How is there no thread for this, Michael Jackson's 8th studio album? Release Date: November 26, 1991 Worldwide Sales Estimate: 35 million Singles: 1. Black Or White 2. Remember The Time 3. In The Closet 4. Jam 5. Who Is It 6. Heal The World 7. Give In To Me 8. Will You Be There 9. Gone Too Soon My favorite Michael Jackson album, and it is what I regard as his most creative and universal album. A handful of the outtakes/demos from this period are also amazing, namely Someone Put Your Hand Out, If You Don't Love Me and She Got It. It is also his second best selling album after Thriller.

The album would have been perfect for me if "Gone Too Soon" and "Heal the World" didn't exist... and if that excessively long intro to "Will You Be There" was cut.

I definitely know what you mean, they do seem a bit sappy for the album. While I think it's his best album, I don't think it's perfect.

Remember The Time, In The Closet, and Can't Let Her Get Away are my favorites from the album.

I always thought Dangerous was too fucking long, and I still do. The stretch from "Black or White" through "Will You Be There" is incredible though.

But it totally screws up the mood of the album. The album is essentially an album for the clubs and those songs are just random ass all hell.

I agree that the album is too long. I could definitely do without "Heal The World," "Keep The Faith," and "Gone Too Soon". Even if it was narrowed down to the best 9-10 tracks, it still wouldn't have been nearly as strong as its three predecessors, but those were all borderline flawless pop albums. Glad someone mentioned "Someone Put Your Hand Out" by the way. My favorite ballad from this project, despite not making the album. It's much more R&B than the ballads that did make the album.

This album was a creative masterpiece. The production, the melodies and his vocals were all divine. His voice and producing abilities are really underrated; one listen to "Who Is It" and you can see what a musical genius he was. Who else could make a song from beat-boxing! It's a shame the accusations came out halfway through the era, but what an amazing era it was even with that! I can't even imagine what would have happened without that happening, the tour would have continued and he probably would have released every song as a single haha.

For me, it's almost on par with Bad and below Thriller and Off The Wall, but overall I still enjoyed this album. Teddy Riley did a great job with the uptempos.
It was all downhill from here, though.

Scream, They Don't Care About Us, Stranger In Moscow (possibly THE best song he ever did, IMO), This Time Around, Earth Song, D.S, Money, You Are Not Alone, Tabloid Junkie, 2Bad, are all amazing. It's easily his most personal album, and my second favorite.

This might be my favourite album of his. I find myself listening to this one more than his others these days.
My top 5 songs would be:
1. Dangerous 2. Can't Let Her Get Away 3. Black Or White 4. Remember The Time 5. In The Closet I do agree that some of the ballads kill the mood of the album and that it is a tad long. But overall, I give it an A.
Even though it got good reviews initially, I find it surprising when people act like this was his first bad album, and this was the beginning of the end. In the Rolling Stone tribute issue following his death, they said that Bad was his last "truly great record". I guess his image around his time was making people think differently about his music?
I recommend the Dangerous: The Short Films DVD for those who do not have it yet. It's really good.

HIStory has some good songs, but angry paranoid Michael gets tiresome after a while.

I quite enjoy it. Well, I hate "Gone Too Soon" and how sappy and limp it is (I can at least tolerate "HTW" despite this and to a lesser extent, "KTF"). Also, 3 ballads in a row do not need to be sequenced right next to each other.
Still, there's 4 album cuts from it that are pretty good.
I like it more than Bad but not as much as OTW and Thriller.

My favorite Michael Jackson album, easily. As it's been said before, the stretch from BLACK OR WHITE to GIVE IN TO ME is flawless. I don't get why the WYBT intro is so long, but I like keep the faith and DANGEROUS at the end.
The cover artwork is his best, easily.

Aside from Off The Wall, this is my most listened to Michael album. That's not to say it's without it's flaws, because it most definitely has them. Firstly, all of the uptempos rock. I love angry, aggressive, paranoid Michael. And I love the crunchy production on this album. "Who Is It" is one of my favorite MJ songs ever, "In The Closet" as well. "Remember The Time" is still so smooth and those damn adlibs are equally hilarious and iconic. "Black or White" still puts me in a good mood. "Give In To Me" is beyond epic. And even the lesser album tracks go hard ("She Drives Me Wild," "Can't Let Her Get Away," "Why You Wanna Trip On Me," "Dangerous"). I didn't like "Jam" on it's release and I still question it as an album opener, but time has been very kind to it for me, I can't help but rock out to the chorus.
Now for the bad. Those ballads, ugh. Out and out sap. "Heal The World," NO. "Gone Too Soon." NO. "Will You Be There" is definitely the most tolerable, but I never want to hear it. And "Keep The Faith" has some of the worst production on a Michael song EVER. Just cheap and cheesy.

I agree with the person who said Will You Be There could have been shorter. It always puts a smile on my face when he says "Yeah!" in the middle of that song. My other faves are Can't Let Her Get Away and She's Got The Look.

I consider this MJ's best work. For me it exemplifies everything that he stood for as an artist. It is also my personal favorite album of all time. I appreciate the ballads on this album and over time have grown to love some of the more cheesy moments ("Heal The World" and "Gone Too Soon" especially, both of which are sung beautifully and feel timeless). For me it is the message behind these songs that is the most important.
But the albums biggest strength is those awesome up-tempos. "Who Is It" is a masterpiece, and the video directed by David Fincher still looks great today (this album may be his best video era). "Black Or White" is a stone-cold classic as is "Remember The Time." "In The Closet" is just sexy fun (the video is a hoot) and "Give In To Me" is so underrated. "Will You Be There" is transcendent and also doesn't get the due it deserves in his catalogue. "Jam" is well, a jam and while slightly repetitive, I have always been fond of "Why You Wanna Trip On Me."
I think he accomplished exactly what he needed to with this album, proving that he didn't need Quincy to be successful. This album took him out of the 80's and planted him firmly in the 90's. It's a shame that his fortunes took a turn for the worse during the last part of the albums campaign in 1993 but it is what it is.

I'd say this is my favorite MJ album, but I know part of that is because of when it was released. I was in my "musical prime" and very possessive of music from the 89 to 98. I love his previous albums, too, I'm just more personally attached to this one. I also am attached to HIStory, but that's spottier for me.
Love the artwork and the vibe of the majority of the album. The ballads, while I don't love them all, do give the album some softness/fragility.
Jam, In The Closet, Give In To Me, Who Is It and Will You Be There are probably my favorite tracks. Black or White is great, but I'm pretty burned on it.

Happy 30th birthday Dangerous. My favorite album by anyone, period.
Also, it re-entered the Billboard 200 this week at No. 84, its highest placement since 1993:

I loved “Dangerous” at the time. However I remember thinking it was to long. Looking back it wasn’t that it was 14 tracks but a lot of them were 5+ minutes long. I know that was a thing in the late 80’s into the 90’s but it stunk when you were making a mixed tape. Lol. Some of the uptempo tracks sound very similar but I think if they were edited down it wouldn’t have been so noticeable. Favorite tracks are “In The Closet, Remember The Time and Black Or White”. “Why You Wanna Trip On Me” was another favorite and I liked She Drives Me Wild” at the time too. I got used to “Heal The World and I kind of liked Got To Be There” as well. I don’t hate any songs I guess though I don’t think I listened to “Gone To Soon” more than a few times. The track lengths were just to long that it made the album feel drawn out in my opinion.
