For some reason I can't get into charts pre 1955. I agree. I almost purchased Joel Whitburn's latest book which contains every Best Seller chart from the 1950s. I thought better of it when I realized that with very few exceptions (e.g. "Song From Moulin Rouge" by Percy Faith) I would not know any of the songs prior to 1955.

Wasn't Elvis' count 18, when Whitburn counted "Don't Be Cruel" and "Hound Dog" as separate No. 1s? (I haven't looked at his pre-Hot 100 peaks on individual charts in a while, though).
Nonetheless, since Billboard just focuses on the Hot 100 now in terms of "all time," that's what we have. And it includes a note about Presley, as it should, with all the singles success he had from 1956-58.
Oh my at the gain for "Blurred Lines." And just two 1m+ updates.

Wasn't Elvis' count 18, when Whitburn counted "Don't Be Cruel" and "Hound Dog" as separate No. 1s? Yes Cool-From the Elvis.com.au site Home | Top Elvis Presley News: delivered by email News Feed SMS Did Billboard Remove Elvis Presley's No. 1 Hits in 2008 : Not 2011 ? By: David Troedson Source: Elvis Australia November 23, 2011 - 7:27:09 PM Elvis Articles, By David Troedson Email this article Did Billboard in fact remove all 11 of Elvis Presley's number one hits in July 2008 and we have only just found out in November 2011? Perhaps it does not matter when they did it, we believe we have proven they did it, but the following suggests they did in fact do so in 2008. Was this a response to Elvis fans and even EPE disputing the matter and Billboard deciding to rid themselves of any debate? You can decide for yourself ... April 2008 : Billboard Reduce Elvis' No. 1 Hits From 18 to 17 The number of No. 1 hits Elvis Presley had in the US became a topic of discussion in April 2008 in several news articles when it was announced by Billboard magazine in that month that Mariah Carey and Madonna had surpassed Elvis Presley in the number of 'Number 1' and 'Top Ten' hits, with 18 and 37 hits respectively. Elvis fans were angry and much was said ... You can read our article from 2008 here This was Disputed by EPE Both of these claims were disputed by music historian Joel Whitburn and Elvis Presley Enterprises and many Elvis Presley Fan Clubs. Whitburn lists Elvis as having 18 number 1 hits (placing him in a tie with Mariah Carey at that time) and 38 top ten hits (one more than Madonna at that time). EPE claimed Elvis had 40 top ten hits. The differences depend on whether a double-sided hit single is counted as one hit single, or two hit songs. Billboards Geoff Mayfield : 'Billboard's charts department and the magazine's trivia expert, Fred Bronson, consider those two songs comprise but one single, and thus a singular No. 1 shared by the two songs'. Until 2008 the Double Sided Single Hound Dog / Don't Be Cruel was counted as two No. 1 Hits Before the age of Compact Discs and digital music downloads, singles were released on vinyl 45 RPM records, with one song on each side (an A-side and a B-side or flip side). Both songs of many Elvis singles became hits and were listed on the charts. Hound Dog / Don't Be Cruel was a double sided hit single that topped the Billboard Sales chart for 11 weeks in 1956. At the time, Hound Dog was listed as the number 1 A-side for the first 5 weeks, and Don't Be Cruel was listed as the number 1 A-side for the last 6 weeks. November 2011 : Billboard Remove another 10 No. 1 Hits from Elvis Tally : or Do They? On November 04, 2011, Billboard themselves published a story with the headline, 'Could Rihanna Be Bigger Than the Beatles on the Billboard Hot 100?' which announced that 'With the ascension of Love, Rihanna becomes just the seventh artist to notch at least 11 Hot 100 No. 1s, joining the Beatles (20), Mariah Carey (18), Michael Jackson (13), Madonna (12), the Supremes (12) and Whitney Houston (11). *** No longer any mention of Elvis Presley *** And the news went out ... but was this old news? Did Billboard in fact remove these number one hits in July 2008? And we have only just found out via the above mentioned announcement? It seems they may have going by their article published in July 2008 When Billboard celebrated the 50th anniversary Hot 100 Chart on their website [Image and text below] they included text explaining that Elvis was not on the chart and explained why. Most No. 1s By Artist (All-Time) [See image below] 'The all-time list from the chart's first 50 years, August 1958 through July 2008, plus decade-by-decade recaps of the artists with the most Hot 100 No. 1 hits'. Note: Elvis Presley isn't on this list because most of his hits predate the Hot 100 (read more .. below). [You may notice that Elvis Presley isn't on this all-time list of Most No 1s By Artist. That isn't an oversight. Many of Presley's biggest hit singles came out before the Hot 100 started in August of 1958. While he's had seven No. 1s on the Hot 100, a number of his most notable smashes like Don't Be Cruel, Love Me Tender and All Shook Up were all released before the Hot 100 existed. Indeed, they were all still No. 1 pop hits - they just weren't No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100.] And displayed the following chart ... So it seems they removed Elvis three years ago. Billboard Hot 100 Chart 50th Anniversary : July 2008. From our original article : Billboard Change Rules and Cheats Elvis of Ten [10] more No. 1 Hits We originally added this image and text so as to be balanced in our reporting showing Billboard had somewhere acknowledged Elvis not being on the chart, however in our proof reading we noticed it was July 2008 and put two and two together as they say, or we think we have.

"Treasure" gained 1.455m on the four main published-panel charts it's on, but the Quick-Cut gain was less than 1m? The Quick-Cut info is for all stations, but still.

I don't want you to be disappointed, but it won't make it this week. why? The only song falling above it fast enough is "Mirrors" and "Best Song Ever" will open at either #2 or #3. Watch it stay at #11. Or slip a spot to #12? I'm positive it will reach top ten like "Try" and won't end up like "Girl On Fire" spending enumerable weeks in the top 10 peaking at #11.

I don't think BSE is going to debut that high. Top ten, yes, but probably around 4-6. Digital sales won't be ridiculously high, maybe around 250-275k (placing it confortably at #2 behind Robin), and streaming is iffy. Yes, it broke records on VEVO/YouTube, but wasn't the US viewing percentage shockingly low? I'll say #3 in streaming, behind Miley & Robin. It might pass Robin if the US viewing percentage increased over the week. Airplay is only decent for first week totals. Not sure where it will land there. Upper 50s? I can't see it passing up the massive "Get Lucky," "Radioactive," or "We Can't Stop," so I'll say #5. Possibly #4 if it debuts on the higher end of sales in my estimates and is able to nudge out "Get Lucky."
ETA: "Baby I," the other hyped release of the week, will probably bow in the lower 20s.

HUGE DEBUT FOR 'BEST SONG EVER' Over on the Digital Songs chart, we have a new No. 1: One Direction's "Best Song Ever" crashes in with 322,000 downloads sold. It's the biggest debut for a song since Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble" bowed at No. 1 on Oct. 27, 2012, with 416,000. "Best Song Ever" isn’t One Direction’s largest sales week, however. The group bulldozed through 341,000 copies of its "Live While We're Young" when it started at No. 1 on the Oct. 20, 2012, Digital Songs chart. "Best Song Ever" was written for One Direction's upcoming documentary film "This Is Us," and it doubles as the lead single from the group's forthcoming third studio album. One Direction bumps last week's chart-topper, Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," down to No. 2 with 312,000 (down 9%). Miley Cyrus' "We Can't Stop" also falls a slot to No. 3 with 191,000 (down 8%) while Jay Z's "Holy Grail" (featuring Timberlake) is steady at No. 4 with 160,000 (down 3%). Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" descends two notches to No. 5 with 159,000 (down 8%), while Ariana Grande's "Baby I" debuts at No. 6 with 141,000. It follows "The Way," featuring Mac Miller, which launched at No. 6 earlier this year with 219,000. Grande is the only woman to debut two singles in the top 10 of the Digital Songs chart this year. Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise" falls 5-7 ( 119,000; down 14%); Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," featuring Pharrell Williams, dips 6-8 ( 114,000; down 14%); and Bruno Mars' "Treasure" moves 8-9 ( 110,000; down 6%). Closing out the top 10 is Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Same Love," featuring Mary Lambert, slipping one rung to No. 10 with 105,000 (down 6%). 1. "Best Song Ever" - 322k 2. "Blurred Lines" - 312k 3. "We Can't Stop" - 191k 4. "Holy Grail" - 160k 5. "Radioactive" - 159k 6. "Baby I" - 141k 7. "Cruise" - 119k 8. "Get Lucky" - 114k 9. "Treasure" - 110k 10. "Same Love" - 105k It will sell around 350k this week and the album bonus will be minimum 75k and the performance bonus should be at least 50k so maybe 520k at the most Blurred Lines - 312,000 (sic) (sic) (sic) Ok, so "Baby I" outsold my expectations by 10-15k. I say a... #17? "Blurred Lines" is obviously #1 "We Can't Stop" will remain #2 I guess "Radioactive" will remain at #3 "Best Song Ever" may debut at #4-6 "Get Lucky" will be either #4 or #5 "Treasure" will be around #5 or #6 "Cruise", "Holy Grail" and "Can't Hold Us" will be #7, #8, #9. "Love Somebody" at #10 maybe?

I know many people are checking the top for Robin's record breaking peak, but also, Anna Kendrick breaks up the sausagefest that is the Mediabase top 10. Also, CHU needs to GTFO. It's overstaying its welcome and preventing Same Love from going top 10!

Well it looks like one record "Blurred Lines" will not break is Flo Rida's 13 weeks at #1 on the Digital Songs chart. It may return to #1 next week, but I can't see it spending 5 more weeks at #1.

For some reason I can't get into charts pre 1955. That's actually my favorite era. Everybody tells me I was born 30 years too late. Wasn't Elvis' count 18, when Whitburn counted "Don't Be Cruel" and "Hound Dog" as separate No. 1s? (I haven't looked at his pre-Hot 100 peaks on individual charts in a while, though). Yeah, it's kind of a shame that Billboard changed it's "Top 100" methodology in 1957, because they might still count it in their official tallies. The Billboard Top 100 debuted at the end of 1955, and it was the first airplay-sales-jukebox combo chart. It ran until the debut of the Hot 100, HOWEVER, in mid-1957, they took out the airplay and jukebox component and just made it a singles sales chart -- different from Best Sellers in Stores because it did not combine two hit sides of a single into one listing. At any rate, it should be noted that when the Top 100 was still a sales-airplay-jukebox combo, Elvis's "Hound Dog" and "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" only peaked at #2 on that chart. It's quite possible, perhaps even likely, that those songs would have also peaked at #2 if the Hot 100 had existed at that time.

if any sing besides 1D enters it will be same love Lol... I can foresee another failed prediction. popstop - agree, but it should not leave the top 10 before "Cruise". If that happens I'll cut a bitch. "Can't Hold Us" is not even the same league with that thing... so poor lil "Same Love" must wait til its airplay or streaming picks up and it'll be considered an airplay-fueled song. Such a shame after two songs with incredible digital success.

One Direction Blasts Onto Hot 100 at No. 2, Robin Thicke Still No. 1Robin Thicke posts an eighth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Blurred Lines" (featuring T.I. and Pharrell). Meanwhile, One Direction's "Best Song Ever" blasts onto the chart at No. 2, aptly marking the boy band's best chart rank ever. "Lines" continues to lead thanks, in part, to notable airplay that remains on the rise. The song wins the Hot 100's top Airplay Gainer award for a record-extending ninth week (all in a row). Seven songs had previously racked seven weeks (consecutive or not) of claiming the nod dating to its 1985 start. "Lines" leads Radio Songs for a fourth week, gaining by 5% to 207.4 million all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS. Dating to the chart's December 1990 bow, the song has logged the second-highest weekly audience: 212.2 million, "We Belong Together," Mariah Carey (July 9, 2005) 207.4 million, "Blurred Lines," Robin Thicke (featuring T.I. + Pharrell) (Aug. 10, 2013) 196.3 million, "Irreplaceable," Beyonce (Jan. 20, 2007) 192.4 million, "No One," Alicia Keys (Dec. 22, 2007) 189.6 million, "Let Me Love You," Mario (Feb. 5, 2005) Dethroned by One Direction's new "Song," "Lines" drops 1-2 on Digital Songs after spending eight weeks on top. It sold 312,000 downloads (down 8%) in the Nielsen SoundScan tracking week. Still, "Lines" posts a fourth week atop the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart (1.9 million U.S. streams, down 28%, according to BDS). It dips 2-3 on Streaming Songs (6.9 million, down less that 1%), while tallying an eighth week at No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and an 11th frame atop R&B Songs. "Lines" maintains its lead on the Hot 100 – extending its mark for the longest command this year – despite a monstrous challenge from One Direction's "Song." "Lines" leads by a comfortable margin, however, registering 35% more overall points than the chart's new runner-up. ("Lines" loses just 2% of its total from last week.) "Song" becomes One Direction's second Digital Songs No. 1, starting with 322,000 downloads sold, the biggest debut for a title this year. It's the best sum since Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble." began with 416,000 (Oct. 27, 2012). "Song" grants One Direction its second-largest sales week; "Live While We're Young" sold 341,000 when it launched at No. 1 on the Oct. 20, 2012, Digital Songs chart. "Song" roars onto Streaming Songs at No. 2 with 7.9 million U.S. streams in its first full week (following its July 22 posting). Of those plays, 94% stem from VEVO on YouTube. The track has yet to reach Radio Songs, although it increases by 52% to 11 million in audience, fueled by a 40-32 vault on the mainstream top 40-based Pop Songs airplay chart. Upon its debut at No. 2, "Song," which was written for 1D's upcoming documentary "This Is Us" and serves as the lead single from the group's forthcoming third studio album, becomes One Direction's highest-charting Hot 100 hit. It tops the No. 3 peak of "Young" and the No. 4 peak of the act's debut hit "What Makes You Beautiful" last year. After jumping 3-2 last week, Miley Cyrus' "We Can't Stop" retreats 2-3 on the Hot 100 (with a 9% points loss). Still, "Stop" boasts a sixth week atop Streaming Songs (8.9 million, down 13%). It slips 2-3 on Digital Songs (191,000, down 8%) but advances 34-28 on Radio Songs (42 million, up 12%). Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" diffuses 3-4 on the Hot 100, while topping Hot Rock Songs for a 19th week. It continues to gain in airplay, bulleting for a second week at No. 3 on Radio Songs (122 million, up 2%). Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" (featuring Pharrell) descends 4-5 on the Hot 100 after peaking at No. 2 for five weeks. The track spends a second week at No. 2 on Radio Songs (137 million, down 4%) and dominates Dance/Electronic Songs for a record-extending 11th week (dating to the survey's inception earlier this year). Bruno Mars' "Treasure" regresses 5-6 on the Hot 100, although it gains by 11% to 97 million in audience. It bullets for a third week at No. 6 on Radio Songs. Jay Z's "Holy Grail" (featuring Justin Timberlake) rises 8-7 in its third week on the Hot 100. Airplay powers the move, as it pushes 40-33 on Radio Songs (37 million, up 22%). It holds at No. 4 on Digital Songs (160,000, down 3%) and falls 8-10 on Streaming Songs (2.9 million, down 15%). The track takes over atop Rap Songs, where it lifts 2-1. Anna Kendrick's "Cups (Pitch Perfect's When I'm Gone)" rises 9-8 on the Hot 100, enhanced by its 12-11 push on Radio Songs (72 million, up 10%). Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Can't Hold Us" (featuring Ray Dalton) drops 6-9 on the Hot 100 after spending five weeks at No. 1. It cedes the Rap Songs summit to Jay Z's "Grail" after 14 weeks at No. 1. Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise" (featuring Nelly) rounds out the Hot 100's top 10 (7-10), while rewriting history on Hot Country Songs. It leads the latter list for a 22nd week, passing four other titles for the longest stay at No. 1 since the ranking launched in 1944.
