Quick list of updates...
Several Drake singles - if I recall correctly, "No Good", "Pop Style", "Fake Love", and "Passionfruit" all didn't get music videos despite being solid chart hits. His collaboration with Lil Baby, "Yes Indeed", didn't get one either, I think.
"I Fall Apart" by Post Malone, "Cash S**t" by Megan Thee Stallion ft. DaBaby and "High Fashion" by Roddy Ricch also come to mind.

It's still so bizarre that after Hotline Bling and the music video went viral, Drake didn't shoot any music videos for his singles from 2016-2017.

"Amanda" by Boston reached No.1 on the Hot 100 in 1986 without a video. The re-released of "When I'm with You" by Sheriff reached No.1 in 1989. No video was made for it when it was originally released in 1983. "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Michael Bolton reached No.1 on the Hot 100 also without an official video but in a similar situation to Whitney Houston's "Didn't We Almost Have It All," there was a live performance video that MTV and VH1 would play.

I'd say it's debatable whether this counts as a music video, but more importantly, the version of the song that took over and went to No. 1, the Beyoncé remix, only received a lyric video. "Girls in the Hood" was a minor hit for Megan that never received a music video as well.

Thank you for doing something that is not 2010s/current.

It's hard to imagine there was at a time when MTV was so necessary and influential but these songs needed no video to hit No.1. I hope you're doing well.

Some songs just needed airplay and no video to hit the top ten like Who's Zoomim Who, Angel by Madonna, and Paula Abdul Striaght Up (there song shot up the chart fast before there was a music video). That shows how huge radio was in the day.
