Curious: What is the general consensus on her now "bashing" the remix of "Summertime Sadness" at her Coachella performance? Her comments were something along the lines of "someone remixed the shit out of it." Friends & I were discussing this at Mysteryland this past weekend - and our thoughts were she seemed kind of spiteful that the original wasn't a big mainstream hit, and the remix won a Grammy so she might feel slighted? She did provide the track to CG to be remixed, and no track gets remixed and released without proper approval from the label & artist.
I like her music, but I also feel annoyed that she would whole-heartedly bash the work of someone else that took her to the top 5 of Billboard.

I know an "unfollow" seems like a petty reasoning behind the argument, but... it seems after working together twice - he's had enough.

I lost some interest after seeing the "West Coast" video and most of the artwork. Not really what I was expecting from an album called Ultraviolence.
"Shades of Cool" isn't my thing either but the performance of the title track sounds promising enough.

"Flipside," a track already confirmed for the French and Japanese deluxe editions, is on the Target deluxe edition as well. ![](http://target.scene7.com/is/image/Target/15665068?scl=1)

I hope people didn't hear the title and expect this album to be one big revenge fantasy about killing her sugar daddy, etc. That would just be so literal, obvious, and even more boring than some people perceive the new music to be.
As for her comment about the remix, unless there was more said than reported, that standalone comment is harmless and could actually be a compliment. She didn't say "remixed to sh**", which would be something different altogether. People (including Cedric, if he indeed took offense) need to grow a pair.

I would love to know the meaning behind the album title. It's one of the more creative ones I've heard in years.

You should watch/read Clockwork Orange. It is a very clever story. I also don't know anyone in the world who was expecting some violence filled cd with her killing sugar daddies. That doesn't mean that some of us still cannot think the new music is a bit uninspired/boring. Or, at least some of it. The actual song Ultraviolence sounds good to me so I am hoping West Coast and Shades are just not indicative of the rest of the cd.

I don't remember anything about sugar daddies from A Clockwork Orange. Maybe it's time for a re-read.
Born to Die was strongly influenced by Lolita, but it wasn't a book on tape and I'm not expecting Ultraviolence to be one either. I'm simply saying that every promotional photo released so far is more basic than the last. This screams Ultraviolence (literally, even). This does not.

Personally I'm not hung up on the visuals that much because I enjoy 'West Coast' and probably will enjoy 'Ultraviolence'. Never considered her to be that high concept in the first place; but yeah, the promotional campaign for this era hasn't lined up with the title as it would relate to "A Clockwork Orange". I mean, it's entirely possible she's taking the word and redefining it (metaphorical, emotional violence maybe?) but like I said, I don't think that much thought has gone into Lana Del Rey. Point: not that upset about the marketing, although I could see why others would be disenchanted with it. Especially after 'Shades of Cool', which is still s**t.

There is some disparity between the name of the album and the imagery we're getting - even the album cover seems a bit subdued for such a strong name as Ultraviolence. The first poster we got seemed much more appropriate, as above. Sure it will make much more sense when it's released.

Whether its right or not, I don't think she will get backlash for it. In fact, it might even make people like her more. The general consensus I've found from reading tweets of friends and talking to people is that they hate the remix to. Her fans don't seem to like that the one song they can hear on the radio from her is a boring remix. Obviously non fans don't care, and don't care about lanas opinion of the remix anyway. And you don't know if she gave him permission. Remixes are usually organized by management without notification to the artist. They may have asked her if she was OK with the remix before they sent it to radio, but they might not have either. Most remix albums of singles aren't even previewed by the original artist before they are released to iTunes. If they did ask Lana, it would be an exception.

Nearly all of her singles have at least one officially commissioned remix for promoting her music to the clubs. Some artists are very involved with the remixing process in that they select the remixers and actually listen to the mixes and approve them for the release, whereas others let their management do that for them and they have no idea about how the mixes turned out. Given how many remixes some of her singles have had, I don't think she is involved in that process at all. It's too bad that she didn't like the Cedric Gervais mix of SS, but she doesn't have to love it. She didn't really need to say anything about it one way or another. But it did help to introduce her music to a new audience.
