^That last one is supposed to be Hot 100 Airplay, yes?
At least "Iris" got a top 10 Hot 100 peak, even if it doesn't reflect its large airplay success.

10 11 Cruel Summer - Ace Of Base
I'm still surprised this went top 10. It doesn't add anything to the Bananarama version.

How rare is it that TWO pop divas release highly anticipated FIRST singles on the same day? :O Ke$ha and Rihanna last year? Same week, but not same day. "Die Young" was released two days before "Diamonds." Technically, "Roar" was released two days before "Applause," though. Same iTunes release date, though. A few hours apart. Unless... 2011 Avril + Britney Ah, good times. The ridiculous stan wars were lovely and made absolutely zero sense! I was so hoping "Rock & Roll" would be released today just to mess with everyone. Avril is still slated for the 27th, though. Maybe Britney or Beyoncé will release that same day as well and are just keeping it very secret.

Erin- keep in mind that "Cruel Summer" did benefit somewhat from the lack of big radio hits not charting n the Hot 100 (that was the peak time for that). Its individual peaks on Hot 100 Airplay and Singles Sales were 40 and 10, respectively.

I find it weird "Cruel Summer" was a pop radio flop, barely scrapping the top 20, but I guess by 1998 they were almost irrelevant on CHR, oh how pop radio is so fickle. Then they were so huge just 4 years ago.

So I guess we're waiting on Katy Perry, Drake, Avicii and Lady Gaga to work their way up the airplay chart to challenge BL.

Just look at the deeper top 15 Airplay chart from 15 years ago:
1) Iris not released 5) Torn not released 7) Just the Two of Us not released yet 8) The Way not released 9) Uninvited not released 10) Real World not released 11) To Love You More not released 12) Closing Time not released 13) One Week not released yet 14) I'll Be not released yet 16) Are You That Somebody not released 17) Ghetto Superstar only a vinyl 12 inch 18) Time of Your Life not released 20) I'll Never Break Your Heart not released
... and that's just the top 20 from BDS!!
No wonder "Cruel Summer" was a "Top 10 Hot 100 smash"!!

I have a feeling "Roar" will be the next airplay #1 in about 7 weeks. By then "Blurred Lines" should have dropped to 170-180 in AI.

"Uninvited" and "Are You That Somebody" should have been released as they weren't on any parent albums, just movie soundtracks.

Must have had a ton of HAC/AC airplay, I'm guessing.

Well, "To Love You More" spent 8 weeks at #1 on AC but only #21 on Hot AC.

SO THAT'S WHY THEY NEED THE GOLD TRUCK: If you had an inkling that Katy Perry's "Roar" was going to be kind of a big deal, you were not wrong. The Pop diva's new Capitol single, which dropped yesterday, could well have the single biggest debut and sales week of 2013. Our sales geeks have her challenging and probably besting Robin Thicke's biggest week (424k). Stay tuned for updates all week. (8/13p)

I think the earlier version of this mentioned 500k, but HITS removed it.

Roar will probably be number one and applause will probably be top 3, gaga is more of a top 10 artist anyway (11 straight) and katy is used to number one (this being her 8th)

I just can't see "Roar" hitting #1 down the road. I think it'll burn fast.
"Applause" will probably burn faster, but still.

Well someone will 'eventually' hit #1 once Blurred Lines start to fall. It's inevitable.

Maroon 5 is killing it. This album contained the biggest radio hits of their career. Four top 3s in radio from one album, fifth radio top 3 in a row! Love Somebody coming for that #2 spot!

And now it's time once again for a look back at the Billboard Top 10 singles for exactly 55, 50, 45, and 40 years ago this week.
Before the Beatles and the British Invasion of the 1960's, only a small handful of foreign artists and songs managed to hit #1 on the Hot 100. The first one of these artists, an Italian singer named Domenico Modugno, topped the chart the week of August 18, 1958 with the Italian song "Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu," or as it became more commonly known in English, "Volare." The week before it had made a tremendous leap to #2 after entering the Hot 100 the week before at #54, so it wasn't any great surprise when it moved to #1 a week later; becoming the second song to top the new Hot 100 chart.
August 18, 1958 (for week ending August 24)

Cruel Summer flew up the charts to #10, then flew off the charts just as fast. It was barely a hit. It's only a hit cuz it went top 10.

I'd honestly put Beautiful Life was a much much bigger overall hit than Cruel Summer.
