip into the top five at number four with "Let Me Go" while Lady Gaga and R. Kelly also enter the top five with "Do What U Want." This is the first top five for all artists involved save Avril Lavigne, who went top five earlier this year with "Here's to Never Growing Up." The two new entries kick out "Replay" and "Wrecking Ball." "Replay" slips to number six as "Wrecking Ball" falls to number nine. The competition near the top is absolutely crazy. Normally, a song with as many points at 17, like "Mirror" at 14, would be near the bottom of the top ten. In fact, the only two songs losing points in the top ten this week are "Replay" and "Wrecking Ball," causing them to fall harder than usual. So, as expected, the movements in the rest of the top ten are whacky. "Burn" re-enters the top ten at a new peak of number seven, shoving SoMo's "Ride" back down to number eight. Kacey Musgraves manages to hold on to her top ten placement at number ten. The re-entry of "Burn" kicks out Cher Lloyd and T.I.'s "I Wish" down to 16. Below the top ten, Ciara continues gaining points and shifts back up a spot to number 11 with "Overdose" while Katy Perry climbs back up to number 12 with "Dark Horse." Both songs are fighting to get back into the top ten along with fellow shoved-out-of-the-top-ten friend, "Timber," by Pitbull and Ke$ha, stationary at 13. Meanwhile, Ellie Goulding's "Mirror" moved back up to 14 and is fighting for its chance to be in the top ten. Its peak so far is 12. The rest of the 11-20 range are songs earning new peaks and entering the top 20 for the first time. At 15 is "Neon Lights," up one spot from last week. "Underneath the Tree" does not earn a new peak, but rather spends a second week at its peak of 17. The holiday track is likely to start falling hard next week as the holiday season has came to an end. Bastille's "Pompeii" climbs two spots to number 18. Below it, two songs enter the top 20 for the first time. At 19 is the Frozen smash, "Let It Go," which moves up eight spots. At number 20 is Imagine Dragons' "On Top of the World," entering the top 20 in its 13th week on the chart. It has matched the peak of "Demons" from earlier this year, making it the band's fourth consecutive top 20 hit. The two new top 20 entries kick out Rihanna's "What Now" at 21 and Lorde's "Royals" at 23. "What Now" lost 2.6 points, earning it the biggest decrease of the week. Below the top 20, Cassadee Pope earns a new peak of 22. The next two songs earning new peaks at 24 and 27 are Britney Spears' "Perfume" and Passenger's "Let Her Go" respectively. The two songs both gained 2.2 points, both earning the title of biggest increase of the week. Below them, only Ellesello's "Play the Game" earns a new peak at 28. One Direction's "Story of My Life" remains at 33 for a second week. The chart also sees one debut from an Avril Lavigne album track. At 38 is "Give You What You Like," Avril's fourth entry from her self-titled era and her sixth chart entry overall. The new entry oddly enough kicks out Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness" remix, rather than her own "Rock N Roll," which spends another week at number 40.
