Her debut single certainly grabs your attention. I think we may have found the song that puts the ladies back at #1 on the charts. It's moving up rapidly. www1.allaccess.com/sounds/gretredn.ram

I'm shocked at how fast this song is moving. It's looking more and more like a #1 every day. I didn't love it when I first heard it, but it's growing on me a lot. At this point I'll take anything that gets a woman back at #1.

Not my favorite song, and I think I'll be a lil annoyed if it hits #1, 'cause I don't think it's THAT good. I think there's other songs that deserve #1 more than it does. I think it's cute though. Funny.

Within the first few words of the song I thought it was a new single from the Dixie Chicks. I can hear them singing it. Oh, and I like the song quite a bit, too.

I thought it was a Chicks song the very first time I first heard it. She really has a close match for Natalie's vocals in certain parts of it.

Five weeks ago it was #55 on Mediabase. Today it's #10, with a +607 bullet. It's up 12 positions in the last 7 days alone! The song is fun, but is it THAT good, really? Nobody can claim it's anything special musically.
It must be that "Hell Yeah!" chorus. :)

Initially, I thought she sounded an awful lot like Natalie Maines, but I must say I am extremely happy to see a woman tearing up the country charts! This is the perfect song to do it too, very country! :) I wish Gretchen lots of success. My this song is so addicting... I can't get it out of my head... Hey y'all and Yeehaw!

Takes a leap into the top 10 this week, up 15-8 and is still the greatest gainer on the chart. This is definitely headed to #1.

The video for this song is great. It features cameos from Tanya Tucker, Hank Williams, Kid Rock, James Otto and Big & Rich.
Also, this is the fastest rising song into the Top 20 by a new artist since LeAnn Rimes' "Blue".

I was listening to this today and I realized that it sounds very much like a song the Dixie Chicks would do. Anyone agree?
That would explain her rapid rise. With the Chicks forced out at radio, she may be their replacement.

With the Chicks forced out at radio, she may be their replacement. Not to mention that her voice sounds almost exactly like Natalie Maines!! :) Boy, I wish radio would let those girls back on. Hopefully they'll come out w/ a new album and let everything be forgotten.

I've been keeping archives of mediabase spin counts since mid-February and loaded them into Excel... Check out this graph that shows just how meteoric Gretchen's climb up the charts has been, in comparison with the other songs in the current Top 25 at Mediabase: home.earthlink.net/~oceanblue831/images/all_spins.gifBy the looks of things, Mayberry will have a short one-week reign at #1 before Redneck Woman overtakes it.

Gretchen Wilson Homecoming Set Monday May 10, 4:09 pm ET Grand Ole Opry Debut May 15
NASHVILLE, Tenn., May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The "Redneck Woman" herself, Gretchen Wilson, could think of no better place to be on the release date of her dream-come-true album "Here For The Party" than in her adopted home town of St. Louis, MO. A native of Pocahontas, IL - just 36 miles east of St. Louis - Gretchen will perform at The Pageant, 6161 Delmar, and sign autographs for fans on Tuesday, May 11 beginning at 8:00 p.m.
From St. Louis she will jet to Atlanta for a radio visit and an in-store appearance and acoustic performance at the Best Buy in Buford, GA on Wednesday. Thursday will begin with a live interview at CNN before heading to Minneapolis for a performance at The Quest that evening and on to Detroit for a performance at the Budweiser Hoedown Friday night.
Gretchen will head back to Nashville on Saturday for a dream-come-true event: her debut performance on the Grand Ole Opry. This will be her first invited appearance on The Opry. A couple of years ago she and pal John Rich found an open side door to the Ryman Auditorium about 1:00 a.m. Thinking it was fate, they stole inside, found a guitar on stage, and Gretchen sang the entire song "If You've Got Leavin' On Your Mind" before a security guard kicked them out.
Since "Redneck Woman" hit the airwaves, Gretchen Wilson has turned country music on its ear. In a two-page spread in Entertainment Weekly, Chris Willman writes: "Her debut ... serves up a star-makingly solid combo of Southern rock and honky-tonk." The Nashville Scene gave her a rare cover story last week, she landed an extensive feature in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch yesterday, and in today's Tennessean review of "Here For The Party" Peter Cooper opines, "While Much of Music Row was still busy serving up softballs to soccer moms, Gretchen Wilson hit the country charts with debut single "Redneck Woman," a statement of purpose that landed her right between Loretta Lynn's "Country In My Genes" and Hank Williams, Jr.'s "Outlaw Women."

USA Today:
Gretchen Wilson, Here for the Party (* * * out of four) "I'm the biggest thing that ever came from my hometown," proclaims this former barmaid from Pocahontas, Ill. (population 727). Wilson's country-proud anthem Redneck Woman just might make her the biggest thing to hit Nashville this year. There's more of the same in the title track and Homewrecker, which sounds like Loretta Lynn with better-defined biceps. Chariot, with its Bobbie Gentry-meets-hip-hop groove, and the remarkably Norah Jones-like What Happened don't quite seem to fit, but for ears grown weary of country-pop divas, Wilson sounds like the real deal. —Brian Mansfield
Tennesseean:
Gretchen Wilson -- Here for the Party
Epic 3 stars
She's more than just a 'Redneck Woman'
While much of Music Row was still busy serving up softballs to soccer moms, Gretchen Wilson hit the country charts with debut single Redneck Woman, a statement of purpose that landed her right between Loretta Lynn's Country in My Genes and Hank Williams Jr.'s Outlaw Women.
''Some people look down on me, but I don't give a rip/ I'll stand barefoot in my own front yard, with a baby on my hip,'' she wailed, coming off as the anti-soccer mom: a woman who'd gladly stick a ''My kid beat up your honor student'' bumper sticker on her pickup. The tune and the image resonated quickly, and Redneck Woman became the fastest-rising debut single since LeAnn Rimes' Blue in 1996.
Here for the Party reveals a better-rounded version of Wilson, one who is unafraid to rhyme ''Christian'' (as in ''Honey, I'm a Christian'') with ''kickin' '' (as in, ''I'm gonna go to kickin'/ your pretty little butt'') but who also will sing a toned-down weeper. Frequent co-writer John Rich (of Big & Rich) serves as executive producer, assisting Wilson and co-producers Mark Wright and Joe Scaife in tipping a hat to country (Bocephus, Tanya Tucker, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline) and rock (Kid Rock, AC/DC) influences.
Wilson co-wrote six of the 10 songs, and, with the exception of Leslie Satcher and John Caldwell's Chariot, her contributions are the album's most worthwhile tracks. The title track is placed back-to-back with Redneck Woman, and the songs are bludgeoningly similar. But Homewrecker is a lively and funny update on Lynn's Fist City, and When I Think About Cheatin' proves Wilson as a capable singer of classic-sounding, steel-drenched country.
Her years as a Nashville demo singer were made possible by an ability to convey varying moods in varying styles, and by album's end, it's clear that Gretchen Wilson is not only the singer of 2004's hottest new country song, she's the possessor of one of 2004's finest commercial country voices. As Ms. Wilson says, ''Hey ya'll and yee haw.''

The single is #2 on Mediabase and fastly approaching the #1 position. It's also #2 on Radioandrecords' chart.
The album is expected to do over 200k its first week, debuting at #2, according to Hits.
Not bad at all.

I hope the Female Vocalist is based on more than one song. Even if she breaks the streak of no #1s for females, Terry Clark and Sara Evans have been doing their share as well.
Even so, a shake up at the awards would be welcome!

I just think it's about time for the Awards shows to get tired of Martina. Not that she's still not good, but they give an artist their time and then they move on, and with those album sales I can see a Gretchen sweep coming.
