This is one of the best installments of the Hot100 in a long time for me. So glad to see "Try" go Top10 (I was afraid she'd have another Top20-2nd single) and "Sweet Nothing" also go Top10 And of course the S&S remix counts separately. As it should, it's way too different from the original lmao.

Is Alicia still gaining in airplay, sales and streaimng though? It would be great if all of them managed to go top 10 (well, Daylight is going top 5 and it has just begun its ascent) but I think Alicia is out of luck this time.

It's funny how P!nk always peaks in the lower end of the Top 10 thanks largely to airplay. Her album sales are consistently good but her singles apart from the odd track don't sell that much.

This is a solid Top 10, a lot of variety as well.
Hip-Hop: Thrift Shop, Fuckin' Problems EDM/Dance: Scream & Shout, Don't You Worry Child, Beauty and a Beat, Sweet Nothing Indie Rock/Folk Rock: Ho Hey Pure pop: Locked Out of Heaven, Try
If only Alicia had gone Top 10 R&B would also be represented...

Week Ending Feb. 3, 2013. Songs: “Thrift Shop” Sets Digital Record[/u] “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz holds at #1 for the third week. It’s #1 on Hot Digital Songs for the fourth week. Impressively, the song’s sales have increased in each of those four weeks, from 236K to 279K in its first week at #1, then to 341K, then to 357K, and now to 381K. It’s the first song in the nine-year history of the Hot Digital Songs chart to post a sales increase in each of its first four weeks at #1. The genial song about bargain-hunting has a shot at another sales record. This is the fourth time the song’s weekly sales have topped 300K. (It first reached that mark in the week that included Christmas). The song may match fun’s record for the most weeks above 300K in weekly sales. “We Are Young” (featuring Janelle Monae) topped that mark seven times. “Thrift Shop” holds at #1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for the fourth week. This is the longest run at #1 on the R&B chart for a song by a white artist since Robin Thicke’s “Lost Without U” spent 11 weeks on top in 2007. The song is #1 on Hot Rap Songs for the fifth week. Needless to say, it’s the best-selling song so far this year. It will probably be up for a Grammy for Record of the Year at next year’s ceremony. Two more songs by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis debut this week. “Can’t Hold Us” opens at #97. “Same Love” bows at #99. Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out Of Heaven” holds at #2 for the third week. The song tops the 3 million mark in digital sales this week. It’s Mars’ eighth song to reach that threshold; his fifth as a lead artist. The song also tops the all-genre Radio Songs chart for the seventh week. Billboard’s Gary Trust reports that it’s the first song by a male solo artist to spend seven weeks at #1 on that chart since Mars’ own “Just The Way You Are” in 2010. Mars’ will probably have two songs in the top 10 simultaneously before long. His follow-up, “When I Was Your Man,” leaps from #49 to #22 in its seventh week. Digital sales rank: #7 (105K). Mars is the only artist with two songs in the top 10 on this week’s Hot Digital Songs chart. “Scream & Shout” by will.i.am featuring Britney Spears jumps from #5 to #3. It’s will.i.am’s ninth hit to reach the top three (counting Black Eyed Peas hits) and Spears’ eighth. A significantly different, rap-heavy remix of “Safe & Sound,” featuring Hit Boy, Waka Flocka Flame, Lil Wayne and Diddy, is being tracked separately. It debuts at #49 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The remix sold 21K copies this week. That tally is not included in the song’s overall sales tally for the week of 170K. I asked Silvio Pietroluongo, Billboard’s Director of Charts, why the two tallies weren’t merged. Here’s his thoughtful reply: “It does not meet our merge criteria which states that a remix needs to contain enough elements of the original recording, either music or lyrics, to be merged. Another requirement is that the lead artist(s) on the original cannot become secondary vocalists on the new remix. In this case it fails on both accounts. Having other vocalists singing/rapping verses while solely maintaining elements of the chorus is not sufficient.” (I like the fact that so much thought goes into chart decisions.) The Lumineers’ “Ho Hey” dips from #3 to #4. The song has fluctuated between #3 and #4 for nine straight weeks. The song holds at #1 on Hot Rock Songs for the 12th week. Two hits by EDM (electronic dance music) acts rank in the top 10 on the Hot 100 simultaneously for the first time. Swedish House Mafia’s “Don’t You Worry Child” (featuring John Martin) holds at #6 for the second week, while Calvin Harris’ “Sweet Nothing” (featuring Florence Welch) jumps from #14 to #10. It’s Harris’ second top 10 hit. He scored his first in October 2011 as the featured artist on Rihanna’s “We Found Love” (which he wrote and produced). “Sweet Nothing” is Welch’s first top 10 hit. She previously climbed as high as #21 with Florence + the Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over” in October 2010. Welch is that British group’s lead singer. EDM is a sub-genre of dance music. It’s music that is created primarily for use in a club setting (as opposed to radio). “F**kin Problems” by A$AP Rocky featuring Drake, 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar jumps from #10 to #8. The song tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. P!nk lands her 13th top 10 hit as “Try” jumps from #11 to #9. It’s her fourth consecutive top 10 hit, following “Raise Your Glass” (#1 in 2010), “F**kin’ Perfect” (#2 in 2011) and “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” (#5 in 2012). This is P!nk’s first run of four consecutive top 10 hits since 2001-2002. P!nk first cracked the top 10 in April 2000 with “There You Go.” All but one of her top 10 hits are solo releases. The exception is “Lady Marmalade,” her 2001 collabo with Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim and Mya. P!nk has had more top 10 hits than any of these other women. Aguilera is in second place with nine top 10 hits. Lil’ Kim has had five. Mya has had three (but none since “Lady Marmalade”). Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 songs. The Top Five: “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz holds at #1 for the third week in its 18th week on the chart. This is its seventh week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #1 (381K)…Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out Of Heaven” holds at #2 for the third week in its 18th week on the chart. This is its 15th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #8 (105K)… “Scream & Shout” by will.i.am featuring Britney Spears jumps from #5 to #3 its 10th week on the chart. This is its fifth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #2 (170K)…The Lumineers’ “Ho Hey” dips from #3 to #4 in its 35th week on the chart. This is its 12th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #5 (118K)…Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble.” dips from #4 to #5 in its 16th week on the chart. The song has climbed as high as #2. This is its ninth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #3 (162K). The Second Five: “Don’t You Worry Child” by Swedish House Mafia featuring John Martin holds at #6 for the second week in its 20th week on the chart. This is its fourth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #4 (122K)…“Beauty And A Beat” by Justin Bieber featuring Nicki Minaj holds at #7 for the second week in its 17th week on the chart. The song has climbed as high as #5. This is its ninth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #9 (104K)…“F**kin Problems” by A$AP Rocky featuring Drake, 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar jumps from #10 to #8 in its 14th week on the chart. This is its second week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #15 (78K)…P!nk’s “Try” jumps from #11 to #9 in its 15th week on the chart. This is her 13th top 10 hit… “Sweet Nothing” by Calvin Harris featuring Florence Welch jumps from #14 to #10 in its 13th week. This is Harris’ second top 10 hit; Welch’s first. Two songs drop out of the top 10 this week. Rihanna's “Diamonds” drops from #8 to #11, ending a 15-week run in the top 10. Phillip Phillips’ “Home” drops from #9 to #15, ending a 13-week run in the top 10. Maroon 5’s “Daylight” jumps from #17 to #14 in its ninth week. Digital sales rank: #10 (95K)….Kelly Clarkson’s “Catch My Breath” jumps from #22 to #19 in its 15th week…Of Monsters And Men’s “Little Talks” jumps from #23 to #20 in its 37th week…“Love Me” by Lil Wayne featuring Drake & Future drops from #16 to #21 in its third week. Digital sales rank: #6 (109K). Mumford & Sons’ “I Will Wait” jumps from #31 to #26 in its 26th week. The song has climbed as high as #23. The band’s Grammy performance on Sunday should boost the song to a chart new peak. The Band Perry’s “Better Dig Two” holds at #29 for the second week in its 14th week. It returns to #1 on Hot Country Songs after being displaced last week by Gary Allan’s “Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain).” This is its second week on top. Trinidad James’ “All Gold Everything” jumps from #40 to #36 in its eighth week...Rihanna’s “Pour It Up” jumps from #46 to #37 in its fifth week. A second Rihanna song debuts this week: “Loveeeeee Song” (featuring Future) debuts at #100. Both songs are from Rihanna’s former #1 album, Unapologetic. Blake Shelton’s “Sure Be Cool If You Did” jumps from #48 to #39 in its fourth week…“Poetic Justice” by Kendrick Lamar featuring Drake jumps from #51 to #43 in its 15th week…Tim McGraw’s “One Of Those Nights” jumps from #52 to #45 in its 10th week…“Troublemaker” by Olly Murs featuring Flo Rida jumps from #65 to #57 in its third week. The song topped the Official U.K. chart for two weeks in December. Justin Bieber’s “Nothing Like Us” is the week’s top new entry at #59. Bieber also debuts at #98 with an acoustic version of his former top 10 hit “As Long As You Love Me.” Both songs are from Believe Acoustic, which enters The Billboard 200 at #1 this week. “YOLO” by the Lonely Island featuring Adam Levine and Kendrick Lamar is the week’s second highest new entry at #60. The song was first heard on the Jan. 26 episode of Saturday Night Live, on which Levine was host and Lamar was musical guest. This is vying to become the Lonely Island’s second top 40 hit. “I Just Had Sex” (featuring Akon) reached #30 in January 2011. “YOLO” (the acronym stands for You Only Live Once) is from the Lonely Island’s upcoming third album. Future’s “Neva End” jumps from #71 to #64 in its ninth week…fun.’s “Carry On” jumps from #75 to #65 in its fifth week…Lee Brice’s “I Drive Your Truck” jumps from #76 to #67 in its fifth week. “I Love It” by Icona Pop featuring Charli XCX debuts at #69. This was featured recently on the hot HBO series Girls. Icona Pop is a female duo from Sweden… “Feel This Moment” by Pitbull featuring Christina Aguilera jumps from #99 to #76 in its second week. The song samples a-ha’s 1985 smash “Take On Me.”…Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart” jumps from #89 to #82 in its second week…Florida Georgia Line’s “Get Your Shine On” jumps from #96 to #85 in its second week…The Glee version of Ne-Yo’s former top 10 hit “Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself)” debuts at #91. R.I.P. The Troggs’ “Wild Thing” hit #1 in July 1966, becoming, arguably, the hardest rocking single to reach #1 to that point. The English group returned to the top 10 in May 1968 with “Love Is All Around.” The Troggs’ lead singer, Reg Presley, who wrote the latter hit, died on Monday. He was 71. music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/week-ending-feb-3-2013-songs-thrift-shop-225307558.html;_ylt=Am8AHtIAkP0NkYp6efrk_c0PwiUv;_ylu=X3oDMTFkYTZnZmZkBG1pdANNdXNpYyBCbG9nIEluZGV4BHBvcwMxBHNlYwNNZWRpYUJsb2dJbmRleA--;_ylg=X3oDMTFpMm9iMzh1BGludGwDdXMEbGFuZwNlbi11cwRwc3RhaWQDBHBzdGNhdANibG9nBHB0A3NlY3Rpb25z;_ylv=3

I think if its CHR airplay were higher it would probably sell more too. I never get this arguement. Isn't this true for every song? I didn't mean to state the obvious with that comment, oops. But no, greater airplay doesn't necessarily equal greater sales. Calvin Harris and Ne-Yo's "Let's Go" wasn't a sales dud but it never quite kept pace with its airplay peak, IIRC. The same goes for P!nk's "Try" (in her case I think people are buying the album). Some songs are great for pop radio but for whatever reason don't attract a single-buying audience. Normally I would think CMB is that kind of song but because its sales and airplay are tracking in about the same area position-wise, I'm thinking now that this isn't the case. We probably will never know for sure though, as I don't see it breaking the top 10 in airplay. (But yay, it officially made the top 20! )

Interesting that the acoustic version of ALAYLM was allowed to chart separately from the original song. Has this happened before?

Interesting that the acoustic version of ALAYLM was allowed to chart separately from the original song. Has this happened before? I thought this was strange as well. Other than the production, it has the same lyrics as far as I can tell. Why would Billboard allow to chart it separately? "The One That Got Away"'s acoustic version didn't chart separately except on Hot Digital Tracks of course.

Unless, he changed the lyrics completely, it should've been merged with ALAYLM.

Not sure whether the HOT100 has been slower in the past, but on this week's chart:
- 13 songs have hit the 6 month (26 week) mark; - 10 songs have been on the HOT100 for 30+ weeks; - 3 songs have now hit the 50 week mark.
The addition of on-demand streaming seems to have slowed the chart down somewhat. Another factor could be the slow spread of alternative leaning songs (e.g. "I Will Wait") to Top40, AdultAC and finally AC from alternative rock and Triple A. There does not seem to be any change in the diigital sales patterns. Songs still turnover at a faster rate on that chart then the airplay and streaming charts.

^ The late 90s was like watching a glacier melt. Until the inclusion of all radio formats and non-commercially released singles, songs regularly spent 30-40+ weeks on the chart. It was incredibly dull.

This is the first time since May 2012 that "Somebody That I Used To Know" has ranked higher than "Call Me Maybe".

1 more week and I believe Gotye slips into a tie for 10th place for longest-charting song.

^ Yeah, the Hot 100 from 1995 through 1998 was torture. It was a different world, where songs would take 6 months to vanish after their peak. Think Gotye and Call Me Maybe longevity with about twenty songs. Then no singles were released. It was a graveyard.

Wow, Gotye ahead of Carly Rae Jepsen? When will that happen again! BTW, how long do you think Gotye will stay on the Hot 100?

Is the .biz section of Billboard giving anyone else an error every time they try to enter it? I cleared my cache and I'm still getting the same thing.

I have the same problem when I am using my work computer. On my home computer I have no issues. It could be either the browser version or the operating system (I am still on XP at work but I am on Windows 7 at home).
