Anyone notice another song entitled "Day Drinkin'"? Parmalee and Little Big Town also have songs by that title.

No kidding. Lol Somehow the video's dumber than the song ...Which says a mouthful! Obviously having an atrocious song wasn't good enough, they gotta have an atrocious music video to go right along with it. When I saw the donkey I checked out.

The part that confused me (I don't know why I'm trying to reason through this) is that the donkey is in the video for like 10 seconds and it's never seen again. Usually with something that outlandish you'll see a call back or some kind of payoff at the end, but it never came. It's like they randomly had a donkey around and thought "Why WOULDN'T we put it in the video?!" Nonetheless, the black and white contrasts are at least appealing, while I don't see this song really having a need for that kind of imagery.

I think judging by the video there was a little more than alcohol in that cup. Lol I don't think i have seen a video this odd or pointless in a long time. I usually like a song more after i see the video for it but this didn't do anything but make me laugh at the money wasted to produce it.

I'm no expert in videography, but I don't think showing grotesque insects in your music videos is the greatest idea.

I hope Jerrod eventually becomes aware of how absolutely ridiculous this song and video make him look. I've never had much time for him as an artist, but as of right now my respect for this guy is pretty much non-existent.
Anyway, that video goes along perfectly with the song! They're both dumb and atrocious. :) This video is a mess with no clear concept. You can't have much of a concept with these lyrics, but still it could have been done way better. I get the donkey being in there, but it should have been shown more than just a couple seconds. And there was absolutely NO point to the bug! It was gross and utterly stupid. The only reason I could give for the bug there was that it symbolized listeners being bugged by the song and video because it's so horrible, but I'm assuming that's not what the director was going for here.
What a mess.

Small possibility (HOPE, HOPE, HOPE I'm so wrong) on the donkey in the video, on iTunes, if you pre-order "High Noon" you get a song called "Donkey"...yep, Donkey is the title of a song. Listen to it if you can (I got 5 seconds).
Honestly, just for kicks I hope this and "Donkey" are part of a series of videos that have some crazy storyline, at least then I could get some entertainment out of these videos.

Is there a song called "Disgusting Bug"? Edit: I just heard "Donkey". What. In. The. Hell. Was. That. Something has obviously happened to Jerrod Niemann, cause he has gone off the deep end.

Some of you apparently haven't heard Jerrod's previous stuff. His albums have always been a little (shall I say) 'out there'. The song "Donkey" doesn't surprise me one bit given the stuff that's one his other records.

This is one of the worst songs I've ever heard. Instant channel changer. More Lover, Lover and What Do You Want and less of this garbage. Donkey sounds like a joke too from the preview clip.

The song "Donkey" doesn't surprise me one bit given the stuff that's one his other records. I've heard his previous albums. The difference to me is that stuff was actually good. Songs like "They Should Have Named You Cocaine", "For Everclear", "Down In Mexico", "I'll Have To Kill The Pain", "Only God Could Love You More", even "Guessing Games" I thought were good songs and Jerrod found a nice balance of country and other genres influence to his music. "Free The Music" was really the only song I didn't like from his last album. "Drink To That All Night", and "Donkey" are just stupid, pointless and strange for the sake of being strange. Plus they completely go out of their way to not sound like country music. I supported Jerrod's last two albums, but based off the two I've heard from this one, I don't feel like I will enjoy this as much as Jury or Free The Music. "I'm gonna ride that donkey, donkey. Down to that honky tonky. It's gonna get funky, funky....(obnoxious donkey noise)". Those lyrics don't work for me. This is the other song that was hand picked to release early to iTunes?

Yeah I really hope the rest of the album is a step above these two (especially "Donkey", "Drink to That..." I'll admit to be a guilty pleasure, but I do not consider it a country song).
I just am so confused, Jerrod runs with Lee Brice and the two can write some stellar songs, but to see the very different paths their carrer and music have taken are shocking. I thought after "Lover, Lover" and "What Do You Want" Neimann was well on his way up.

Most of the album will have a sonic template like these two songs. I heard Donkey months ago and knee it was corny but totally Jerrod.

I think Dustin J. may have been referring to some of Jerrod's earliest material prior to his record deal with Sea Gayle/Arista. Jerrod self-released 2 albums, one in 1999 and another in 2004, before landing on Brad Paisley's radar and getting a record deal with Sony as a result. Obviously even Jerrod's more 'mainstream' music has been very unique, but he's still generated enough of the right songs, both from a sonic and lyrics standpoint, that they would work at radio. Free The Music proved to be too big of a risk--it fell outside the parameters of what radio is willing to play, and it totally bombed commercially without any radio support. I'm not really surprised that High Noon will likely have some bizarre-sounding tracks on it, as that's what I've come to expect from Jerrod. Yes, he can release gems like "Lover, Lover" and "What Do You Want", as well as quality tracks like "Bakersfield" and "Old School New Again", but I've never seen him as the type to trod down a road that so many others have taken. "Donkey" is obviously not a radio song, and like sabre14 said, yes, I do think it's a strange song that was made for the sake of simply being a strange song. I think Jerrod is someone who really wants to stand out and so far he's done pretty well at doing so. "Drink To That All Night" is an obvious stinker to me, because it has trite lyrics combined with bro-country elements and EDM sounds, and that's not the type of music I enjoy. But I am sure he will give us some quality material as well, stuff that's a little more 'mainstream'. Jerrod is far from one of my favorite artists, but he's produced several tracks that I enjoy immensely, and if he can avoid pandering to the masses (which I feel he's done with pretty much all of his material save for the current single), then I can appreciate his creative drive, even if it results in as many songs that I don't like as ones that I do.

^ As I said, I don't even think that this song is pandering all that much. This song has bro and EDM influences, but I think the use of banjo and mandolin in that kind of setting gives it some underpinnings of country at least. And because it combines those influences, I still think it sounds like nothing else on radio. Where else are you going to hear banjo and Auto-Tune together?
Songs like "Donkey" make me realize just how much "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" was ahead of its time.

It's not a perfect comparison, but in a way Jerrod is this decade's version of Dwight Yoakam. You never quite know what he'll record. Dwight's extremely intelligent with a curious sense of humor. Dwight recorded a lot of pure country music, but if you listen to the Population Me album, it's more than a little bit different. And quite a few of his singles wouldn't have been released by anybody else.
Of course Dwight had a more successful career on the charts, but Jerrod's still in his early stages. (I hope.)
I think Bakersfield and Old School New Again would have been fantastic on the radio, and I don't think there are very many artists on the charts right now who would or could record music like that -- so I'm willing to allow Jerrod his creative eccentricities and just hope he includes a few songs I enjoy. That's the price you pay to have people with imagination in your genre. What Do You Want was exceptional, and I'll put up with a few like the current single if I can be rewarded with the occasional great song.
His current single deserves the criticism it's getting, but the artist himself I will defend.

He has always been quirky with his music (and we have only heard one full song from his album so we have no clue what the rest holds). And this song doesn't seem to be flying up the charts so I don't think it's working either.

Ahhh, I think I mixed this one up with the new Josh Thompson song then. I didn't know this was climbing so fast. Still though, without hearing the album yet, it's tough to say what the rest of his music will be like. Thank you Carriekins for the chart info!

Anyone knows if this is Jerrod's fastest rising single? When I think of Lover Lover and What Do You Want lenghty climbs come to me
