I didnโt know about this! I really like the Brazilization of her classics :) I just saw that the next single is Samba. She looks lovely here, and sounds as good and joyous as ever youtu.be/LLKrvF6A4FUMy favorites may be Hoy, Mi Tierra, Ayer, Donโt wanna lose you... buy overall a solid album in terms of production and vocals. I have to say Iโm pleasantly surprised at how good she sounds. Sheโs taken good care of her voice for sure. A couple more points. First, Iโm glad that she recorded Hoy once again. Thatโs not only a great song, but itโs a song that takes me back home as it was written by Peruvian singer Gian Marco and the original rhythm was huayno -a Peruvian music genre youtu.be/1ebcHYmhy44Second, Gloria has had connections with Brazil at many points of her career. In Miami Sound Machineโs Rio album they had the big hit Dingui-Li-Bangui with a couple Portuguese words -and Brazilian vibe. They also covered popular Brazilian songs like Yo Tambiรฉn Quiero Bailar and Baila Conmigo (this was a big hit back home following the success of the original by Rita Lee). In the 90s she recorded Santo Santo with So Pra Contrariar. youtu.be/QvOYS6kKBT8 youtu.be/DmLYbRE4zE8youtu.be/ak4M7Tv7q3syoutu.be/ahusHv936K8

Gloria, Emily and Lili Estefan open up about colorism in the Latinx community: 'We need to have this conversation'
Lyndsey ParkerยทEditor in Chief, Yahoo Music Tue, September 28, 2021, 4:34 PMยท6 min read In this article: This week, as Latinx & Hispanic Heritage Month continues, Grammy-winning Latin music trailblazer Gloria Estefan, her daughter, Emily Estefan, and niece Lili Estefan return for a new season of Facebook Watchโs Daytime Emmy- and GLAAD Media Awards-nominated series Red Table Talk: The Estefans. Over Season 2โs dozen weekly new episodes, the three generations of women will tackle important topics including plastic surgery, online bullying, the Surfside condominium collapse and child abuse. And as the Estefans preview the series during a sit-down interview with Yahoo Entertainment & Life, Emily mentions one Red Table Talk discussion sheโs especially looking forward to. โOne thing Iโm really proud and excited about is weโre bringing up and opening the door to the conversation of colorism and racism within the Latin community,โ says the 26-year-old second-generation musician. โYou know, families that have siblings ranging in skin tones and colors โ some identifying as Afro Latino, some not โ and just this duality within the community of these things that weโre facing that are difficult to talk about.โ โThat arenโt talked about,โ Gloria interjects. โPeople are saying โmejorar la raza,โ which is a terrible expression implying that if your skin is lighter, youโre making your culture better or something like that โ and this is something that has been said for years in families, and some people donโt even think to say something because they donโt realize,โ Emily continues. โSo, as three Latina white women, we donโt encounter a lot of the struggles that our Afro Latino brothers and sisters do. And itโs really important, and I feel privileged to be able to use our platform to highlight conversations like that.โ โThis was one of those episodes that I hope people will see and feel that bridge being built within the community,โ adds Gloria โ who, as one of the most prominent Latinx celebrities in the U.S. over the past four decades, found her name and comments about her own skin color in the news cycle recently, when Lin-Manuel Mirandaโs film In the Heights came under fire for its lack of representation of the Black Latinx population. โOne of the things that really sparked my interest even more so into tackling this topic [of colorism] at the Table this time was when the controversy started coming out surrounding In the Heights โ that one of the people that started that conversation online, their line was, โWeโre not all Gloria Estefan!โ They literally called me out because Iโm lighter,โ Gloria recalls. โBut I understood it, completely. I understood it because I am a very well-known Latina, and I look a certain way. My skin is white, you know, whatever. Although to a lot of people, they might assume that Iโm not white because Iโm Latina! So, it may have nothing to do with your genetics; the bottom line is labeling and putting people in boxes. And the only thing when I read that ... OK, even though I go, โHey, Iโm just as Latina as anybody else,โ I understood where that was coming from.โ โA little Black Latina girl isnโt going to see herself necessarily represented in [Gloria],โ Emily points out. When asked if any of the Estefan women have been accused of having career advantages over their darker-skinned Latinx peers, Emily immediately chimes in. โI mean, I think we do,โ she answers bluntly. โI think we do. And thatโs part of the reason why we need to have this conversation. ... I think that we do walk around with these privileges, and that is why it is even more important to use our voice, to speak about it ... and there are moments as well where weโve had, you know, moments of people not calling us out but just educating us on the reality of certain experiences.โ Cuban American pop superstar Gloria in particular has had to contend with preconceptions about Latina entertainers since she began recording with Miami Sound Machine in 1977, including the stereotype that all Latinx women are โspicy,โ โfieryโ and overtly sexual. โWell, Iโve never really thought about making my self-image reflected by stereotypes,โ chuckles the elder Estefan, who turned 64 this month. โI love to break stereotypes! You know, people would tell us, โYouโre too American for the Latins. Youโre too Latin for the Americans.โ ... Which is why my favorite [fashion] look was my chaps โ because I was in jeans and leather chaps! Thatโs not Latina in any way, shape or form! Plain white top, I let my curly hair fly, and that was great. People loved it.โ โThere was a moment there, which is like: Look, for most people, a Latina woman is Lili Estefan or Gloria Estefan. And I mean, yes, they are Latina women, but Latina women are all colors, all sorts of colors and shapes and sizes and hair textures,โ Emily emphasizes. โAnd different shades and accents and different food,โ Gloria adds. โEspecially now for Hispanic Heritage Month, I think itโs important not just to celebrate our sameness, that weโre all Latinos, but for us to celebrate the beautiful cultural tapestry that we bring to this country, whether it be West Coast Mexican to East Coast over here โ Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican and everything in between. We have a lot to offer in many different ways, and we have to celebrate those beautiful differences as well.โ Gloriaโs niece, Emmy winner Lili Estefan, looks back on her own long career and believes the entertainment industry has evolved for all Latinx women, an evolution that led to a groundbreaking show like Red Table Talk. โThe Hispanic market for so many years โ like, itโs already 35 years โ Iโve seen the change,โ the 54-year-old television host says optimistically. โYou know, before it used to be more a stereotype, but now weโre open. It is totally different. I see the change, even on the soap operas, or the way that we handle ourselves. Itโs getting much better.โ Red Table Talk: The Estefans Season 2 premieres Sept. 30 at 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m. ET on Facebook Watch. Upcoming guests include Clare Crawley (the first Latina Bachelorette), Becky G, Anitta, Ariel Winter, Karamo, Amara La Negra and Gabi DeMartino.

bat- the top 40 chart for "Coming Out of the Dark" and "Can't Forget You" is the audience-based Top 40 Radio Monitor, I gather? Those were the early days, when numerous smaller-market stations weren't part of the BDS mix.
A couple of notable differences between Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 and Radio & Records' CHR/Pop charts (Billboard's included fewer stations than R*R): * "I See Your Smile" hit No. 25 on R&R * "Reach" peaked at 36 on R&R
Good conversation for Gloria and Emily RE colorism in the Latin community; of course, colorism also exists in other communities.

I miss enjoying new albums of hers. I didn't like The Standards and didn't like either Brazil305. My last one that I LOVED and still play it now is Miss Little Havana. A jewel in my opinion that was mismanaged with the wrong singles. Totally underrated. Pharrell and Gloria did awesome here. First single Wepa is my LEAST favorite song of hers (and I'm going back to the 70s with Miami Sound Machine with that statement). I find it SO annoying. With so many amazing songs in the album and they went for that. I will never understand.
Not losing hope that sooner or later this decade may see a full new album that I will love.

Heard already 3 or 4 songs of the album. Not convinced... I was such an ultra fan for so many years (albums, singles, shows), but unfortunately the magic diminished significantly almost 10 years ago with her The Standards album. Brazil205 didn't do it for me either and now this one. I'll push myself to listen to it in its entirety once anyway in case there's a song I end up liking. There has to be at least one that will conquer me!!! Still in love with Miss Little Havana and still listen to it after 11 years since it came out. My husband and my kids love it too and it brings so many memories from when we moved to Miami Beach that same year. Even though it has one of the songs or the only song I totally dislike of hers up to that point (the first single Wepa!! ha ha), the album has many great moments. It was such a wasted opportunity. It deserved better.

I had no idea about this album! I'll look for an article explaining the cover. Who is that young boy?? That's her grandson Sasha (Nayib's son). I'm about halfway through listening. It certainly feels as though she is giving Emily and Sasha more of the spotlight on here. Gloria only does 1 song solo and there are 7 songs where she does not appear at all.
