That Ashley Judd interview was painful to watch, but I completely understand her (and the whole family's) reasoning for wanting to speak early to get ahead of the tabloid gossip. The details that she shared made a sad story even sadder. I can't imagine how Ashley is feeling right now. My heart breaks for her.

A beautiful introduction by Ashley Judd, and performances from Wynonna, alongside Brandi Carlile, Little Big Town and more, from tonight’s tribute Naomi Judd: A River of Time Celebration on CMT:

Happy 70th birthday George Strait! I was hoping we would get a surprise album drop at midnight tonight but not to be. He has been in the studio recording recently so hopefully new music by the end of the year.

Happy 70th birthday to George Strait today. Let us salute him by showcasing his 70th top ten, I Hate Everything. That was the only new song on the double CD, 50 Number Ones. Released in June of 2004, it not only became Strait's 70th top ten, but his 39th chart topper (in Billboard, anyway) in October.

The Keith Urban and Brooks & Dunn tunes were some of the first country songs I really loved. The ‘Suds In The Bucket’ music video is super memorable as well. What a cool chart to look back at!

^ Wow at that Wallen award. This sums it up: Look I still am not over what he did, but those awards are pretty specific and honestly he's earned that one. There's some factors I don't like that went into him getting it (his support rising after the incident for example), but his album's continued dominance is historical which is basically what that award is for. As for the no people of color, looking at the criteria of all the other awards I also don't truly see any "snubs". That points to the bigger issue of there being no viable winners of color, but that's what they had to work with this year. Hopefully next year we can see someone winning. Support has to come from other aspects of the industry first before they're up for awards basically.

The Service and Lifting Lives ones seem prime areas to recognize people doing work to broaden the depth of artists in country music.

The Service and Lifting Lives ones seem prime areas to recognize people doing work to broaden the depth of artists in country music. Jordan said he looked the eligibility of the awards before making the statement. The Service award is (to be blunt) a self-approval award as it celebrates the recipient's work towards ACM organization. The Lifting Lifes Award mostly concerns charity fundings so it could go many ways. Plus giving awards to COVID-19 relief fund-raisers makes the most sense.

And I think with those criteria there was room to award one or more non-white individuals.

I get the vitriol towards Morgan Wallen, but I also like... think it's become more about the controversy of it all than the man himself and what he did. Like if I were in a coma the past couple years and woke up today and read some of the comments about him, I'd think Wallen had committed a crime like the gunman in Buffalo, NY that shot up a largely black community's only grocery store or something. He's ignorant for sure and I've personally soured on him a lot since the incident ( look @ my listening stats on Last.fm for him in 2021 i.e.), but I think over-analyzing every little thing that pertains to him has gotten stale. He got caught saying the N-word on camera once, apologized, and he/his team/his label sent some fat checks to black groups, and he's being given an honor that basically just stems from his record-breaking album performance #s as Kanenrá:ke specified above (and lbr the controversy may have kept his name in the headlines and spurred some extra sales/streams, but the album was 100% on track to be a huge juggernaut already anyway even if he had never been "cancelled" -- we don't know how different the response would've been w/ zero controversy, but in that scenario he would've just had even more major radio success because he wouldn't have stalled out with "7 Summers" and had time to get another 1 or 2 hits off the double album up the country charts if there'd been no temporary radio ban). Jimmie Allen publicly reached out to help Morgan Wallen, and in the past few months performed with him on stage and also publicly congratulated Wallen on his ACM Album of the Year win on IG when it happened, so he's seeing a different side than the people crying 'racist' every time Wallen is acknowledged for having fans streaming his music. I would LOVE to see black people awarded and given more recognition in all aspects of the country music industry, but I think it's doing a disservice to the movement to just keep the focus on Morgan Wallen. And essentially saying "some black person" should've won x, y, or z award without being able to provide specifics on who and what for, that's not exactly a ringing endorsement that they got it wrong. And idk about anyone else but all those white people who did win these off-kilter ACM Honors for charitable causes or w/e are nobodies to me too. They just seem rather irrelevant from a music consumer standpoint anyway.
