They were getting ticket refunds to begin with, but Whitewater only holds about 6k people 🤔

I really will never understand the hype for Eric Church, and a move like this doesn't even surprise me, lol. He's always been pretty mediocre to me, has a lot more misses than hits in his radio singles imo, and I don't even think he's that good live? I saw him open for Miranda Lambert about 12 years ago before he blew up really big and I didn't get the appeal then, and I still don't. Overrated. Just like Jason Aldean, or Garth Brooks. Meh.
Also kinda fun to consider that anecdote and that Miranda just took home EOTY at the ACMs. Now THAT is a good entertainer.

They were getting ticket refunds to begin with, but Whitewater only holds about 6k people 🤔 I've only ever seen one show there (Cody Jinks...also same venue that I think zaclord 🌈 saw Maren Morris a few summers back) as it's about a 45 minute drive south from Austin, but I honestly don't know how they are going to pull this off logistically especially when 18,000+ tickets were sold for the San Antonio show. I'm sure those details are being sorted out, but wow what a mess. And it's not like the venue can't support someone of Eric's stature as Miranda Lambert just performed there last summer, but again it all goes back to how this unfolded to begin with. Anyways, I myself rarely venture down to San Antonio for concerts so therefore wasn't even thinking of going to see Eric there. Plus, I'm not a big fan of venues of that size anymore as I much prefer something on a smaller scale as it provides a more intimate setting. I'm also not the biggest fan of the Whitewater Amphitheater because it's just such a cluster#?*! getting out. Add in the drive back to Austin and the fact that I'm probably going to be drinking some, I then have would have to spend extra money on lodging which isn't necessarily easy to come by in that specific area. It's just not even on my radar anymore as a concert venue I'd venture out to.

And Miranda did three nights, he should maybe at least book for two, I guess they’ll have to go about emailing ticket holders to get some kind of RSVP going.

I agree with everything here about Eric.....and think it all also applies to Miranda, to a slightly lesser extent, her best stuff is better then his (and she has also cancelled her fair share of concerts, although never for a basketball game smh)

No respect for this decision. We’ve gone from having a top entertainer backing out from her role in a movie like Titanic because the delay in shooting conflicts with her tour, to a entertainer who wants to cancel because he wants to watch a basketball game.

Like, I can somewhat see the "once in a lifetime" aspect of this game...but this ain't it. Eric's been low on my list for a while - indulge nailed my reasons, thanks boo - but this is SUCH a bad decision. And the whole "well at least he told the truth" aspect seems so lame, what a low bar.

It's just not even on my radar anymore as a concert venue I'd venture out to. Yeah no clue how they are fitting 18,000 into that venue. I enjoyed seeing Maren there (good memory by the way!) a few years back (right after GIRL came out) but there’s no way Eric at this stage in his career can do a venue that small… I mean, I don’t care at all about the sportsball happening, but as someone who lives in North Carolina, this game is being hailed as like the biggest thing to ever happen in sports. So if Eric is someone who does care about the sportsball, I understand why he cares so much (despite him attending neither school playing). This is one of the biggest rivalries in sport. But they’ve already played each other several times this season so idk why this matters so much more. It’s not even the finals but whatever. I get Eric cares a lot about this, but it is still a huge dick move. I’m also not a huge fan of his and think he’s very overrated but I do love some of his music. He’s just very hit or miss for me and don’t understand the hype.

Yeah living in NC you'd think it's the second coming of Jesus. I *get* the rivalry and I *get* that it's the first time UNC and Duke have met in the final four and I *get* all of that but it's not like UNC has never made it this far? So....meh.
Also, go Duke.

Not defending Eric here but as a huge sports fan it's far more than that. UNC/Duke have never met in a NCAA tourney EVER. Let alone the final 4. And this is Coach K's last season - and would the the last game if UNC wins. Coach K is hands down the most famous college coach in the history of college bball. I totally understand why people would be pissed (and they have every right to be). But I also kind of get it. I think as entertainers they do have an obligation to not do this. But I also think of how many events Eric (and all entertainers) have to miss because of concerts and shows. The fact that he gave a full refund and is offering a free show is showing he isn't just a dick. I know people who paid for travel and hotels could be fucked (though most hotels offer free cancelation up until the day of). And maybe Eric loses a few fans and ticket sales because of this. But I also think sometimes in life you have to do what's best for you and your family even if that makes you look like a jerk to some.

Really didn't need the mansplaining - I live in NC, my mother in law is Duke Medical School alum, I completely understand how big this is, and am aware that Coach K is retiring, etc.
I still think it's a totally crummy thing to do.

That wasn't mansplaining. I was explaining the alternate point of view. And correcting you on saying how not only have they never met in the final 4 but any time in this NCAA tourney. As someone who defends the women of country at pretty much every turn, who coaches women sports and fights for equality in them, I am pretty ticked off that you would use that phrase to me. I wasn't saying you didn't know ANY of that. But since it wasn't said, I went ahead and said it. And I was adding the Coach K retiring part because most of the people on a music forum might not follow college basketball too closely (some even jokingly admitted so, calling it, "sportsball"). That would be like you saying, "Wow, another #1 song for Dierks on this weeks Billboard chart" And me replying, "Yes, #1 on both Billboard AND Mediabase too!" And you telling me that I was mansplaining.

Not one of Eric Church’s best ideas, and I’d be upset had I had tickets, but considering everything he’s done for his fans over his career, I think he gets away with it.
There’s a reason he’s one of the most respected artists in the genre. Had someone like Aldean or Kane Brown did this I get the feeling there’d be a ton of uproar from other artists. Not really the case here aside from a few slight comments

I think people who are pissed at him have every right to be, but I also think the guy has the right to be afforded a life and if he's doing this once after more than a decade on the road, then who cares.

I'm late as hell to the convo but the Eric Church cancelling shows to go to a sporting event has me puzzled lol
Like...I get it, work/life balance. We all take time off work to go do things we want to do so I'm definitely not faulting him for that part.. BUT.. it is different in his position. It's not like anyone can come in and replace him, at least not truly. It won't be a typical day at the office, not even a sucky day at the office, it just simply won't work lol. Everyone is coming to see him... mostly everyone. Maybe plan ahead with your label/touring team and be like yo can't do a show on these dates/weekends cuz I might have other plans.
Having the show scheduled, tickets long on sale, being or close to being sold out and THEN saying 'I cancel cuz I wanna go to a sporting event" ........ yeah, NO, not gonna go over big.
I don't fault him for his decision. Just in how he and his team handled it.

Kelsea Ballerini has COVID according to Billboard. She's still hosting and performing at the CMT Awards tonight (according to her IG). Virtually of course. That'll be interesting to see how that goes. She claims she's feeling better though, which is the most important thing.
