This Christmas, Rod Stewart is looking to snap a 19-year streak since his last #1 hit. A live rendition of his song "Have I Told You Lately" topped the AC chart for 5 weeks back in 1993. Since then he hasn't reached higher than #2. He has done that 3 times since with the live version of "Reason to Believe," his rendition of Carole King's "So Far Away" and his duet "Baby It's Cold Outside" with Dolly Parton. Can he snap that streak this year? Stay tuned!
After topping with "A Whole New World" earlier in the year, Peabo Bryson, the king of collabs, was getting ready to top the chart with Kenny G on "By the Time This Night is Over."
The top 10 also saw back to back Diane Warren smashes from Expose and Aaron Neville at #5 and #6. Tina Turner scored another late career smash as part of the film "What's Love Got to Do With It." And 1 spot lower was Ray Charles' rendition of "A Song For You," the song that earned Charles his final Grammy during his lifetime.
Whitney Houston had a pair of Bodyguard hits as "I Have Nothing" was descending the week "Run to You" debuted. Sting also had a pair moving in opposite directions as "Fields of Gold" was quickly moving up the chart, while "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You" slips out of the top 20.
Taylor Dayne was big in the late 80s and early 90s, and this week she debuted with her rendition of Barry White's "Can't Get Enough of Your Love." I haven't heard this one on radio in awhile, but I remember hearing it quite a bit up until the late 90s.
