Reba and Brooks and Dunn both had me near tears. I dunno why, but they have so much texture and passion their voice.

Agreed. Reba IS country music. Period. She has so much class and really knows how to sing it. Amazing job, Reba!

Wow, Reba's performance was so beautifully subdued. So heartfelt. That woman can interpret a song better than anyone. Hands down.
I agree that the Brooks & Dunn performance was good as well. Disappointed by the sounds issues with "Whiskey Lullaby" as it had great potential. Martina was good, but I'm beginning to get bored with her. Her voice is still amazing, but after a while it's just kind of there.

Does anyone know if the song Brooks and Dunn performed was already released as a single, or if it will be the next single?

My 2 cents about the CMA's:
* I was happy for Kenny to finally get a couple awards. I'm not his biggest fan, but he's had a great year and should be recognized.
* I was NOT happy Martina won again. She has an awesome voice, but we already know that. She didn't have a sensational year like the other ladies in the category did especially Reba and Terri. Even Martina's acceptance speech seemed dull and uninspired.
* What's the deal with Big & Rich? Do they think they are innovative with their music?? Do they really think they are going to "change" country music? I believe the last person who was labeled as a person who was going to change country music was Mark McGuinn and where is he now???
* I was glad Keith Urban won and was even prouder by his reaction to winning.
* Why was Shania listed as a "Special Guest" ? I thought that was strange.

Does anyone know if the song Brooks and Dunn performed was already released as a single, or if it will be the next single? B&D perfomed "It's Getting Better All The Time", which is scheduled to be the next single from their Greatest Hits 2 CD.

OK. I just finally finished watching the show, and here I go...
- What beautiful and morbid songs! I was moved to tears by Martina, Alan & Patty, Brad & Alison, and Reba. All death songs... all really amazing.
- Sara Evans is near perfect, and I hope she emerges as a superstar. She is so fun to watch and lovely to hear.
- Brooks & Dunn: That's what I want to hear from you! Love the new song. Who forgot to turn on Kix's microphone?
- Why was Josh Turner the only one stuck doing a hokey bumper spot? Unless he's on vocal rest or something, that was lopsided and simply unfair. Julie Roberts' performance was a little forced, I thought.
- I thought Gretchen showed class and sincerity in her performance and speech. I do think it's *very* interesting she didn't acknowledge Big & Rich at all, since she had stated if she won she would 'share' the award with them. She didn't even turn to them from her seat. Has there been a falling out?
- I loved Terri Clark's girl band. That was a fun performance.
- It was hard to tell how well some people sounded with the sound being so bad in some places. It sounded like a major short somewhere. It was very apparent during B&D's song, Reba's, MG's, and a few others . And speaking of MG...
- The banter about the duo category pisses me off. It's as if it was only a 'race' this year because of Big & Rich. I think I am one of the few on this board who actually like B&R, but they can't hold a candle to Montgomery Gentry. I wish the CMA would quit writing them off. Radio play and concerts show they are around to stay.
- I felt really bad for Kenny CHesney at the end. I know Ed Benson blamed Dolly, but she spent only about 15 seconds on the New York jokes, which were quite funny. The audience reaction also stole from his time. They should have let him end the show at least. Both he and Keith Urban were so touching in their humble reactions.
- I thought Faith's vocal was lovely, and I really hope her next venture is a country one.
- I am not one of the people who feel you either love or hate Shania. I enjoy a lot of her music, but 'Party for Two' is a ridiculous, embarrassing song. It's sounds like it was written in 1985 ("party hardy?")
- Toby was sure shown up by his daughter, whose vocals strongly outweighed his. However, I thought they had great charisma together on stage. That said, what a strange song. It sounded like they were singing two different songs entirely.
- I liked seeing SheDaisy on the show... I wish they had been nominated for Group. They were certainly more active than Alabama over the past year!
- Rascal Flatts seems to have gotten over their live-TV fright. Their performance was right on.
- I love Tim McGraw. I don't get that his humility is at all false; he really wanted his producer and band leader to have the spotlight. He's another class act.
- It was great seeing Randy Travis, Trace Adkins, Clint Black, & Jamie O'Neal. I missed seeing Travis Tritt.
-Fun seeing Randy Travis get all 'oh shucks' and Kris Kristofferson oogling Faith. I love good ole' boys!
All in all, I think B&D did a good job in hosting, especially when they obviously went off script. Maybe not as funny as Vince, but fun. I hope there are more surprises next year...

*shakes head sadly* After reading this thread, I'm glad I stopped listening to country radio sometime between 1996 and 1999. (I can't quite pinpoint the exact time; it was a gradual shift) As a matter of fact, I'm not sure I even know what "Country" is anymore. I understand that Nashville would pride itself on its artists being "country" and staying "country", but...the shift this genre has gone through places it at a quantum leap away from everything else. I miss the mid 90s, like 93, 94, 95. I remember some of the big country hits from those years, and those stand the test of time. After the reception Shania got, maybe she should go for and stick to AC (and/or maybe Hot AC). At least she'd be welcome there. Although, it seems like her GH album was her one chance to be welcome at country again, and from the consensus here, releasing "Party For Two" is a sign that she's blown it. Oh, and my thoughts on the award show? Judging from what I've read, it makes the Grammys from recent years look good.
