I have officially revised my hopes for the next era: it needs to be huge so that she's a big enough draw to have some bigger names and get this event televised/memorialized on DVD next year. What a wonderful cause--she made really wonderful videos for the charities she supported--and she sounds great.

How much money was raised? An article today said they raised $200,000 from ticket sales and merchandise, as well as the text-to-donate campaign that ran throughout the evening. Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood announced that they would match that, bringing the total amount of money raised to $400,000. While obviously an extremely great number, I cannot imagine how much more could be raised next year if they televise the concert and have numbers plastered across the screen, phone banks with celebrities answering, and everything else like that.

'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas': I love that at around 2:35 (to like 3:05ish) her backup singer shakes her head as if she can't even believe Kelly hits that high note and is just in awe. :') This show seemed like so much fun and all for a great cause. Kelly looked and sounded great!

^^ Welcome back, ƒreakshow! I'm also gonna need a HQ version as well, so please post if you find one ! I'm holding out for 'O Holy Night' before I officially retire tonight. I think I may have posted more in this thread in the past 2 hours than since this thread's birth. I haven't gone anywhere, just haven't had much to say.

Kelly bawling about Garth/Trisha matching the donations and full 'All I Want for Christmas' by Kelly + her backup singers- 'twas the final song of the night: The best head voice in the business and that falsetto at 4:15 :o !! Look no further than 1:39-1:47, and be amazed by that gorgeous tone. it reminds me of Whitney's head voice :o I havent heard it sung like tha from anyone not named M.C. aka Mother Christmas. My favorite Christmas song being sung with delicate touch and beauty. For a moment my spirit came out of my body and i watched it rise!

I know they pulled this off in about 2 months or so, but there is no reason this shouldn't be on TV Thanksgiving weekend next year. There isn't a televised charity event this time of year, which is actually crazy to think about. She is perfect for this kind of event, and just pulling it off with this lineup on short notice is impressive. Narvel better be on the phone with every network for next year. This could be huge.

So it turns out Madonna is a hater too, gosh. Someone once said this to me but it applies to Madonna more ""You have a highly-developed sense of self Now we just need to develop your sense of everybody else and you might become quite likeable"

She looks like she's the same size she's been since giving birth. So I wouldn't say she's "gotten" big, she just hasn't lost the baby weight.
She looks great (hair/styling). I agree with getonthebus, the WIR look is perfection. Also, that snap of her and River might be my most favorite picture of her ever.

Kelly works for months to put on a charity show and truly sings her heart out. She's beautiful no matter what her size.

Wow, this looked so amazing! I can only imagine how much better will be next year! Also I hope Kelly and Haley Williams made plans for a duet.

I love Kelly's jazzy take on this classic (of course, she changes the melody a tiny bit and throws in some extra head voice because she can):
After seeing these performances, I've been resurrected out of my "stagnancy", as a fan, and am feeling suddenly rather inspired about the new era, which I hope manages to capture her live voice unadulterated on the new record and also manages to give her a plethora of live performance opportunities. Perhaps the paucity of KC performances in 2014 juxtaposed with her peers makes me feel this way, but I can not get over just how effortless her vocal delivery is- it's just sick !

Her interpretations have never been stronger. I still maintain that while, yes, of course her vocal dexterity and technique have improved over time, it's really her musical instincts and ear that have strengthened. I think there are still some pitch problems-- probably from being out of practice-- but her effortless reinterpretations of these songs are just stunning. I'm so excited for this upcoming album! Her descriptions of it sound a bit too "Stronger 2.0", but I'm hopeful that her recent artistic reinvigoration (WIR) will continue!

Lots of people who have seen her live that I know have said she sounds "shouty" and forced vocal they were not pleased. A few but the few clips over the years i watched from her live, I havent heard that. I never seen a whole clip of a full show but she sounds clear and smooth in all the clips i have seen.

Coco, i don't know where they get the forced shouty part from. Maybe during the Breakaway era when she was doing back to back shows for months that could have happened, but not for years, imo.

Yeah I've never once thought she sounded shouty in concert (I first saw her on the Addicted tour). Powerful, on the other hand...

"Wrapped in Red" as a song has never really been my favourite, but she absolutely slayed it at the concert and made me a believer.

I think it just sunk in that we could be just 2 weeks away from a new Kelly Clarkson single! I'm all for Stronger 2.0 as well! I'm so pumped for this! I pray those Max Martin rumors are true. They can do no wrong!

A few but the few clips over the years i watched from her live, I havent heard that. I never seen a whole clip of a full show but she sounds clear and smooth in all the clips i have seen. First thing I was going to ask was when they saw her...this is a guess only based on your own casual keeping up with her but I would guess your friends aren't diehard Kelly fans either, which makes me think they saw her during the Breakaway era (i.e. her most successful era, both in sales and touring). She could get pretty shouty then, and she didn't quite have the nuance that she does now...some people's favorite performances from that era aren't mine entirely because I can hear the difference when compared to her most recent performances of those same songs, and it's hard to get past it. (This goes with what bb said, her ear and interpretive skills are just so much better now; but I also think she wasn't using proper technique when she was sick or tired, and forcing herself through performances.) But she has been on 10 ever since the AIEW tour. She actually improves with each era now...it's almost frightening.

This "Silver Bells" performance is absolutely incredible. She has 3 truly gifted back ground vocalists with her. This is chill inducing from beginning to end.

Thanks for posting, Focus. Kelly really enjoyed playing background singer to her own background singers, LOL, by adding her own riffs and adlibs to an already incredible performance. I listened just now to that performance as well as the gospel acapella performance of 'Oh Holy Night' below in my car in full surround sound, and I am quite simply floored. This is yet another vocal masterclass using various textures of her voice as well as those previously aforementioned well-honed interpretive skills. She continues to be the vocal gold standard from which any other mainstream artist should be compared, in my opinion. youtu.be/wMYWXNh14DI

I wonder if she'll keep the male backup singer. His voice adds such an interesting texture to the harmonies, but it probably wouldn't fit as well on her more pop material. :/
