I'll just accept the fact that Style will never go top 5 on the weekly chart and its peak will be at number 6. But still, I hope Style will make it on top 20 or 25 at the end of the year. I just want to ask if there's a chance that it will stay longer on top 10 and will end up on top 20 or 25 on the year-end chart? I'd be happy if the answer is yes.

What do you think would happen if Style was the 2nd single and Blank Space being the 3rd single?

What do you think would happen if Style was the 2nd single and Blank Space being the 3rd single? Depends whether they will still use the same video for Style or not The reason why Style isn't the mega smash that it should have been is because it's video kinda bombed. If they used a more typical or Swifty video (e.g. A video of TS and her friends going through fashion eras, a more summery video, etc), then Style will reach top 3 if not #1. I think the main reason why Style isn't as big as it should have been is because the video kinda bombed. If they want to keep the dark-ish vibe for the video, a video of Tay breaking down in her Blank Space mansion will do well.

Style didn't get the promo Blank Space did. And from an album with such big sales, every single will get more trouble to reach big sales by itself.
Adele quitted releasing singles in Uk after Set fire to the rain didn't reach top 10. And Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran are getting high with their fifth and fourth singles because they are different versions of the album
That's another reason why UF is doing so great even after so many weeks at number one, people who like the song are buying the single and not the album, and UF even benefit from the fact there's no new Mark Ronson (or Bruno Mars) song stealing its spins in airplay
Taylor can't build her career only thinking in chart facts, if she wants to experiment with her sound and visuals she must do it. If you go to and watch big artist chart peaks it's not difficult to discover big hits and number ones that went forgotten long time ago and song that underperformed that are considered classics in the singers discography

Hopefully Blank Space manages to make it to the top 4 at the end of the year so it might outpeak Love Story, which has been the only song from her ranking in the year-end chart top 10 And yeah Taylor has done Style so wrong that it will problaly be even lower than SIO at the end of this year

To Daniel Collins: I think the formula for this year is similar to last year, only streaming lowered by a third. Sales/12 + Airplay/9000 + Streams/900.

^ if that's the case then UF has an even better chance to get #1 next week instead of SYA but I doubt it because sales are very poor right now so I think they're sticking to sales/10. The airplay/9000 vs. the airplay/9650 is definitely helpful to UF though!

I normally just use multipliers to check each song's points for simplicity. last year is: sales(k) + airplay(m)*4/3 + streams(m)*20 . this year would be sales(k) + airplay(m*4/3 + streams(m)*40/3. Basing from the formulas used by billboard in the past, they're quite straightforward like adding airplay and sales (I mean in thousands and millions) in late 2000s and early 2010s, to doubling sales' value in middle 2000s or using multipliers 4/3 and 5/3 and integers 12, 600, 900, 75, 50 etc. I don't think they use intricate formulas for their computations. You did a great job last year by the way.

If I'm not mistaken, I've read in one of their articles that they only lowering the weight of streaming due to songs getting high streams compared before. Sales and airplay would be the same.

In general, it's more on the ratio and not the integers to use. if they use /10 for sales then airplay would be /7500 and streams /750. I've tried it and it worked.

For 4/25, with that formula, UF gets about 120 + 210 + 200 = 530 points With current prediction for SYA, it would be 400 + 20 + ? = 420 + ? points
This means SYA needs 110 points from streaming which would be more than 8 million streams. If the one I see on YouTube with 665k views in the last 24 hours or so is the only one available for streaming, it is very unlikely that SYA will get enough streams to dethrone UF on the Hot 100 next week because majority of the streams will come from Spotify (and Facebook streams don't count).

I've used that formula for every week this year and it worked. the only minor mistakes are when BB give the percentages a song increased or decreased in which we know they normally have typos or make mistakes. It doesn't really matter what integer they use as long the ratio is satisfied as all songs' points are computed with the same formula, whether it's /10 or /12.

I hope you're right. Streaming and airplay are what UF relies on to get past the 14th week...

Thanks thebztor15. I'll revise this when I got time. I always make things complicated not knowing it's just as simple as that.

Thanks thebztor15. I'll revise this when I got time. I always make things complicated not knowing it's just as simple as that. Believe it or not, the math might support the formula you've been using for this year slightly more. Here's why: Sales, airplay, streaming - 4/11 UF: 165000, 166000000, 16200000 Sugar: 143000, 133000000, 9500000 Plug these figures into the sales/10, airplay/7500, streaming/750 formula and we get: UF: 16500 + 22133.33 + 21600 = 60233 Sugar: 14300 + 17733.33 + 12666.66 = 44700 44700 / 60233 = 74.211811% - almost three-fourths, as opposed to the two-thirds stated in the article. Granted something like that is a very rough figure, but...I could justify something like a 70% even figure being approximated to two-thirds. 74% and change, on the other hand? As for your sales/10, airplay/9650, streaming/775 formula... UF: 16500 + 17202 + 20903 = 54605 Sugar: 14300 + 13782 + 12258 = 40340 40340 / 54605 = 73.876019% - also too much closer to three-fourths for comfort in using this formula, but slightly less so compared to the other.

^ I believe the "two-thirds" is another typo from billboard. If you check the percentage decrease and increase of uptown funk and sugar using the formulas I mentioned, they are actually spot on. Even Wiz's SYA points component is spot on using the formula. I also checked last week and the weeks before, they are spot on. Like what I said, I don't think Billboard would use intricate formulas on their computation. in simpler terms, I use multipliers. This year the formula is Sales(k) + Airplay(m)*4/3 + Streams(m)*40/3. Last year the formula is Sales(k) + Airplay(m)*4/3 + Streams*20 (or 40/2). the year before that is Sales(k) + Airplay(m)*4/3 + Streams*25 (or 50/2). Notice the pattern. During 2009-2011, the formula is basically Sales(k)+ Airplay(m). then they adjusted the airplay to 4/3 then when One More Night was at the top, the airplay was roughly 5/3 enough to keep Gangnam Style from no.1.

The sales part would be the only one that's accurate.Spotify stopped updating their weekly top 200 so I'm just estimating streaming with almost no basis. Anyway, thanks!
P.S. The next table might be late since I am currently revising the formula.

I hope we can have some clarity on the formula next week from the data that Billboard will release.. As SYA will have a big sales lead and UF a big airplay lead, if Billboard gives out the difference between the total points of the two songs, then the weightage of Airplay with respect to that of sales can be deduced fairly accurately.

To Daniel Collins: I hope you haven't revised your calculations yet and hope you didn't follow my formula as when I checked today, it was actually wrong. My bad. Even though it did fit with some of the weeks, there are also some that didn't. I've checked all the numbers from tracking week 1 to the 20th and I think the formula is basically sales/10 + airplay/10000 +streams/1000 or simply add the numbers and multiply streams by 10 e.g. 120k sales, 140 million AI, 8 million streams would be 100 + 140 + 80. It was correct with all of the weeks by ranking and most of the weeks are correct with percentage increases or decreases. The only discrepancies are in Christmas and new years week and the week before and after the Grammys. In week 7, the article stated that Uptown funk's Sales (382k) accounted for 65 percent of its chart points. I think airplay (76m) was increased slightly by a third therefore: 382 + 101.33 + 100 = 583.33 382/583.33 = 0.6548 or 65.48% With the week after the Grammys, thinking out loud's points decrease was 16% from the article versus 20% using the above formula. Also in week, it says TOL and Sugar's points are 2/3s of UF but its 75 and 72% in my calculations. Anyways, next week's numbers might give a good hint.

yeah. haven't revised it yet but I have made a test chart using your formula for 4/11 and 4/18 Hot 100. Don't worry I'll go through all of the weeks first before actually revising this and even though I revise this ,I won't delete/revise the file that I first used.

Whatever happens, Uptown Funk has the Year-End #1 already on its hand. It's only competition now is Party Rock Anthem for the Decade-End #1 spot.
