There would have been an easy 10th #1 for Garth Brooks. The Walmart exclusive Limited Series box set from 2005 was rumored to be the biggest seller set in Walmart history at the time.

I think this is the key.. Big pop legends such as Madonna have written their songs themselves with help of current songwriters/producers. Britney and Rihanna don't write much of their songs. I think they must start doing so because the best songs from best hitmakers just will start going to other artists at some point.

It will be interesting to see who will be #1. Childish Gambino is huge with the internet crowd, and had a bunch of songs really high on iTunes. I think he should be safe for at least 100k. Same with R. Kelly. Plus Kelly Clarkson is certainly in the mix with Duck Dynasty. All 4 should be over 100k.

Go Garth, great to see him back at no1 on the charts. 2014 is going to be a huge year for him, a world tour and should be a new album too.

Not sure if he can out up his 90's type numbers, but when a boxset exclusive to walmart  gets to number one, pretty sure he will give it
a good shot.

It’s been 6 YEARS since Garth Brooks topped these charts with an album and He does so here, only this time he scores the Top 200 Albums Chart #1 too! And while that album -- The Ultimate Hits -- is included in Blame It All On My Roots, the other 5 discs are new material (4 CDs, 1 DVD).

With sales of 146,000 box sets, Garth Brooks scored the #1 album in all of America this week. Blame It All On My Roots is a six CD, 2 DVD collection consisting of four new albums of cover tracks and then, on top of that, the Ultimate Hits collection added in. So with over 300,000 sold to date, the album is already considered double platinum (and since it was ordered up to 500,000 copies by exclusive retailer Walmart, it’s already 4x Platinum certification eligible for sales to stores). the second biggest-selling country album this week is the Duck The Halls ompilation from Duck Dynasty’s A Robertson Family Christmas. That album is now officially entering a mark where it will definitely be Gold-certified (it’s less than 30k away) and could actually en uo being Platinum-certified by the RIAA. Luke Bryan’s Crash My Party is #3 with sales now at 1.352 million sold. Sitting at #4 is Jake Onwe’s Days Of Gold with sale sof 40k while Florida Georgia Line rounds out the Top 5 with Here’s To The Good Times (This Is How We Roll) album now at 1.375 million sold.
Blake Shelton’s “Cheers, It’s Christmas” and “Based On A True Story” lead way; Lady Antebellum Places 2 albums inside Top 10.

There’s a lot to like about this weeks’ chart if you’re Blake Shelton and Lady Antebellum. Both artists take up two slots of the #6-#10 spaces on this week’s rundown with Cheers, It’s Christmas, which is certified Gold by the RIAA for 500k units sold. Blake’s Platinum-selling ACA Album of the Year winner (Joining the CMA and maybe ACM in 2014) Based On A True Story… is #7 while Lady Antebellum’s Gold-selling On This Winter’s Night is #7. Taylor Swift’s 4x Certified Platinum RED is now at 3.9 million in sales and sits at #9 with Lady Antebellum’s nearly Gold Golden (Deluxe) sitting at #10.

Danielle Bradbery’s two-week old self-titled album continues to sell at a steady pace while Scotty McCreery’s latest See You Tonight is next with sales now at 137k copies sold while Scotty’s Christmas With Scotty has now sold 375k to date (and is certified Gold by the RIAA as well). Trace Adkins’ new The King’s Gift continues to gain sales momentum and feels like it may end up a timeless and treasured classic.

Hunter Hayes’ self-titled album (including the 2013 ENCORE! edition) is next in our rundown and has moved more than 1.04 million units to date (and is certified Platinum). Finally, Kelly Clarkson’s Wrapped In Red moved another 112k this week to bring sales to 442k and getting it close to Duck The Halls in terms of which album will lead the Christmas album sales of this year. Kellie Pickler's latest returns to our rundown after a week away and has sold 32k to date. Finally, The soundtrack to Carrie Underwood’s starring The Sound Of Music TV special has debuted in the Top 20 of all genres with 38k in sales. Next week, we’ll see if Krystal Keith, Nashville Season 2, Volume 1 and Zac Brown Band’s The Grohl Sessions EP can place on our rundown. Until then, happy shopping!

Catalog album sales are way down. Has anyone noticed that Amazon doesn't do those deep discounts too much anymore? For a while, a different catalog album would shoot into the Top 10.

Current albums sales were only down 3% at one point. That's good news.

Chart Moves: Boston Returns to Charts, Daft Punk's Biggest Selling Album

This week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, Garth Brooks logged his ninth No. 1 album with his new box set "Blame It All On My Roots," while Britney Spears collected her ninth top 10 with "Britney Jean." Brooks' box sold 146,000 copies in the week ending Dec. 8, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "Britney Jean" bowed with 107,000.

As usual, there were a number of movers and shakers outside the top 10 on the Billboard 200 this week. Let's take a look at some of them:

-- Boston, "Life Love & Hope" - No. 37 - It's the act's first new entry since 2002's "Corporate America" debuted and peaked at No. 42. The new album is also Boston's highest-charting set since 1994's "Walk On" entered and peaked at No. 7. This is the sixth studio effort for Boston, which saw its self-titled debut hit No. 3 in 1976.

-- Various Artists, "ONXRT: Live From the Archives 15" - No. 62 - The annual charity collection, from WXRT in Chicago, starts with 11,000. (It was available exclusively at Chicago-area Targets and Target.com). Last year's debuted and peaked at No. 63 (12,000). This year's set includes in-studio recordings from Blondie, Jimmy Cliff (from 1978), Phoenix and more.


-- Celtic Woman, "Home for Christmas" - No. 86 - PBS' concert special "Home for Christmas" began airing on Nov. 30, which is the likely driver behind the 59% gain for the album this week (and its re-entry at No. 86). The vocal act is also on tour, with dates scheduled through Dec. 22 in the U.S.

-- Johnny Mathis, "Sending You a Little Christmas" - No. 80 - The legendary vocalist (and favorite around the holidays) rises to his highest rank on the chart since 1978 with his new holiday album. (It jumps 178-80.) He last charted higher with that year's No. 19-peaking "That's What Friends Are For" (with Deniece Williams).

-- Soundtrack, "Glee, the Music: The Christmas Album Volume 4" - No. 105 - Combined, the three previous "Glee" Christmas albums have sold 1.5 million (with 1.1 million of that from the first release in 2010). The new set, which debuts at No. 105 with 7,000 sold, is six-songs long, whereas the previous efforts were all full-length affairs and reached the top 20.

-- Daft Punk, "Random Access Memories" - No. 147 - A week ago, "Random Access Memories surpassed Discovery to become Daft Punk's biggest-selling album. (846,000 vs. 836,000.) "Random" now ranks as the No. 23 largest-selling dance/electronic album of the Nielsen SoundScan era (1991-present). "Discovery" is the No. 26 largest.

CDs comprise roughly 56% of album sales YTD. Digital hasn't made much in the way of gains this year to compensate for the continued CD decline, though. Vinyl continues creeping up.
