www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/1923995/jay-zs-magna-carta-debuts-at-no-1-has-years-second-biggest-sales-weekJay-Z's 'Magna Carta' Debuts at No. 1, Has Year's Second-Biggest Sales WeekBy Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | July 16, 2013 Jay-Z's "Magna Carta Holy Grail" album storms in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 527,000 copies in its first week, according to preliminary data from Nielsen SoundScan. The larger-than-expected start is the second-biggest sales week for a single album this year. It bypasses the previous runner-up, Daft Punk's "Random Access Memories," which opened with 339,000 in May. Both albums trail behind the year's largest frame, racked up when Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience" exploded with 968,000 in its first week. The latest sales week ended at the close of business on July 14. The rest of the new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on July 17. "Magna Carta Holy Grail" follows three consecutive weeks of rap albums taking turns at No. 1. First, Kanye West's "Yeezus" topped the list, giving way to Wale's "The Gifted" the following week. Then last week, Wale stepped aside to grant J. Cole's "Born Sinner" a turn at the top. Now, with "Magna Carta's" No. 1 debut, it marks the first time that four different rap albums have consecutively spent their initial week at No. 1. We last had three in a row between Sept. 3 and Sept. 24, 2011. That's when Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Watch the Throne," the Game's "The R.E.D. Album" and Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" all spent their initial weeks at No. 1. Further, "Magna Carta" also gives the hip-hop icon his 13th No. 1 -- extending his record for the most chart-toppers by a solo act in history. Among all artists, only the Beatles -- with 19 No. 1s -- have more. Tied for the third-most No. 1s are Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Presley, who each have 10 leaders. Jay-Z has seen every one of his solo studio albums reach No. 1 since 1998's "Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life," which also happened to mark his first No. 1. His 13 chart-toppers also include three collaborative albums: one each with R. Kelly, Linkin Park and West, respectively. "Magna Carta's" bow is bigger than industry sources had forecast a week ago. Initially, the day before it hit retailers on July 9, the album was heading for a possible debut in the range of 350,000 to 400,000. Two days later, its forecast jumped from 450,000 to 500,000. And finally, by Friday (July 12), the range was fine-tuned to 475,000 to 500,000. The album's robust sales weren’t seemingly negatively impacted by the set's unique promotion with Samsung. One million download copies of “Magna Carta” were available for free via an app promotion with the electronics company. The set became available on July 4 to certain Samsung phone and tablet users who had downloaded a Jay-Z-centric app. "Magna Carta" marks Jay-Z's fourth album to debut with more than a half-million copies in a week. It’s also his largest sales week for any album since 2006's "Kingdom Come" entered at No. 1 with 680,000. His last solo studio album, 2009's "The Blueprint 3," opened at No. 1 with 476,000 sold. His next project, 2011's "Watch the Throne," bowed with 436,000.

^ I think that three more #1s is just about a guarantee, and then at that point we'll have a better idea of how much further he can go. That's one of The Beatles key records; it'll be strange to see it fall.

www.billboard.com/articles/news/2005381/jay-z-scores-13th-no-1-album-on-billboard-200-ciara-bows-at-no-2Jay-Z Scores 13th No. 1 Album On Billboard 200, Ciara Bows At No. 2By Keith Caulfield, L.A. | July 17, 2013 As reported last night (July 16), Jay-Z's "Magna Carta Holy Grail" album bounds in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking the rap titan's 13th leader. The set sold 527,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan, the second-largest sales frame of the year. (2013's biggest week still belongs to Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience," which bowed with 968,000.) Jay-Z extends his record for the most No. 1 albums among solo acts. He's second among all artists to the Beatles, who have 19 leaders. Entering at No. 2 this week behind Jay-Z is Ciara, with her self-titled fourth album. It starts with 58,000 sold, an improvement over the 37,000 that greeted her last set, 2010's "Basic Instinct." Overall, "Ciara" is the singer's fourth album to reach the top three on the Billboard 200. Her only set to miss the region was "Basic Instinct," which debuted and peaked at No. 44. One more new entry arrives in the top 10 this week: Skylar Grey's Interscope Records debut set, "Don't Look Down." The singer bows at No. 8 with 24,000. The singer/songwriter shot to fame as the guest vocalist on such songs as Diddy-Dirty Money's "Coming Home" and Dr. Dre's "I Need a Doctor." Grey previously charted as Holly Brook and notched a top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hit in 2006 as the guest vocalist on Fort Minor's "Where'd You Go." Under the name Brook, she issued one album, "Like Blood Like Honey," which hit No. 35 on the Heatseekers Albums chart in 2006. As for the holdover titles in the top 10 this week: J. Cole's "Born Sinner" slips from No. 1 to No. 3 with 39,000 (down 32%), while Imagine Dragons' "Night Visions" is steady at No. 4 with 32,000 (down 9%). Florida Georgia Line's "Here's to the Good Times" is also a non-mover at No. 5 with 31,000 (down 3%). Kanye West's "Yeezus" slides 3-6 with 29,000 (down 26%), Wale's "The Gifted" drops 2-7 with 28,000 (down 44%), and Daft Punk's "Random Access Memories" descends 7-9 with 23,000 (down 18%). Rounding out the top 10 is Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "The Heist," moving down two rungs to No. 10 with 22,000 (down 5%). Over on the Digital Songs chart, Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," featuring Pharrell and T.I., upholds the No. 1 spot. It sold 384,000 downloads for the week, down by 9%. Miley Cyrus' "We Can't Stop" is also steady at No. 2 for another week, shifting another 216,000 downloads (up 3%). The chart's highest debut is from Jay-Z's "Holy Grail," featuring Timberlake, which bounds in at No. 3 with 196,000. Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" is No. 4 for another week, selling 179,000 (down 3%). Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise" falls 3-5 with 158,000 (down 18%), Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," featuring Pharrell Williams, slips 5-6 with 157,000 (down 12%). Bruno Mars' "Treasure" falls 6-7 with 131,000 (down 9%), Anna Kendrick's "Cups" is stationary at No. 8 with 121,000 (up 3%), and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Same Love," featuring Mary Lambert, is also a non-mover at No. 9 with 118,000 (up 4%). Closing out the top 10 is Macklemore and Lewis' "Can't Hold Us," featuring Ray Dalton, which falls three rungs to No. 10 with 113,000 (down 13%). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending July 14) totaled 4.84 million units, down less than 1% compared with the sum last week (4.86 million) and down 13% compared with the comparable sales week of 2012 (5.6 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 151.7 million, down 6% compared with the same total at this point last year (161.8 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 22.8 million downloads, down 7% compared with last week (24.4 million) and down 9% stacked next to the comparable week of 2012 (25.1 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 729.4 million, down 3% compared with the same total at this point last year (749 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2012 when: Nas' "Life Is Good" debuted at No. 1 with 149,000. The "Kidz Bop 22" album was the chart's second-highest bow, coming in at No. 3 with 64,000.

music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/week-ending-july-14-2013-albums-jay-z-030009697.htmlWeek Ending July 14, 2013. Albums: Jay-Z Back On The Throne By Paul Grein | Chart Watch Jay-Z’s Magna Carta…Holy Grail sold a better-than-expected 527K copies in its first week. Only one album has gotten off to a faster start this year—Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience, which sold 968K in its first week in March (boosted immeasurably by “Suit & Tie,” a stylish collabo with Jay-Z). The first-week tally for Magna Carta is substantially more than Yeezus, by Jay-Z’s pal and sometime collaborator Kanye West, has sold in its first four weeks combined (459K). It’s Jay-Z’s biggest opening tally since Kingdom Come sold 680K in its first week in November 2006. It’s the best sales week for a rap album since Drake’s Take Care sold 631K copies in its first week in November 2011. Magna Carta becomes Jay-Z’s 13th #1 album on The Billboard 200, which puts Jay-Z second only to the Beatles as the act with the most #1 albums in chart history. The Fab Four has had 19 #1 albums. But the competition is closer than that stat makes it look. Jay-Z is just one #1 album behind the number of chart-topping albums the Beatles had while they were a current recording act (through 1970). (The Beatles’ last five #1 albums were compilations released long after their breakup.) By remarkable coincidence, Jay-Z was born Dec. 4, 1969, when the Beatles’ 13th #1 album, Abbey Road, was sitting at #1. Jay-Z has had more #1 albums than any other American artist in chart history; more than any other African-American artist; and more than any other hip-hop artist. Elvis Presley and Bruce Springsteen are in second place among American artists, with 10 #1 albums each. Magna Carta is Jay-Z’s fourth album to start with sales of 500K or more. It’s his 10th album (and his fifth studio album in a row) to start with sales north of 400K. You read a lot about declining album sales and how it’s not possible to expect albums to sell like they used to, but Jay-Z defies the trends. Jay-Z’s total is especially impressive because it doesn’t count the 1 million digital copies that Samsung made available for free to its phone and tablet users who had downloaded a Jay-Z centric app. “Nothing was actually for sale,” Bill Werde, Billboard’s editorial director, wrote in an open letter to the industry explaining the decision. Magna Carta is the fourth rap or hip-hop album to hold the #1 spot in as many weeks. It follows Yeezus, Wale’s The Gifted and J. Cole’s Born Sinner. This is the first time that four rap albums have held the top spot in succession since December 2004. Jay-Z had an album in that run, too—Collision Course, his collabo with Linkin Park. That album was followed in the top spot by Ludacris’ The Red Light District, 2Pac’s Loyal To The Game and Eminem’s Encore. The sales of the new album brings Jay-Z’s total album sales to 28,976,000, per Nielsen SoundScan. That puts him in third place among rappers, behind Eminem (42,307,000) and 2Pac (29,010,000). So in this coming week, he’ll surpass 2Pac, who was shot to death in September 1996. Rounding out the top five rap album artists since January 1991, per Nielsen SoundScan, are Nelly (21,743,000) and Beastie Boys (20,384,000). Magna Carta also debuts at #1 on Top Digital Albums. It sold 348K digital copies, which is the second biggest one-week tally for a rap album. Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV sold 362K digital copies in its first week in September 2011. Watch The Throne, Jay-Z’s 2011 collabo with West, slips to third place among rap albums. It sold 321K digital copies in its first week in August 2011. In the U.S., Magna Carta had the biggest first week (and biggest single day) for an album in the history of the Spotify service. Magna Carta also debuts at #1 on The Official U.K. Albums chart. It’s Jay-Z’s first #1 album in that country. His previous highest-charting album was Watch The Throne, which hit #3. His previous highest-charting album as a solo artist was The Blueprint III, which reached #4 in 2009. Ciara’s fifth album, Ciara, debuts at #2. This marks a strong recovery from her last album, Basic Instinct, which debuted and peaked at #44 in December 2010. (It got lost in the superstar-laden Christmas traffic. Also, it failed to produce a top 40 hit on the Hot 100.) The new album is Ciara’s fourth album to reach the top three. Her only album to climb higher is Ciara: The Evolution, which reached #1 in December 2006. The first single from the new album, “Body Party,” jumped to #25 on last week’s Hot 100. Another song, “I’m Out” (featuring Nicki Minaj), was the week’s top new entry at #50. Florida Georgia Line’s Here’s To The Good Times holds at #5 for the second week. It holds at #1 on Top Country Albums for the fourth week. It’s the first album by a duo to log four or more weeks at #1 on the country chart since Sugarland’s Love On The Inside, which spent six weeks on top in the summer of 2008. It’s the first debut album to log four or more weeks at #1 on the country chart since Scotty McCreery’s Clear As Day, which spent six weeks on top in 2011. Skylar Grey’s sophomore album, Don’t Look Down, debuts at #8. Grey was known as Holly Brook in 2006 when her debut album, Like Blood, Like Honey, was released. It failed to chart. Grey was featured on two of the 50 best-selling songs of 2011: Dr. Dre’s “I Need A Doctor” (which also featured Eminem) and Diddy-Dirty Money’s “Coming Home.” “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke featuring T.I. + Pharrell holds at #1 on Hot Digital Songs for the seventh week. It sold 384K copies this week, which means it just missed becoming the first song to reach 400K in weekly sales four times. It remains tied with “Somebody That I Used To Know” by Gotye featuring Kimbra as the only two songs in digital history to sell 400K copies three times. Will “Blurred Lines” also hold at #1 for the sixth week on the Hot 100? Count on it. But you’ll find out for sure out later today when we post Chart Watch: Songs. Here’s the low-down on this week’s top 10 albums. The Top Five: Jay-Z’s Magna Carta…Holy Grail debuts at #1 (527K). It’s his 15th top 10 album…Ciara’s Ciara debuts at #2 (58K). It’s her fourth top 10 album…J. Cole’s Born Sinner drops from #1 to #3 in its fourth week (39K). It has been in the top five the entire time… Imagine Dragons’ Night Visions holds at #4 for the second week in its 45th week (32K). This is its 14th week in the top 10…Florida Georgia Line’s Here’s To The Good Times holds at #5 for the second week in its 31st week (31K). This is its seventh week in the top 10. The Second Five: Kanye West’s Yeezus drops from #3 to #6 in its fourth week (29K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time…Wale’s The Gifted drops from #2 to #7 in its third week (28K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time…Skylar Grey’s Don’t Look Down debuts at #8 (24K). This is her first top 10 album…Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories drops from #7 to #9 its eighth week (23K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time…Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ The Heist drops from #8 to #10 in its 40th week (22K). This is its seventh week in the top 10. Three albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Joe’s Double Back: Evolution Of R&B drops from #6 to #20. Bruno Mars’ Unorthodox Jukebox drops from #9 to #11. Blake Shelton’s Based On A True Story… drops from #10 to #14. Pitch Perfect inches up from #13 to #12 in its 38th week. It’s the highest-ranking soundtrack from a theatrically-released movie for the 20th week. Anna Kendrick’s sleeper hit “Cups (Pitch Perfect’s When I’m Gone)” jumped to #10 on last week’s Hot 100. Donell Jones’ seventh studio album, Forever, debuts at #18. Jones, 40, first charted in 1996 with My Heart. He climbed to #3 with 2002’s Life Goes On. Bob Marley & the Wailers’ 1984 compilation Legend drops from #27 to #30 its 276th week on the chart. Legend holds at #1 on Top Catalog Albums. This is its 117th week on top of that chart (in the Nielsen SoundScan era). Lil Wayne tops the 15 million mark in career album sales this week. The rapper first charted as a solo artist in November 1999 with Tha Block Is Hot. He had previously charted with the collective Hot Boy$. Lil Wayne was just 15 when the Hot Boy$ album charted in August 1999. Mindless Behavior’s Mindless Behavior: All Around The World debuts at #1 on Top Music Videos. The music documentary was released theatrically on March 15. The doc follows the R&B/hip-hop boy band as it travels across the U.S. on its first headlining tour. Mindless Behavior has had two top 10 albums on The Billboard 200: #1 Girl and All Around The World. Despicable Me 2 was #1 at the box-office for the second straight weekend. Coming Attractions: Sara Bareilles’ fourth studio album, Blessed Unrest, is expected to be next week’s top new entry. Her last album, Kaleidoscope Heart, debuted at #1 in September 2010 with first-week sales of 90K. Also due: Kidz Bop Kids’ Kidz Bop 24, Avenged Sevenfold’s Hail To The King, Cody Simpson’s Surfer’s Paradise, Ace Hood’s Trials & Tribulations, Matt Nathanson’s Last Of The Great Pretenders and Kevin Gates’ Stranger Than Fiction.

That list Readytojump posted is most top 10 albums. Not the most Number 1's. Billboard counts Collision Course as a #1.
The Best of Both Worlds w/ R Kelly only got as high as #2. I just checked his Discography a few weeks ago so im positive.
---
Eminem just killing the field, and in way fewer albums as well.
Eminem - 42,307,000 2Pac - 29,010,000 Jay Z - 28,976,000 Nelly - 21,743,000 Beastie Boys - 20,384,000

Yep. His second album debut at #3. And With the 13 #1's and one #2 that makes 15.
Great Gatsby doesn't count. And his Debut album got only to #23.

Thanks for helping out with the Top 10 Albums list.
Billboard hardly mentions how many Top 10 albums an artist has anymore.
me thinks Keith Caulfield should spend a little less time on Twitter and more time working on all his Billboard articles. We writes a lot of them.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/3081661/chart-moves-florida-georgia-lines-slow-chart-climb-alexis-spight-hits-no-1Chart Moves: Florida Georgia Line's Slow Chart Climb, Alexis Spight Hits No. 1 By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | July 18, 2013 This week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, Jay Z jumped in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with "Magna Carta Holy Grail," selling 528,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It was the fourth No. 1 in a row that was a rap title, following J. Cole's "Born Sinner," Wale's "The Gifted" and Kanye West's "Yeezus." Outside the top 10 on the Billboard 200 there were a number of movers and shakers, as usual. Let's take a look at some of them… -- Florida Georgia Line, "Here's to the Good Times" (No. 4): The duo reaches a new peak on the chart in its 32nd week as the album rises 5-4. It is the fourth-slowest climb to the top four -- for a country album -- since SoundScan started powering the chart in May 1991. Among country sets, only the soundtrack to "O Brother, Where Are Thou?” (62 weeks), Dixie Chicks' "Wide Open Spaces" (56) and Garth Brooks' "No Fences" (36) have taken longer. -- Chrisette Michele, "Better" (No. 27): A performance on the July 11 edition of "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" helps push a 33% gain for the album, as it jumps 52-27. It sold 9,000 this past week and tallies its first weekly sales increase since debuting five weeks ago. It increased by 30% at chains, 27% at indie stores, 8% at mass merchants and 122% at digital. -- The New Broadway Cast Recording, "Pippin" (No. 70): Following the CD release of the album on July 9, the album nets its largest sales week yet (5,000; up 676%). In turn, it re-enters at No. 70. Over on the Top Cast Albums chart, it jumps back to No. 1 for a second week, having spent its first five weeks on the chart as a digital-only title. It debuted at No. 1 on June 22. -- Ellie Goulding, "Halcyon" (No. 55): The album grabs its third straight weekly sales increase (jumping 125-55), rising by 75% to 6,000 units -- its best frame since the week ending Jan. 13 (7,000). The album's "I Need Your Love," also featured on Calvin Harris’ “18 Months” (re-entry at No. 189, up 80%), continues to grow at radio, rising 15-14 on Hot 100 Airplay. -- Alexis Spight, "L.O.L." (No. 83): Venue sales generated at the Church of God in Christ AIM Convention in Baltimore earlier this month spur a 1,299% gain for the album and its best sales week yet: 4,000. In turn, it re-enters the Billboard 200 at No. 83, and it reaches No. 1 on Gospel Albums for the first time, zipping 28-1 in its 18th chart week. -- Gregory Alan Isakov, "The Weatherman" (No. 102): The singer/songwriter starts at No. 102 on the Billboard 200 also takes a bow at No. 5 on Folk Albums, moving a bit under 4,000 copies. This is the Colorado native's third full-length release and easily claims his best sales week ever. Until this week, he had never sold more than 1,000 copies of a single title in a week. -- John Mayer, "Born and Raised" (No. 153): Residual buzz generated from the singer's "Today Show" performance on July 5 continues to benefit the set, as it climbs with a 14% gain and returns to the chart. Also helping matters is the launch of his tour on July 6, and the start of the promotion campaign for his upcoming studio album.
