FRANK OCEAN TAKES INSPIRATION FROM BEATLES, BEACH BOYS ON NEW ALBUMFor channel ORANGE, Frank Ocean studied R&B legends including Stevie Wonder. Now the Odd Future singer is soaking up inspiration from ’60s bands including The Beatles and Beach Boys for his next album. While being honored as one of TIME‘s 100 Most Influential People in the World earlier this week, Ocean shed some light on the sequel to his Grammy-winning album. “When I was making the first [album] there were a group of artists that I listened to, just for inspiration and to absorb the energies,” he told MTV News. “It was a lot of Stevie Wonder, and this time it’s a lot of Beach Boys and Beatles and whatnot, so we’ll see how it trickles into the music and the final product. I can’t say much other than that.” In an interview with BBC Radio 1 in February, he revealed that he was 10-11 songs into the project. He was planning a trip to the island of Bora Bora to record more. He hinted at the direction. “At the end of channel ORANGE, there’s ‘Golden Girl’ and it’s this beach scene, and I kind of want to extend that feel into the next record all together, kinda make it that theme,” he said. In between hanging out with Justin Timberlake and Vice President Joe Biden, Ocean is eyeing a tour for later this year. www.rap-up.com/2013/04/25/frank-ocean-takes-inspiration-from-beatles-beach-boys-on-new-album/

I almost wonder if Frank Ocean is one of those artists who I don't want to do another album just so I can keep him in the image and perfection he had for channel orange. Like, what if he doesn't deliver?

I'm not surprised that he's moving on so soon. He strikes me as the artist who stays in the studio and is already in the process of the next album once one releases.

The Beatles and Beach Boys?! Interesting. The Depeche Mode and Danger Mouse collabos sound promising as well.
I'm looking forward to hearing how he'll sound on the next record. I really like his falsetto, but I would love a bunch of songs done in the more fuller register he uses on "Eyes Like Sky".

Frank Ocean Cancels Australian Tour With Vocal Cord Tear, Told to RestFrank Ocean has canceled his sold-out Australian tour after suffering with throat problems on opening night. A trip to the doctors has revealed he has a tear to one of his vocal chords. The rising R&B star had launched his inaugural tour Down Under with a concert Thursday night at Melbourne’s Festival Hall. But he didn’t pull up well. Ocean’s Friday night show at the same venue has been shelved, and two shows next week (July 29 and July 30) at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion have also been axed, tour promoter Live Nation said today. His planned performance at Splendour in the Grass this Sunday now won't go ahead. "After last night's concert... it was necessary to seek medical advice due to vocal issues Frank Ocean experienced during the show," the promoter comments in a statement. "It has subsequently been confirmed that Frank has suffered a small tear to one of his vocal cords and has received medical advice that he must rest his voice." A fourth date was added when his first three shows sold out in "mere minutes," according to LN. Ocean’s mini-tour was built around his planned appearance at Splendour, in the east-coast beach town of Byron Bay. “With Splendour already in full swing this is devastating news for the event and will be for many of our patrons," a spokesperson for the festival said. The Grammy winner was noticeably off-key on his opening night. And he didn’t mind sharing the news. During a performance of “Forrest Gump,” he told the audience, “I’m sick… I don’t know if you care,” according to reports. www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/touring/4709758/frank-ocean-cancels-australian-tour-with-vocal-cord-tear-told-to

Was meant to see him this Tuesday so I'm pretty devastated about this. A fair few people I know are pretty pissed about this too. I know it's unavoidable but it's the second time he's cancelled on his Australian shows.

It feels like he's been gone for so long.
I hope this album is as good as his previous stuff...I've always gotten a vibe from him that he'll go the way of Lauryn Hill and start going a little off the wall though.

A song he recorded with Diplo, Mick Jones, and Paul Simonon, titled "Hero," will be available on Monday. It's for Converse's Three Artists. One Song series.

I like it. Seems like he's into that doo-wop style judging by this and "Superpower" from BEYONCÉ.

This N got mad that Chipolte wanted to use THEIR logo in THEIR advertisement.
Wrote a Cashier's Check back to them, with the phrase "f**k off" in the Memo.
WTF is wrong with him?

A) Why is he an "N" and b) wot is a Chipolte. ??? Anyway, can't wait for the album. Channel Orange was a classic. Edit: Hero is ab.so.fucking.lutely STUNNING. Wow. I can see this being one of my favorite songs of 2014, when all is said and done. I hope this appears on his album, or, in the very least, Jones/Simonon/Diplo return to craft some magic. My only complaint is it's WAY too short.
