EDIT: What mkarns said (beat me by seconds ). It's worth noting that that song was Tracy's debut, as well.

Interesting...how can you tell? Also, can you tell me what quality Rick.com streams? I do know that the IHeart quality has always been worse than his site. I record the audio at both sites and Rick's always sounds better. Thanks. I'm not the one to ask. upland1425? Yes, I should. I listen to this stream with foobar2000, which now indicates AAC stream with 48 kbps bitrare and 44100 Hz sampling frequency. I do not know the current stream specifications of Rick Dees website. It used to be 128 kbps MP3, though.

I, immediately, thought of Alanis Morissette when I heard this. A quick check of her Allmusic page tells me that "Ironic" topped the Alternative chart in 1996 so I'm assuming she would the last solo woman to do so. In June 1996, a few months after "Ironic", Tracy Bonham hit #1 on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart with "Mother Mother". Tracy was the last solo woman to do so until Lorde. "Mother Mother"...I forgot about that song (and I listened to a lot of Alternative during my college years)...I stand corrected. :)

Disappointed not to hear "Troublemaker" and "Alive" on the countdown, I was pretty sure they'd make it in the last few songs. Even if they're not on the countdown, one or both could be played as extras next weekend. There were 10 this weekend.

New show is on Wednesday morning, Jan. 1 at 6 a.m. EST. As in past years, it's a repeat of the top 40 of the year but with (some) different commentary and with different extras.

I guess hoping they'd kill one of the holiday weeks was too good to be true. If you're going to take two holiday weeks and you can't do a longer year-end countdown, could you put some effort into doing something...ANYTHING...different for the second week? Could you post the extras?

Those "past years" were only 2010-12; AT40 from 1998-2009 usually counted down a full top 100 for two weeks. The exception was 1999, when there was only a one week top 50 plus a decade end countdown (in 2009, there was a decade end countdown after a two week top 100, thus making three weeks without a regular weekly show.) At the top of the chart, it seems that "The Monster" is semi-screwed out of additional weeks at #1, as from Mediabase it would definitely have been at #1 this week, and probably last week, if regular shows had been aired. Given the tradition of "frozen" charts, I guess "Demons" gets a default two extra weeks on top. However, "The Monster" should get at least one week, and quite possibly more, at #1 when regular countdowns resume next week. (Interesting times atop the charts, with monsters and demons following a wrecking ball.) ;)

The only thing different is the extras and commentary. I know they will never go back to the Top 100 of the year, but they need to do something for that second week, besides replaying the same chart.

Something that occurred to me...with this weekend being the second version of the 2013 year-end show, the week that will now kick off 2014 (in terms of "new" charts) will also happen to be the 10-year mark for the Seacrest Era. Wonder if they'd planned it that way all along and will be doing something to mark the occasion next week?

Well the repeat of the Top 40 of 2013 puts AT40 in line with the '70s and '80s shows which air Part Two of 1975 and 1981 respectively.
Still wish they would only air the Top 40 year-ending show just once. We've all accepted they'll never do a Top 100 show again but airing pretty much the same show twice?!?

I hope they get these start times back under control, soon. Kicking off the show at quarter of 11 EST on a work night just doesn't cut it (I gots to sleep). Fortunately, there's no pressing need to listen, this week.

Missing Extras
Nikki Williams - Glowing (after #25) Olly Murs featuring Flo Rida - Troublemaker (after #11)
Don't have the final op extra since iHeartRadio cut off the song at the start of "Thrift Shop"

Majid Jordan.

It's interesting that so many people focus on the extra's that these countdown shows play. I keep wondering why.

It's interesting that so many people focus on the extra's that these countdown shows play. I keep wondering why. My reason is because I tape music from the show, so I need to know what order they are played, so I can plan, ahead of time, which ones I will tape and which ones I won't tape.

What I'm curious to know is this year marks Seacrest's 10th anniversary as AT40 host. I wonder how many AT40 regular/HAC shows has anybody collected over the years? I have just about every regular/HAC show dating to early 2011 at least. A few scattered others too.

This week the extras are more important because the countdown is exactly the same as last week. I wish everyone a happy new year. See you all in about a week. You would think they would have a significant ratings drop for the second week's show each year. I won't be listening. This video summarizes my thoughts about this week's show: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kgYquX6H8g

iHeartRadio is counting down the show at #27 as of 7:45 pm EST. So, it is about 2 hous 30 minutes behind of the regular schedule.

I took the liberty of moving the newer posts into this thread. No sense in having two threads for this. :)

You would think they would have a significant ratings drop for the second week's show each year. I won't Yeah, but I'd guess that about 75% of the people listened don't even keep track of the chart itself... they just listen for the music. That's also likely why they scrapped doing a Top 100. The average CHR listener doesn't give a crap about a random song that would have ranked #97 for the year. They want to hear Thrift Shop, Roar and Blurred Lines.

January 4th is new show. Why no new thread? Well, it's a new show in the sense that there is different commentary and extras. But, it's the same chart as last week...top 40 of 2013. No sense in having a second thread for that.

I did listen for a few minutes and got bored, but they played The Best Song Ever by The Ready Set before #12.

"Best Song Ever" is by One Direction. And there was no intro and outro by Ryan for it, just the "AT40 Extra" jingle at the beginning of it.

^ It's obvious that he meant The Ready Set "Give Me Your Hand (Best Song Ever")
