What's caused the top 10 to be so weak lately? Only last year, the entire top 5 were getting over 45k points at times. Now the #1 is struggling to break 30k. Even streaming seems to have dropped. I shudder to think how long Shape Of You or Despacito would've ruled that #1 spot in this weak field. 20 weeks? 30? I put blame on the formula change tbh It’s not just the formula change. Songs just aren’t performing well in general. We’re just not getting those 100k+ sales weeks, 60-70 million streaming weeks, or songs breaking into the 220-250m AI range on radio anymore. Formula changes can only do so much. I’m wondering if the whole industry is entering a slump.

Lack of big name releases, this year we only really had Drake (maybe Gaga?) while last year we had Ed,Bieber,Drake,Kendrick,Taylor Swift etc making high profile new eras

Drake didn't really have a high profile era last year he only had a pair of forgettable #8 peaks.
It does feel like this year is gonna be all but completely forgotten when looking back. Like no matter which two of the top songs is #1 I think it's gonna be the most forgotten #1 songs of the year since, like, 2001 or maybe even going back all the way to 1990. One exception is I Like It, that one's probably gonna be a summer staple for while

^ Yeah I think you're right honestly probably even Moonlight despite being around 80 on the year end list will probably be a song people remember. But that's the thing, neither of those songs are gonna be in the year end top 10 or even 15 and the songs that are are for the most part probably not gonna last beyond I Like It and Havana or Nice For What maybe

With Mo Bamba hitting the top 10 this week and High Hopes being at #11, it seems like they both might just barely miss it. Drip Too Hard might get enough points to scrape into the bottom of the YE. If not I see all three of these songs making the 2019 YE also including Without Me.

I feel like a lot of Xs material will stay really beloved by fans for decades, he just has that vibe of cult status

I see his music and his story being ingrained in pop culture for years to come. When people look back at the state of popular music in the late 2010's, people will look at X. Yeah he was a piece of s**t, but the dude was a trailblazer in regards to rise of Soundcloud rap and Emo rap into the mainstream, I think Juice WRLD can attribute most of his success to XXX and of course Post Malone.

XXXTENTACION didn't have Tupac's level of success, and the murders were far different circumstances.

Plus he had a 566,000 sales week for an album and another #1 album, in addition. Plus the highly critically acclaimed, award winning "Dear Mama". X had one top 10 hit, "SAD!", which peaked at #7 because of an album bomb then quickly dropped. He had a #1 album with 100K+ first week and a #2 album. Most of X's fame came the month after his death.

^ Yes that's all true, but X has had a huge cult following for a while now and his fanbase has increased significantly in the past year, especially after his death.
X doesn't have Tupac's fame, but I feel like that's how he'll be remembered 10-20 years from now, as a figure from the late 2010's that died at the height of his popularity.

Remember that Xs career was shorter than Tupac. He didn't have enough time to Garner enough popularity to have Tupac numbers. Who knows, maybe the original Arms Around You could've been a worldwide smash rn or maybe he'd have that smash #1 next year. It's hard to compare to Tupac because the careers are different.

Here's my top 100 of the year calculations including the 11/10/2018 chart. Unlike fhas I use a modified inverse point system, so despite it's dismal numbers, Girls Like You gets the same points at its 7th week at #1 as any previous song there that long. It means on my chart, GLY will probably climb to #4 or even #3 on the year-end by the time the last chart is included in two weeks time.
I've included the top 100, and any songs in the top 200 still on the chart, although with only two weeks left in the year, most of these just won't make it in. Mo Bamba, High Hopes and Beautiful are the only songs likely to climb into the top 100 at this point.

November 10, 2018 - 51/53 weeks (96.23%)
Added this week: ---> Bank Account (21 Savage) ---> River (Eminem feat. Ed Sheeran) ---> The Way Life Goes (Lil Uzi Vert feat. Oh Wonder) Locked this week: ---> Happier (Marshmello & Bastille) Estimated Cutoff ---> 185,000 points (margin of error: 2% --- 188,700-181,300) *I think the song at #100 will be around 185k points, but it's possible that it ends up with 188.7k-181.3k

I’m A Mess and broken seem like the only songs that’ll pass Chun Li at this point, putting CL at 101 overall. *cries*
Side-note: as annoying as it is that the charts are so weak rn, it’s great that it means songs like Chun Li and IDGAF now have a chance, unlike in previous years when the point threshold for the YE was much higher.

I assume Thank You Next won't make this year's chart, right? it would need a Hello or Candle In The Wind-esque debut to make it with only 2 weeks

Not at all, her SS song was one of the few flops from the soundtrack singles, people like Charlie Puth and Kyle where getting hits after hit until a collab came out and they flop, nothing on her album took off, etc
