Aguilera connects with roots on Ecuador hunger relief trip NEW YORK (AP) — Christina Aguilera has visited Haiti, Rwanda and Guatemala on relief effort trips, but last week in Ecuador she not only offered support to struggling and hungry children — she also connected with her roots. Aguilera's father is from Ecuador. The trip marked the first time the 34-year-old singer, who was born in New York, had visited the country. "This particular trip was sort of extra-special for me because it is my blood and heritage. My father was born in Ecuador and my grandfather was born in Quito, which is the city I stayed in. And we would drive out in the fields which were hours away by car and into the farmland and sort of refugee areas where people are struggling," Aguilera said in an interview with The Associated Press on Monday. "This was a really interesting and raw way to go about it. It wasn't like I vacationed there in one of the more beautiful spots such as Galapagos Islands or things like that. I went into the fields and got to meet the women and children there who are really trying to survive," she said. Aguilera has been a volunteer global spokesperson for Yum! Brands' World Hunger Relief since 2009. She has visited Rwanda, Haiti and Guatemala. She chose to visit Ecuador this year from a list provided to her, Aguilera said. "I definitely had always wanted to go visit where my dad comes from, the culture, you know, not having sort of a consistent relationship at all in my life with him and not really knowing him as I've gotten older through the years as well. You know, there's a history there. But, you know, it is a part of my blood and a part of my heritage and a part of my people," she said. "And I would look at the faces and I would sort of ... sometimes feel like I saw a resemblance. I think it's important and I think it's good to know where you come from and sort of get to know your roots." Aguilera said "it felt that much better to me that I was in a place that I felt so connected to and was able to give back to." She's filmed a public service announcement to raise hunger awareness that will be released next month. Yum! Brands Inc., the parent company of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and KFC, said its eight-year-old World Hunger Relief initiative has raised $600 million in cash and food for the United Nations' World Food Programme and other organizations. Her trip included visiting schools and providing lunch for children who have to travel far to get to school. "It takes these kids 45 minutes walking by themselves, alone, up a hill," she said. "It's really hard for these kids and I couldn't wait to come back and tell my own kids these stories to ... better appreciate what they have," the mother of two said. "These kids, they just were the most well-mannered, sweet-natured, little kids." ___ Online: hungertohope.com/www.christinaaguilera.com/us/home

http://instagram.com/p/8XAJ2-AtwL I'm looking forward to hearing what she and Da Internz are cooking up, but I hope she's upgraded the equipment in her home studio. Most of "Bionic" and "Lotus" were recorded there, and you can tell.

Live >> Studio. "Lotus" on the other hand...I cannot handle anymore Lotus/We Remain/Nashville-Style cheap-ass tin-can production this time. This bitch can afford the producers in town, and when she puts her mind to it, she can serve great vocals (her lower register is still beautiful). That said, the only song I've enjoyed from her recently is "Anywhere But Here." She can (and needs) to deliver in all aspects this time, even if she flops. I'm probably going to be harder on her until she delivers new music, because I need her to stop wasting that potential.

Album out next spring...
Yoga Serving as Inspiration for Aguilera's New Music
Yoga is serving as inspiration for Christina Aguilera's upcoming album.
The pop star says that the physical and mental exercise is helping her find inner peace, and that's influencing her music-making process.
"Taking a love for yoga and breathing ... not looking at it as an exercise, but just feeling more one with the Earth and everyone being connected, it'll definitely have a reflection on the new record," Aguilera said in a recent interview.
She has "loosely been working on my record for a couple years now," even when she was pregnant with her daughter, who is 1.
And now, "it's like really down to business and I've made a lot of headway and progress on the record, and you will see sort of the difference between this record and others in the past."
Aguilera, 34, said she wants to release a new album next year. It would be the follow-up to 2012's "Lotus."
"I am hoping for it to be next year and maybe around the time ... I return for (live episodes of) 'The Voice' season 10," she said.
This month she is pre-taping the beginning of season 10 of NBC's "The Voice," which will air next year. Season nine, with Gwen Stefani in Aguilera's chair, premiered last month.
The Grammy winner said because two seasons of the show tape simultaneously, she has had to take breaks from the Emmy-winning series.
"I absolutely need those breaks," she said, laughing. "I will wholeheartedly, openly be honest about it and just say that. I think it's a little easier for Blake (Shelton) and Adam (Levine) — the show has definitely catapulted their careers to new heights and it's awesome — but they're not parents yet. ...I love being a mom and I think life is all about balance and to me it's really important to take time off from the show."
"It also keeps things fresh," she continued. "They pump it out twice a year so for me personally, I feel like I'm better at my position on the show and being a coach to people if I'm not juggling two teams at once while one season is being pre-taped and the other's airing ... which is what ends up happening."
Aguilera says she's been keeping her big voice intact in between albums and tours, and she's learned to care less about being a technical singer and has learned to develop a "signature style."
"Maybe when I was younger and very green ... to the business and just wanting to emulate my idols, I would try probably harder to cross T's and dot I's and hit certain notes," she said. "But music is such an emotion to me and it's so felt from the heart, that at this point in my life it's really not about the image of a great singer, but the emotion of a great singer."

She's been reiterating this exact sentence since 2002. Not simply the thought or the subject, but the very sentence. I really REALLY hope she doesn't use the same equipment she used for Lotus.

An album in 2016 would be great. Agreed to the statements of Lotus' mixing being tragic. Bionic, to me, sounded really smooth production and mixing wise though. It actually sounded pristine in terms of sound; her vocals were clear and the production was perfectly handled in conjunction to her voice. Meanwhile LOTUS on the otherhand... on some songs I literally cannot listen because her vocals and the production are both so loud and muffled I want to rip my ears off. "Light Up the Sky" for example is an amazing track melodically and I guess lyrically but the way it just sounds is disgusting.

According to her she needs to live life so she can come back reinspired again. She's always taking these 4 year breaks, promote for a week, then disappear when sales don't catch on. It's sad really.

That really is the story of Lotus era. At least during Bionic she gave us an incredible VH1 Storytellers special. Hopefully with a snatched body and material in the bag she will be ready for album 6 when The Voice swings around this spring. In the end it was smart of her to hold off from releasing right now because it is jammed packed. A debut right when the live shows premiere will be the perfect opportunity. I need a Spring/Summer smash from her. I'm just grateful that she actually has her ass in the studio so something is on the horizon, no matter how far that is. I'm ready for this "Cavier Ratchet."

Yeah I'm ready to be slayed vocally. It'll be interesting going toe to toe with Adele in the spring. Can't remember the last time two vocal peers have gone head to head. Anyway I need a pussy pop from her and I need it bad. With that said I'd prefer if she came out with an R&B/pop midtempo as a first single. All of her first singles have been high energy and it'll be cool if she toned down her vocals and rode the beat.

The uptempo to ballad 1-2 punch is tired already and is expected from people. Her ballads are more acclaimed, and successful, so she should play that up this era.

Happy birthday to this flawless, iconic, perfect coming of age masterpiece. Today's young divas could literally never. :'( Seriously, this album never gets old, and I find I've only enjoyed it more as the years have passed. She had the perfect mix of songs on this album, and there are tons of underrated tunes here, too. "Impossible," "Get Mine Get Yours," "Cruz," "The Voice Within," "Infatuation," and I could go on. An incredible, soul-bearing, raw album from start to finish. As much as I (still) like "Beautiful," it's a damn shame that this will likely go down as Christina's biggest classic. It's good and I love that they left the original scratch take on the album, but there are so many other songs that deserve to be remembered over it. "Fighter" holds so many memories for me, and it's still a discography highlight. So many "inspirational" songs now are cliche, carbon copies of each other, but this one has always had something special. The construction, lyrics and the vocals are still incredible. "The Voice Within" is probably her most underrated single ever; an absolutely gorgeous song, with an impeccable performance to match. Her vocals are just gut wrenching; the "young girl don't cry I'll be right here when your world starts to fall" right after the explosive bridge still gives me chills. Sublime album.
