I think she's got a point. She doesn't own her masters because the industry cheated her into that kind of contract. The same thing that screwed over Taylor Swift and JoJo. That she doesn't own the masters nor her name shows up in the credit, doesn't mean that's not her song. Women in this country constantly get cheated into conditions like this, but there's a clear pattern that when it's a black woman speaking up about it, people dismiss her, even if she's as successful and well-respected like Kelis. Trust me when I say the exact same group of Twitter users that attacked Kelis today would say "we love you, Britney/Kesha/Taylor, we're here for you" the next day, even though the situation is not at that different if you think about it. The people attacking Kelis are Beyoncé fans They will pretty much attack every other R&B female artists from her time that does not have the name "Beyonce". This is why I miss the old generation when it was not just only one black female artist getting all the credit and attention. It was much more varied...Mariah, Whitney, Toni, Mary J. Blige..each getting their own spotlight and recognition.

The OG hive members were tough but this younger generation seems to take being deranged as a badge of honour. And they wonder why Beyoncé rarely acknowledges them.

I think the real venom and why Kelis threw Beyoncé in this is because this isn’t the first time she has felt Beyoncé step on her toes. This time it involved one of her songs directly. I suppose also Kelis’s issues with Pharrell and Chad are well documented at this point, so I’m sure a lot of artists would be aware of the salt there, so using material she wouldn’t get paid for would probably rub her wrong for sure. Kelis even admitted that there was no stopping her from using the song, but a head’s up would be cool. Is Beyoncé under an obligation to alert Kelis no, but I think out of respect you would.

Ring The Alarm was always a cheap and poor imitation of Caught Out There.
Kelis was always ahead of her time. She was different and unique during a time where that wasn’t appreciated.

Even if Beyoncé told her in advance, what could she have done? She couldn't prevent the sample because she's not credited. So what?
To me this is another example of throwing Beyoncé in the mix of her feud with Pharrell because she's a bigger name and she hopes to draw attention to it. And also, we have known about the sample for about 2 weeks now and she decides to open her mouth on the vigil of the album release? Girl bye.
I don't even like Beyoncé's album or the song with the sample (it's a mess) but I see what she's doing very clearly.

I’m Team Kelis on this one. Beyoncé has been stealing and “borrowing” for YEARS. From the music, to the dance moves to the videos playing in the background of her concerts. And let’s not even get started on her writing credits that are an absolute joke. I really do like Beyoncé but why can’t she give credit to those who have “inspired” her?

Support her 100% and I won't tolerate any Kelis disrespect.
To see grown people attack her artistry and diminish her talent in defense of their fave is so low brow. Why are people so quick to gaslight? It's giving cult.
We love the entertainment aspect of this industry, but we know it's dirty on the business side of things. Pharrell and company are guilty and must speak on this.

Well Beyoncé shut her up by removing the sample. It wasn't even worth it and Kelis just used her name and album release hype to ignite he feud with Pharrell. Bey was like "I'mma let you do you sis. I'm out!"

It's been known that wen Rhianna reinvented her self around the good girl gone bad era she really jacked a lot of Kelis' style.

I just know Pharrell and Chad did her dirty and it's gone under the radar. Mind you her husband just passed so just imagine her mind and then all of this(most likely due to Pharrell) happens...

This drama made me revisit her Kelis Was Here album and I feel like I've been missing out on a lot of great tracks here, especially the two produced by Raphael Saadiq: "Living Proof" and "Circus". She's an underrated vocalist for sure.

She's an underrated vocalist for sure. Love that album! So diverse in sound. Her other albums are much more coherent sounding. You can tell she's the type of artist that enjoys curating songs surrounding a theme for each musical project. In that sense Kelis Was Here definitely sticks out as her most messy, ambitious and experimental project.

It just occurred to me that Ring The Alarm wasn’t the only song from B’Day that made people think of Kelis, it was also the Diamonds On My Neck reference in Bossy and Kitty Kat…

Is mentioned in Beyoncé's new remix song...how ironic! She really is trying to make it up to Kelis for using her song. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Kelis is not on the track. Tbh all due respect she hasn't had the commercial impact of the others.
