This is very Dierks Bentley-esque. I like it, but I definitely don't love it the way I do "Cab" upon first listen. It's a decent song, but a little too loud and shouty in the vocal delivery that takes me out of fully enjoying it. I'm a bit disappointed because the hook is so delightfully clever, but the surrounding song doesn't quite live up to it imo.

I'm reading the latest issue of country aircheck and they have a list of the most played artist on country radio for 2023. So Lainey was the most played female of 2023 obviously but yall know who was 2nd?? Freaking Katelyn Brown lol. 2or 3 years ago we had a good handful of ladies getting airplay but now we are just back to 1 or 2.

Freaking Katelyn Brown lol. 2or 3 years ago we had a good handful of ladies getting airplay but now we are just back to 1 or 2. Mentioned this in another thread, but I am currently at least a bit hopeful heading into 2024 though that we're going to see an improvement over the past couple years. There's currently 6 female songs (Lainey Wilson, Megan Moroney, Carrie Underwood, Ashley Cooke, Carly Pearce, and Gabby Barrett) in the top 20-30 range of the chart that are all looking like they're continuing to gain traction, plus a few features that are doing well ("I Remember Everything" and "Can't Break Up Now"). If even like 2-3 of those hit the top of the charts it would be an improvement over last year. 🙏 And that's just going off what's on the charts right now. We know Kelsea Ballerini will drop a new lead single at some point this year. Something new from Miranda Lambert is likely as well. Hailey Whitters is someone I see as having dark horse hit potential, though it'll probably take all year. Country radio always finds a way to fuck shit up and slash my hopes and expectations, but I'm feeling more optimistic rn than last year.

Let us salute Jo-el Sonnier's biggest hit, No More One More Time from 1988. It peaked at #7 in May of that year. The follow up, Tear-Stained Letter did nearly as well, becoming his second and final top ten at #9. R.I.P.: BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING MAY 28, 1988: 1. I like Elle King well enough, but man this is not a good look for her at all and kind of embarrassing, (not helping was it being a tribute to Dolly Parton and in the Opry)

Not a good look for her at all. But ironic that the guys literally go on stage hammered all the time, but when a woman does it, there’s such backlash.
Hoping the issue is more of where it took place and the occasion. Which I agree with, she should’ve been a little bit more respectable.

Wasn’t Elle King also pretty sloppy during the New Year’s Eve thing? This isn’t specifically directed at her because it’s a big problem across the industry, more so with the men, but it’s pretty irritating to consistently see/hear about artists who are habitually drunk during performances and/or concerts. It’s so disrespectful to the audience and everyone else involved, and frankly, it makes you look like a loser.

Yeah, Elle King definitely has... a problem with this. It's not the first time, but it being at the Opry and during a Dolly Parton tribute show couldn't have made the optics for this worse. 🥴
She'll definitely face worse backlash and media attention for this vs. when male singers do shit like this though as others have mentioned. Lots of male country legends today are remembered fondly despite being sloppy drunkards (i.e. George Jones, Johnny Cash), and I believe Morgan Wallen has done something to this affect at some point, but Elle King isn't exactly a big country star so I don't see this going well for her. Yikes on trikes. 😬
Shame because she's a solid artist and honestly put out one of my top 5 fave country records last year. I hope she gets some help because she clearly needs it.

She did this when i saw her in concert last year too. Not sure if there were kids in the audience at the Opry or NYE but it's disappointing to see this repeatedly happen. When I saw her there were a lot of kids.

More interesting that it's both Elle King and Chris Young who made the news.

For me it is a matter of professionalism. We can't show up drunk to our jobs, so neither should singers. They are working, after all. I get that it is less strict; sure, have a shot or a drink or two, and it's fun when an artist does a shot or cracks a beer on stage. But don't get to the point where you're so drunk you're unable to (literally) perform your job duties and are apt to let anything pop out of your mouth.
And obviously it does show a lack of respect for Dolly, the Opry, and the fans who showed up to support them and you. It is just a really bad look.

Not one bit. The video clearly shows Chris’s actions were not aggressive in the least, and he immediately backed away with his hands up after he was pushed by men who were not clearly identifiable law enforcement officers. I imagine charges will drop with this video out there especially since it was his ID photographed and he absolutely has a right to know why. The only assault was an “officer” assaulting Chris Young in what looks like a power trip case to me. Thank god for surveillance cameras!
