Screw the top, let's get to where the action is!!!
This week marks the beginning of the Holiday rush as 6 Christmas songs enter the chart this week! Our first 2 recurrent casualties are Neon Trees and Demi Lovato/ Neon may be done, but Demi never reached the top 15 so she might have a chance to return in January.
Every Christmas, we are reminded of some old friends in AC land and this year is certainly no exception. The highest debut and frontrunner for the holiday top spot at the moment is Rod Stewart. This is not the first time Rod has made a big splash over Christmas. In 2004, he reached #2 with Dolly Parton on their rendition of "Baby It's Cold Outside." This year, he wants it to be colder and to "Let it Snow" as the song debuts at #18. This is Rod's 38th AC hit and his first in 5 years. His last appearance was with his rendition of "Fooled Around and Fell in Love," which peaked at #13 back in May 2007.
Another old friend pays a visit, but has been a frequent visitor lately. Barry Manilow clocks in at #22 with his rendition of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town." Barry's most recent album "15 Minutes" spawned a pair of AC hits so he hasn't been a total stranger lately. This marks Barry's 44th AC hit. He debuted and peaked at #27 back in September with "Everything's Gonna be All Right."
A familiar set of faces to current AC have the 3rd Christmas debut as Train jumps in at #23 with their rendition of "Joy to the World." The song appears on the new compilation "A Very Special Christmas: 25 Years" This is their 2nd attempt at the Christmas #1, as they reached #12 in 2010 with "Shake Up Christmas." This marks Train's 12th AC hit. They have 3 appearances on the chart this week as "Drive By" is holding at #4, while "50 Ways to Say Goodbye" moves back up to #21 this week.
Our 4th debut this week is Owl City with Fireflies. No, it's actually one of the most famous acts to bank on the holiday sales, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. TSO is the brain child of Paul O'Neill (who worked with Aerosmith back in the 80s). Rockers Jon Oliva, Al Pitrelli and Robert Kinkel make up the rest of the main parts of the group, plus of course countless members of the orchestra. They have become one of the biggest touring groups of the last decade thanks to their Christmas album trilogy, and this year they have released a new EP "Dreams of Fireflies." The title track is the first single and debuts at #24 this week. This marks TSO's 3rd AC hit. They last charted with the "Nutrocker" which peaked at #14 back in Christmas 2009.
Debut #5 belongs to Idol winner Jordin Sparks, which means we now have 3 Idol champs on the chart simultaneously. (Kelly and Phillip being the other two). Jordin brings her rendition of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" to #25 this week. This marks Jordin's 6th AC hit. She peaked at #26 back in August with "Celebrate" a duet with the late Whitney Houston. Whitney also has a stellar rendition of this song which appeared on the first "A Very Special Christmas" album back in 1987. This year, Jordin's rendition appears on "A Very Special Christmas: 25 Years."
The final debut this week comes to us from Lady Antebellum. Their rendition of the Burl Ives classic "A Holly Jolly Christmas" is the first single off their 2nd Christmas album "On This Winter's Night." The song debuts at #26 this week. This is Lady A's 5th AC hit. They topped the chart for 6 weeks with "Just a Kiss" beginning in February of this year.
Despite 2 recurrents this week, no songs received new peak positions as a result. Let's see what happens next week!!
