Warner Brother's new duo have released their debut single, 19 You + Me. Add Date: TBDSingle Confirmation and Small Bio: SourceLyric Video: My three observations: 1) Did anyone else think Dan + Shay was a guy and a girl duo; it is actually two dudes. 2) This is VERY pop country. Reminds me of McAlyster 3) One of the very best lyric videos I have ever seen, WB seems like they are really behind this.

I first saw that video when Scooter Braun shared it on twitter mentioning that it was one of the best lyric videos, and by his friends. I totally agree with all your observations, especially that I thought they are guy and girl duo.

This is quite good. I do agree that it's poppy, but I'm already liking it better than any of the songs I've heard so far from Florida Georgia Line.

I absolutely love this song. It reminds me of a mix between a FGL and Hunter Hayes song. I'm excited to see how this does, because I feel like it could end up being a big hit!

With the current state of country radio these days,Ive always been the kind that wants more traditional country or even more early to mid 2000's country. Whether its pop(Taylor),rock(FGL,Parmalee,Brantley),or even hip hop(colt),country has had a real issue lately IMO,and also.......Wait........Better stop myself before I get upset about this(LOL). But this song is the only exception lately. When it started I thought Oh God another pop song with some country instruments to say its country, but when that chorus it I went WOW. I wanted to not like this song but I couldn't lie to myself. The chorus is one of the best I've heard in any song in a while. The story line is not exactly new and the lyrics are good but nothing to write home about...But the production his great IMO and not overdone, the vocals are good, and that chorus is fantastic. The fact these two are on Warner Music is a encouraging sign for this single to do well, and I've seen a lot of promos on countryaircheck the last 2 weeks for it. Seems the label is all in on these guys. The only question is that is this song to poppy. But if FGL, Hunter, and even that horrible that's my kind of night song do well.Im sure Country Radio can find room in their playlist for this great song.

My three observations: 1) Did anyone else think Dan + Shay was a guy and a girl duo; it is actually two dudes. I thought the same thing!! Didn't realize it was a guy duo until I saw them live. I hear early Rascal Flatts in this more than the two artists mentioned here. I agree, I actually thought it was a Rascal Flatts song the first time I heard it. I kind have been describing them as Florida Georgia Line meets Rascal Flatts. More so on the Rascal Flatts side. Anyway I absolutely love Dan and Shay and this song! Two weeks ago tomorrow I had never heard of these guys and then I heard 19 You and Me on The Highway, and then two days later I saw them open for Hunter Hayes at the Bloomsburg Fair. They did an acoustic show and I was blown away by their talent. Shay can sing his face off!! They kind of remind me of another country duo I follow called Kingston.

I hope radio embraces this song. It's got this "swag" about it, without being too in-your-face and over-the-top like Florida Georgia Line.

Over 50 stations already this week and 41 alone on its official first impacting week. I know we've seen the occasional new artist get a lot of adds on its first week and not do as great as you would have thought ( Rockie Lynne, Bomshel, Lee Brice's first single), but that's about as many as any new act can wish for first week out. To me it's a combination of Being on Warner Music Nashville, a successful radio tour, and having an amazing song as your debut single doesn't hurt either. I always said that a debut single from a new artist has to stand out to have a good chance for a hit and more stations adding it ( Alyssa Lies, I Loved Her First, Prayin For Daylight, Stealing Cinderella, even Redneck Woman ad Hicktown). The more people saying " Have you heard that song yet" to other people, the better chance it has at radio. Now that's not to say you don't need good promotion from the label, radio tour, and a radio friendly song, cause you do. But to make a Big impact yes. That's why Iove this song it stands out on the radio. Ya it's poppy...but have you been hearing what are PD's are playing lately? At least this nontraditional country song is actually good!
If Dan+ Shay can duplicate these vocals, harmonies, and melody consistently they will stick around.

Thank goodness for Pulse....haven't heard this on my radio yet.
But I really like it. I agree with Matt-it reminds me of a non-nasally more melodic Rascal Flatts song.
Definitely not very country though-but at least no signs of rap or getting laid in a truck, lol.

Not country but I still love it. I think that's the overall sentiment. Most love it like me but not that country. But I'll take any good music right now. Love the way he sings "Watching That Blonde Hair Swing".

It sounds more like something I'd enjoy hearing on Top 40 radio alongside Katy Perry, 1D, Bruno, and Gaga. Sounds like Backstreet Boys gone Country but forgetting they are still Pop.

This is almost as bad as FGL for me. And it isn't even as catchy as anything FGL has released. It frustrates me because all I see is non-stop promotion from Hunter Hayes fans on Twitter. This is just a mess.
Looks like it is being embraced strongly unfortunately. Probably a significantly sized hit.

Looks like the hype as worked. Up 209 spins with an audience of 2.11, and enters the mediabase top 50. It only went for adds officially 5 days ago!
But they are on Warner Nashville I guess.

80 committed stations on its second week at radio...Wow! Along with a big jump to #47 on Mediabase.
Pretty good for a brand new artist. Is Warner Music gonna be the ultimate powerhouse label in Nashville from here on in now?

Is Warner Music gonna be the ultimate powerhouse label in Nashville from here on in now? I doubt it. Just 2-3 years ago they were really struggling. Blake was really the only one scoring a lot of hits and then he got on a big roll (from "Honey Bee" onwards) and then they got a big break with Hunter Hayes. That's kind of rubbed off on all their other artists now, because they get represented by the same promotion teams. The success of Hunter and Blake has no doubt helped Cole Swindell, Frankie Ballard, Brett Eldredge, and Jana Kramer. WMN is definitely one of the big power labels in town but I still think Big Machine has done a better job 'breaking' their artists, and Capitol Nashville seems to do very well...their merger into UMG has also helped some of the Mercury/MCA artists.

I like this, I could see myself singing along to this in the car. Reminds me of something Taylor would write/sing.

I`m a big fan of this song.....like everyone else, I assumed this was a male/female duo. BUT, that chorus is explosive. Shay Mooney is a talented cat, and I'm fully on-board.

If I may ask, when was the last time a debut single moved as fast as this has?

Amazing how little attention they're getting from "reliable" sources — the likes of CMT, GAC, etc. I could barely find ANYthing to scrape together more than two sentences worth of Wikipedia article on them.

Well to be honest, even though I don't have any #'s (Im sure countryhistorian, jhomes87, or ten pound hammer can help you with that) there's been a few.
1) "Cruise" 2) "Chillin It" 3) "Redneck Woman" 4) "Alyssa Lies" 5) "Jesus Take The Wheel" (First country single, Inside Your Heaven didn't get any airplay) 6) "Chicken Fried"
Are just a few that I remember moving up fast for a debut single.
Edit: I think the reason radio is on board with these guys is three simple words.....Killer Radio Tour. They have a series of 5 to 7 minute YouTube episodes chronicling their radio tour, and its very entertaining. They just blew away radio staffs minds with Shay Mooney's unbelievable voice and enthusiastic personalities. Not surprising at all that "19 You + Me" is moving up so fast after watching these.

"I Loved Her First" also had a rapid climb for a debut single. I think it hit #1 in only 16 weeks. Can't remember how long "Cruise" took, but I think it was the fastest climbing debut since "Redneck Woman".
"Chicken Fried" I believe took well over 25 weeks to get to the top.

Thought i'd post a link to Dan + Shay's radio tour. This is to me a good reason why these guys were so embraced by country radio. This is also just 1 of 5 short video's of their trek at radio. Got a feeling "19 You + Me" won't be a one hit wonder.

I don't claim to be a traditionalist (anyone who reads this board knows that I'm a pretty big fan of people like Keith Urban & Hunter Hayes, among others), but all I can think of when I hear these guys is "wrong genre". The songs themselves definitely aren't bad (in fact I agree that they're pretty catchy with decent lyrics), but I just don't hear anything country in their vocals or in the production.
Seeing the buzz from the radio tour, it doesn't surprise me that this is doing well. What does surprise me is that country radio is embracing such a boy band/pop duo so well, while artists with a much more country sound continue to struggle and are forced to take the slow road up the radio charts. You'd think I would've learned by now that country radio is continuing to get further and further away from country music...
Dan + Shay have some good songs and a nice sound, but if we're going to continue to have genre-based radio formats, I wish they would play the music more obviously rooted in that genre. But I guess it all goes back to the record labels too...they are the ones pushing these new acts and this new country music out to country radio, most likely because country radio has continued to shift more and more to the pop/rock side over the last few years. The genre lines are blurring and the stuff that isn't rooted in one genre or another winds up selling more for the simple reason that it has multi-genre appeal, and I think country radio has just become obsessed with trying to tap into all of these new 'country' fans. You can say that music evolves and trends come and go, and I agree with all of that, but the fact remains that there actually are still people making the more 'traditional' type of country, yet their home format's radio stations have all but abandoned them.
It's easier for me to accept new styles from Carrie Underwood or Keith Urban or Lady Antebellum (etc) because they've all shown a deep appreciation to the genre and they've all at least put out quite a few 'countrier' tunes, but I guess out of all the new acts getting pushed to country radio, Dan + Shay is the least country I've heard yet. And that's the issue that I have...the people who are actually staying true to country music don't really have a home on the radio format that should be their own--the stations that still call themselves country. Artists like Josh Turner, Easton Corbin, Ashley Monroe, Kacey Musgraves, Kellie Pickler, Chris Stapleton, Greg Bates, James Wesley, Chris Janson, etc...they have a much tougher time getting played (some obviously more than others), despite making music that is more rooted within the country genre.
When it came to posting in this thread, I'd been trying to bite my tongue, but I couldn't hold back any longer. So, I guess this is my grumpy post for the day. I definitely have nothing against these guys, but I guess it just seems that the more 'trendier' and 'poppier' an act is, the easier chance they have to break through at country radio, and that just seems wrong to me.

I think these guys sound just like Rascal Flatts. I like this first single fairly well and I think these guys will ultimately be big competition for Florida-Georgia Line in the future.

This kind of reaction is something I expected a little sooner than now. But I'm a "Traditionalist" at heart. People have seen my other posts on the pure crap being played at radio while other true country artist are treated like they have leprocy. I don't like the fact that I love 19 You + Me. It's the only non sounding country song lately Ive liked. Saying I'm for this particular song may make it seem that I am contradicting myself. Which is ok if I get grieve for cause it would make sense. If all country or at least most of it sounded like "19 You + Me" ten years from now, I would not be for it at all. Even though I love this song. But the one thing I know that I love more than "19 You + Me is the country music I grew up on. The artist you mentioned I love, and there is no good excuses country radio can come up with in why that music is not reaching more listeners. The point of the link was to show a reason why radio has welcomed them with open arms (And not a scream for more artist like Dan. + Shay). People will say it isn't country, which I do agree with. But this song is good music IMO. Something that let's say "Bait A Hook" by Justin Moore isn't even close to being good, yet that is country as country gets. But to reiterate my earlier point. If this is where country music is heading for the most part....That I would not be for!

I hear early Rascal Flatts in this more than the two artists mentioned here. This reminds me of songs like "While You Loved Me" from Rascal Flatts debut album. These guys are a bit more pop, but their harmonies really remind me of classic Flatts.
