Do you guys think she's got staying power on radio? Yes, her record hit gold in sales, but none of her songs have reached the top 10. Seems like her latest singles have fizzled. Any thoughts?

I think Julie got a bit lost in Gretchen's dust. Which is too bad, since I think Julie is more talented. I hope she has staying power.

Well, Julie definitely would have been a huge star if the Gretchen Wilson hype had not swept her away.
Julie had the promotion, the label support, and industry support.
She just did not have enough of those things to match the support Gretchen had.
Sony put everything[/I][/U] they had behind Gretchen. They acted like she was the only artist on their label for a while.
Julie didn't have that.
Mercury pushed Terri Clark for the award shows in the major categories and left Julie for the smaller "New Artist" categories.
Mercury also spent some money pushing Terri's single(s) up the charts.
That also took some steam away from Julie.
If Mercury had put their full support toward Julie, got her name out there, and had Julie out there just before Gretchen, then Julie would have been huge.
The country industry can only seem to handle 1 huge female favorite and 1, maybe 2, huge male favorite(s) at a time.
Gretchen is the huge female favorite now.
Julie just got lost in the shuffle.

I believe that Julie is performing a theme song or something of the like for Good Morning America... maybe it is a commercial, I don't know. I just know that people really have been buzzing about her. I think that some of the single choices have been bad, too, which hasn't helped her chartwise.

I'm going to see Julie Sunday night at Mohegan Sun. I'll let you all know how she is.

Last year Julie was seen constantly. I thought Mercury did an awesome job getting her seen. The CMT show featuring her was on for a month, the TV spots, the Macy's Christmas Parade, the magazines, three videos. It was amazing the way Mercury supported her. IMO, not many new female artists get what Julie got. I believe she'll be recording another album for Mercury.

The fact that her album is Gold with a lack of radio support is huge.

Julie and Gretchen sound better on CD than live to me.
That's why I like Katrina, Sugarland and Miranda more than them.

I hope Julie Roberts is here to stay but I would be really worried if I was mercury about the lack of radio success Julie has had. She had more pub out of the box than Gretchen Wilson had, Julie was everywhere(CMT in the momment, Cosmo, Etc). I think Julie has a really unique style but there better be at least a radio hit on this album or she's done.

She surprised me by having a gold album with no radio help... Who knows what she could sell if she had a top 10 single.

I don't think Gretchen's success has anything to do with Julia at all. They are so different in style, voice, sound, looks... there is no comparison. I think Julia's two singles have been sophisticated and moody... and radio does not always take kindly to those. I also think she seriously lacks stage prescence... I like her videos, but her live performances on the Opry and such have been... bloody awkward.

I saw Julie last night at the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den. Couldn't get a seat in the concert area, but was able to watch from the nearby bar. What most impressed me about Julie was how down to earth she is, very thankful for what she's acheived. She truly seems humbled by all her success. Julie also brought her mom on stage for Mother's day, thanked her for everything. The band even chipped in and got Julie's mom a present. very nice.
She performed for a little less than an hour, covering most of the tracks on her CD. I can see how some don't see her as a "performer", because when she does move around stage, it looks like its something she doesn't enjoy (think Carrie on American Idol). But she sure can belt a tune. She sounded amazing on "Wake Up Older" and "Unlove Me". She covered the same Patsy Cline song she sang on the CMT love songs show, and closed with 'Break Down Here".
Definitely not a party atmosphere like seeing Tim or Kenny, but if you want to hear a great singer just belt out tunes, I recommend seeing Julie live.

That's a tough one. I agree that Julie got an OUTLANDISH amount of publicity from the CMT "In the Moment". If that wasn't enough to break her....I don't know what will. No new artists get that lucky with publicity. I like her album a lot but it can feel a little bit heavy at times. I LOVE "Rain on a Tin Roof" and "Down home". I think either one of those may have done a little better than "Break Down Here". But then....what do I know. :) I guess she's a little more alternative because she's bluesy?

No doubt about it.....Katrina Elam rips it up live! She has to be one of the BEST female singers in Nashville but her singles couldn't gain the momentum she needed....yet. Julie's album is great but she isn't nearly as impressive live as Katrina and even Miranda. (I'm bracing myself for getting yelled at by one of you for that last statement). ;)

She's got great pipes. I've never been impressed that much with Julie Robert's vocals, on the singles I've heard. To me it's obvious Katrina's the better vocalist, but that's just my opinion.

She has less than mediocre talent and it shows by her lack of airplay after TONS of media hype.

Just because someone doesn't belt out the notes all the time doesn't make them less of a vocalist like you guys like to think. Julie has one of the best sounding voices to come along in a LONG time

Julie and Katrina are different types of singers. Julie has a more classical sound, while Katrina is more pop sounding. They can both belt it out with the best of them.
I do prefer Katrina's material however.

Julie does has a pretty tone to her voice. I was talking about being a better vocalist in general. Yes, they do sound very different. When it comes to who has progressed further in mastering their "instrument", I think most would say that Katrina wins hand down. She has amazing vocal control and great range. Her material is just a more poppy.

I think Julie is a great talent and I sure hope she gets to stay around. She's unique, but not in a weird Muzik Mafia type way ! LOL !

She has a great, original voice but I don't think you will ever hear her belt anything out like Martina, Trisha and the like. Just because they don't have the "range" doesn't mean they aren't a vocalist.

Steelo... You said the same thing twice, about range. We get it! :) I just feel, and some others do, that Katrina can do more with her vocals. Range helps with that.

While yes, it does help with that, it doesn't mean one can "do more". As for saying the same thing twice, sorry, but others stated the same thing over and over as well.

Alison Krauss can belt it out with the best of them. Listen to the Live album.

Please don't misinterpret what I said. I didn't say that Katrina is a better vocalist because she can "belt it out". I said that she is a better vocalist because she has unbelievable vocal control (she can even make yodeling sound incredible), and she has a multi-octive range. Eventhough many might say that Julie has a more pleasant tone, I don't think her vocal abilities are as well developed. Tone and control aren't really related if I remember correctly.
p.s. I ADORE Alison Krauss!
