I have to say, Carrie Underwood had a great year...
The consistency with which her album(s) sell is incredible! #7 selling album of the year, and really the top COUNTRY album ain't bad!

50 Xmas albums were on the BB200 this week.
How many will survive to stay on the chart this week?
I'm looking forward to all the current albums that will re-enter the chart.

The SHADE... It's not really shade to say that Taylor released a Pop album.. I'd hardly call songs like "Stay Stay Stay" and "All Too Well" Pop. It's really sad that so many try to diminish Taylor's success just because she goes out of the box and doesn't want to produce a safe country record like most others in the genre.

I don't see anyone diminishing Taylor's success. I have been calling her the new Adele for weeks now, but I still would not call it a country cd. She made an excellent, super successful mainstream pop cd that has a few country-influenced songs on it honestly not unlike Kelly Clarkson's newest cd.

Yeah, I mean, people can monotonously go on day after day and night after night (as they surely do) with regard to categorizing Taylor/her releases, but ain't no amount of trivial, tedious murmurings going to diminish anything she's doing, has done, or will continue to do for that matter. Call it whatever you'd like, she stays dominating and schooling 99.9% of other artists (with whatever genre she's catering to) and she does it by her own hand. Proud tbh.

It doesn't matter what people here call it. People can call it a gosepel album if they want to. It is still going to show up on the industry charts the way the industry wants it.
Fans are free to make their own comparisons based on how they classify the album.

Is Warrior the Flop of the Year? :( The second single has barely even started. I'm not going to call the era a flop when it isn't even 1/3 over yet. I'm hoping RCA puts it on sale some time in January, that should help somewhat.

I'm not diminishing the success, not at all. But she released a Pop album, that's a fact. There are a select few 'Country' songs, but overall Red is a Pop album, and should be labeled so. I own it, I LOVE it, and I repeat is constantly - but it's not Country... That's all. She still shits on everyone else with her hybrid-of-an-album, and that's commendable no matter the genre Red is identified with.

Carrie's album has quite a few pop songs too. Let's not have another discussion about this.

The industry suggests otherwise and I guarantee you the ACM's will give Taylor her 4th consecutive album of the year nomination. Usually, I keep quiet regarding Taylor but it's super annoying when all these back handed comments are made about how her album is "pop" now just because she has 3 or 4 Max Martin tracks. Her music isn't any more "pop" than most of the artists on country radio. She is still primarily a country artist and she did make a primarily country record.

I think the main difference between Taylor and the other country artists is that instead of leaning towards faux rock/pop, she leans towards straight up mainstream Pop. Most country artists right now don't sound "traditionally" country at all, they just sound like your typical HAC singer with rock influences, but because Taylor is the one with commercial success, fingers are pointed at her.

Most country artists right now don't sound "traditionally" country at all, they just sound like your typical HAC singer with rock influences, but because Taylor is the one with commercial success, fingers are pointed at her. I read an interview with Mike Reno in an issue of Classic Rock Presents AOR last year. He says it's because all of the session musicians and producers who made their names in melodic rock in the 1980s went to Nashville after Nevermind limited their prospects elsewhere. The two most influential country producers of the past decade and a half are Mutt Lange and Dann Huff. The former produced Foreigner and Def Leppard, while the latter was the lead singer in a pop-metal group and played lead guitar on the radio version of Whitesnake's biggest hit. As for Taylor Swift, she wouldn't be subject to half as much opprobrium if Billboard hadn't put "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" on top of their new country chart. It's no fault of her own, of course.

This exactly. Other than the 3 Max Martin songs, Red is basically just like any other country album these days. That's 3 pop songs in a standard country album.
