Agreed with the "Dark Horse" comparison. It's not like he's probably coming back with a "Since U Been Gone" or "California Gurls".

Do we even have confirmation that their collaboration will be a single? Let's not get too concerned just yet. Besides, it may end up being a hot track. If "Dark Horse" had soulful vocals and less girly/cliche lyrics. The casual radio listener doesn't even pay attention to who's producing; it would just be a HOT song. 5. i will be pissed, and probably the only person who actually likes the song Nah, there will be at least two of us. This is very possible. He may get a major cross format hit out of this; all involved parties know well enough at this time that the public will shun anything that sounds like "Scream" or "OMG" so I think we're worrying over a form of pop music that's irrelevant to this case. Also, if I may? Usher has ALWAYS been a fan of pop music. He's not trend hopping or trying to be fake; he just enjoys making pop songs in addition to his R&B and hip hop songs. He's at a point where he has to tone it down or evolve because dancepop is dead now, but he's accomplished so much in his career where he SHOULD be allowed to experiment with any type of music that he wishes.

First he's collaborating w/the guy the stole my name (JD) & now Dr. Luke? I'm already turned off by this new project. Daaamn. I still remember when this era started. '04 was such a great year. I used to always go back & forth about this or "8701" being my favorite album from him. I think it's pretty apparent "CONFESSIONS" has aged rather well, overall. Giving shoutouts to 'Throwback' & 'That's What It's Made For'! <3

in dr. luke's very minor defense, Usher's never actually worked with him before right? so it's possible that Usher can still pull off a pop smash, just not the pop that he got from the likes of Swedish House Mafia or a Luke-less Max Martin and Shellback. dark horse has a trap beat - and is actually getting some urban/rhythmic play b/c of said urban-flavored production - so something leaning in that direction could work for usher. all the side eyes if katy can get a pass for it and usher can't. I also think it'll be something more urban. But it's not only about the sound, but Dr Luke himself. This name doesn't bring good feelings, does he? I mean, he's acceptable for Perry or Cyrus.... I have my doubts whether he's suitable for sameone whose greatest album JUST celebrated its 1Oth B-Day. I bet if Bruno or JT worked with Dr Luke they would face some backlash after it.

I bet if Bruno or JT worked with Dr Luke they would face some backlash after it. Honestly I don't even know who produces Bruno's material because it all sounds like a damn bore. He SHOULD work with Dr. Luke. As for Justin, hell no would he get backlash for working with Dr. Luke. He's already committed far worse crimes in his career and has, unshockingly at this point, always been shielded by the industry and remained in tact.

Honestly I don't even know who produces Bruno's material because it all sounds like a damn bore. He SHOULD work with Dr. Luke. Bruno's music doesn't have to appeal to everyone, but the constant success he's receiving shows he found his audience without Dr. Luke and tracks he creates I used him and JT only as an example of male artists So, if you wanna write something about him just go to his topic.I grew up with albums like... My Way & Confessions so Usher means a lot to me as an ARTIST. To me, the fact alone that he's collaborating with Dr. Luke of all people is just confusing because he can do way better than that, and unfortunately shows where hes career is now. But that's just my opinion so get over it.

Rico is good in small doses. I don't think he's stale, he's just like JD. He doesn't produce diverse sounds so too much of him is boring.
Also Idg where this Dr. Luke vitriol is coming from when all of you pop fans were getting your life to his music like a minute ago? Like is this just over the comments Kesha made? I don't mean specifically in Usher's thread, just all over this board. It's so random.
If he gives Usher something like Tell Me What Your Name Is, You Da One or even Inside Out I'd be happy. Obviously if he gets some bland 2011 electropop I'll be disappointed but Dr. Luke can make some nice songs. They're just buried in the masses of Katy Perry trash that gets released.

The hate for Dr. Luke is more towards his behavior with both Ke$ha and Kelly Clarkson. People on here really don't know how to disassociate personal life and music.

I'm not really fond of Dr. Luke, but my issue with Usher working with him has nothing to do with any other artist. It's more that I feel like he and the label are looking for a flash in the pan hit rather than rebuilding his core fan base by recording timeless music. He could release a song produced by DJ Mustard tomorrow and it would fly up the Urban chart. Hits aren't the problem; he needs to convince people to buy a full body of work. But I guess that's easier said than done, and we haven't heard any of the new material, so this discussion could end up being a moot point.

I bet if Bruno or JT worked with Dr Luke they would face some backlash after it. Honestly I don't even know who produces Bruno's material because it all sounds like a damn bore. He SHOULD work with Dr. Luke. ewwwwwwww, no. Bruno's team the Smeezingtons produces pretty much all of his stuff, there is no need to outsource. Granted I am a fan of Bruno's music, but even that aside, I feel like whatever Luke gave Bruno would be less Dark Horse and More Roar - i.e., even more bland to you than what Bruno already does for himself. Luke is a verified asshat (P!nk also reason to hate him and there are at least some Britney fans who really weren't here for how he monopolized FF), so it's not like anyone is really rooting for the guy to stick around. But I don't think personal dislike along those lines is the issue here. It's more so the r&b fans who are expressing their unhappiness about this than the pop ones, isn't it? I don't think anyone (in regard to Usher, at least) is really worried about Luke's s**tty personality, but we're concerned about Ush working with a big pop producer when most people blamed his last album's failure on him indulging too much in pop. It could be Swedish House, Max Martin, Greg Kurstin, etc.** and the reaction would still be the same. it is also kind of problematic b/c usually when someone works with Luke for a one-off, that one song often ends up being the lead single...has to be to make up for how expensive he is. So this shows either some real stubbornness on Usher's part, a genuine lack of understanding by both Usher and the label, or a huge amount of trust in Luke to get the crossover hit just right. To Luke's credit, he is generally pretty good about knowing when to jump ship from a dying trend and hop on or start a new one, so I wouldn't be worried about it being electropop. Still, the big concern is that the song will nonetheless be "too pop" for what some of his fans keep saying they want from him.

Pop leaning music has never been a good look for Usher. It seems he always get some outdated, recyclable material. I wouldn't mind him dabbling into EDM if he gets high quality tracks. I doubt this will happen, but it would be nice for him to do something less modern/current & go for more of a progessive/groundbreaking sound that is actually good & impactful. I can't sat he has yet to do anything remotely close to that in his career other than possibly "CONFESSIONS".

He should work with 40. Drake's soft emotional crying music should have been where Usher decided to go after Raymond v Raymond.

People on here really don't know how to disassociate personal life and music. True f**kin' tea. Not only on here, but in the world. It burn my biscuits when people question why I enjoy music from certain artists that are having troubles in their personal lives. Not to sound overtly unsympathetic, but whatever happens to them personally, I can give two f**ks about & does not shift my interest in their music if it sounds good to my eardrums.

Rico too? Another day, another producer. I don't want this sounding like patchwork. Ideally I'd want it to be Diplo and.... Diplo (and maybe 40). Also Idg where this Dr. Luke vitriol is coming from when all of you pop fans were getting your life to his music like a minute ago? Like is this just over the comments Kesha made? I don't mean specifically in Usher's thread, just all over this board. It's so random. I think some are bitter that he used to post here and quit once he got really famous That's how I feel as well. I may hate it, I may love it, it will all depend on what it sounds like. I'm keeping an open mind because pop or not, awful personality or not, the guy does make some fresh and infectious hits when he gets it right. He should work with 40. Drake's soft emotional crying music should have been where Usher decided to go after Raymond v Raymond. He did on his last album. He only did one song ("What Happened To U"). While I like it, I was expecting more from an Usher and 40 collaboration. I'd like them to hop back into the studio together except not to record one pre-order track, but to actually work on a few tracks together and deliver something strong. And on that note, I really don't understand Usher's shopping around approach. TOO MANY COOKS IN THE KITCHEN. He'll end up with a bit of everyone's leftovers instead of finding where the magic is and creating a cohesive sound and vision.
