I think Billboard still being super conservative. Katy will cross that 500k mark. and ouch for Gaga. How come she's only doing 200-225k? Her BTW opening numbers were impressive! now it's doing worse than Womanizer or Touch My Body?? It's selling around the same as Ariana, Miley and Demi's lead singles. Girl, you are tew much.

"The Way" sold over 200k in its debut week, right? well, Gaga will have a similar debut to Ariana Grande.

The thing that Gaga does have going for her is that she is still planning on premiering her video next week, followed by her VMA performance the following weekend, so a drop off in sales is less likely over the next couple of weeks. With that said, however, it's pretty shocking and underwhelming that she may sell less copies of "Applause" over a two week period than "Born this Way" sold in three days (and less than half of Katy's song). Not good :o

I don't think that's shocking at all. Most of the singles from her last album either flopped or underperformed, which clearly affects her next album.

Ariana is the hot new chick in town so of course she is going to put up some strong numbers. Don't use her to throw shade at Lady Gaga.

The Hollywood Reporter:
In three days, the pop star has sold over 272,000 digital songs and is projected to hit 525,000 within the single's first week of release.
Katy Perry's new single “Roar” marks a career milestone for the pop singer.
The ferocious mid-tempo track, which hit digital retailers at midnight on Aug. 12, has already sold 272,000 digital songs, and “Roar” is on target to move 525,000 in its first week of release, surpassing RobinThicke's “Blurred Lines.”
In addition, “Roar” claims the biggest digital song debut of 2013, surpassing One Direction’s “Best Song Ever,” which tallied 322,000 for the week ending July 28.
The song marks a career best for Perry. Although she hit the ground running just as strongly with her previous album, 2010’s Teenage Dream — a release that would yield five No. 1 singles, a record for a female artist — the biggest digital track from that cycle was “Firework” with 509,000 unit sales for the week ending Dec. 26, 2010. Perry’s biggest digital song debut to date was 2012’s “Part of Me,” which moved 411,000 its first week out, according to Perry’s label, Capitol Music Group.
"Roar" inched onto the Billboard Hot 100 after it leaked on Aug. 10 and is expected to topple Thicke’s "Blurred Lines" from the top spot on next week’s chart, which factors sales and airplay.
It all bodes for a promising start to the Prism rollout. Perry’s third album is slated for release on Oct. 22.

By looking at the pop bars and the data we have now, I think Gaga will debut with 250k - 300k. Remember that her music video will be released on Monday.

My prediction:
1. Robin (295,000/12) + (230,900,000/7,500) + (6,800,000/450) = 70,481 2. Katy (565,000/12) + (67,000,000/7,500) + (4,000,000/450) = 64,906 3. Gaga (275,000/12) + (33,000,000/7,500) + (6,500,000/450) = 41,761 4. Miley (144,000/12) + (51,000,000/7,500) + (7,150,000/450) = 34,689
Remember that Applause will go for adds on August the 19th, so her radio updates should be better next week.

did Billboard or Paul make a statement about the last time the top 10 being static? I really can't remember the last time the top ten did not move at all.

Last year around April when Starships, Gotye, Payphone etc were charting, I think there was a static week or two. "The songs at Nos. 1 through 9, in fact, remain stationary on the Hot 100. It's the first time that the top nine have remained in the same order in consecutive weeks since the entire top 10 repeated their ranks on the chart dated Jan. 10. 2004." www.billboard.com/articles/news/485449/phillip-phillips-storms-hot-100s-top-10-gotye-has-years-longest-running-no-1EDIT: This also occurred in the middle of Billie Jeans reign at #1 (April 2nd, 1983). The entire Top 11 was static that week. Another instance was on the chart dated August 19th, 1978. That week holds the record because the Top 14 didn't move at all.

Even if Katy jumps to #2 this week, I know she'll hit #1 in the long run.
Just look at that insane update with so much to grow. :'(

If Katy's only just shot her video last week (and I know she has, I saw the BTS pictures) then I highly doubt we'll be seeing it any time this month. I say early September at the earliest, we'll get it, unless they're working overtime to rush it out there.

She'll probably hit #1 the week of the video released when she's top 5 on airplay. I see a chart run similar to California Gurls.
