I really don't find anything horrific per se but this song just ain't it and Usher I need you to get it together for this album. Yeah, it's not bad from an overall standpoint. Just a personal one. I'm someone who changed the station each and every time "Happy" or "Blurred Lines" came on. This is that style that I personally have no use for. And why is Usher doing someone else's damn style? He always excelled when he was the one leading the way with fresh musical territory.

I don't think there is a more polarizing figure on the male side of R&B music .. While I get some people being lukewarm on the song I can tell you this is a lot better than the "Scream" and "Numb" eras from L4M. At least in my opinion.

Better as a song? No. As for the polarizing thing, I love R&B Usher and I love Pop Usher. I'd listen to either happily as long as it's GOOD. I just can't see the appeal in this. And ugh, that verse delivery all synched to the beat chop is so jarring.

I still think his forthcoming album will be good.. I hope JD and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis make an appearance on this album.

And why is Usher doing someone else's damn style? He always excelled when he was the one leading the way with fresh musical territory. allow me to play devil's advocate just a bit - this isn't really someone else's style. Usher has already done stuff in this vein before, in fact the production could easily be an outtake from 8701 - I see why he found it appropriate to bring the old U chain back out - and "Bad Girl," anyone? i wouldn't blink twice if someone told me this had been picked up off the Confessions cutting room floor. even if people don't like it, i'm hopeful they recognize that Usher is dipping in his own well b/c it will really annoy me if he's accused of copying other people. sure, 'copying' in that he is jumping on the time-machine train but at least he's sticking firmly to his own musical timeline. (edit: the more i listen to this the more apparent is that this really wouldn't have been out of place on any of his previous albums, apart from Usher.) the issue, as you and a few others have mentioned, is that this was a style that he usually left as an album cut while the tracks with fuller production got released. i personally like this as a song but i am uncertain about how i feel about it as a single, especially a lead that presumably will be going to all formats. all that being said i am just so relieved that this doesn't sound like a Jason Derulo track (like the teasers kind of led us to think it would) that i just don't have it in me to complain about it. i'm optimistic that it will do well on urban/rhythmic, but CHR, hmmm...BL and "Happy" had a certain light-bop feel to them as well as more pop-accessible lyrics, so i'm not sure how pop fans will receive this.

To me it's just another prove that listening to snippets isn't good. I was really pleasantly surprised after the first teaser, didn't listen to the second one since the opinions were mixed and I didn't wanna ruin my first impression. He should release much stronger lead after an album that underperformed. It's just weak.

I like it a lot, but it's definitely his weakest lead single ("Pop Ya Collar" aside). I like the chorus way more than the verses.

I'm good I listened to this before reading all the bad comments. I actually LOVE this. His vocals are on point and love the drums. I don't hear any resemblance to BL.

It doesn't warrant having 6 producers on the song. It's alright but the first teaser was the ultimate deception.

This is ok. It's definitely my least favorite lead single from him (barring the debut) though. It does sound like something that could have come out of the 8701 or Confessions sessions, but ultimately stayed as an album track.
It just kinda lacks that extra punch for me. Until now, all of his lead singles have been instant for me, including Papers, which I remember got a tepid response from some here.

Sometimes I read comments and can't help but wonder what song people are listening to. THIS IS HOT AS HELL. The production is so refreshing and so is the arrangement. His vocals are on point. Love the video. Hope this is a big hit for him.

He always excelled when he was the one leading the way with fresh musical territory. allow me to play devil's advocate just a bit - this isn't really someone else's style. Usher has already done stuff in this vein before Oh definitely. Usher is definitely NOT copying anyone else; he's just playing up a trend bandwagon. I'm just saying I'd prefer him to start a new one. My favorite album track on Confessions! I had to listen to "Good Kisser" again to figure out the comparison, and I can now hear it in the percussion of the beat. That aside, I wouldn't naturally connect the two songs personally. "Bad Girl" is such a smooth ride and jam packed with melody. That contrasts the jarring nature of "Good Kisser" found in the pre-chorus in particular. On the plus, he sounds incredible during his ad lib belting run towards the end. I still don't like this even giving it a night's sleep to sink into my mind. And apart from Just Blaze, I've yet to see anyone come and say they LOVE this. It ranges from liking (Cynthia, Mario, Jazzy) to toleration to dislike so far. I still hope this can smash just because come on, if JT can still ride lukewarm shit to the charts than its only right that his muse Usher be given that same treatment.

Its catchy. It does not wow me. It is much better than "Papers". I mean after "Climax", it is really hard to top that (it is a masterpiece). I think the production could use some more work, probably need a change in pace in it (I know there is one, but a very noticeable one would be perfect, speed it up during the chorus more). I still get 8701 vibe with this than anything else. I think it will grow on people. Its not defensive, but its cute though.

The video sealed this for me. I love it now. Usher drumming half naked and referencing cunniligus with his mouth? Sold!

The chorus is hot but the verses really drag it down; it's okay overall.

It took me four spins to like this song. It's hotter than what's on the radio.
@antigonerising I thought I was the only one who thought "Bad Girl" when I listened to it. It wouldn't seem out of place if it was included on Confessions.

Shall we rank the lead singles?
1. "Climax" 2. "You Make Me Wanna..." 3. "Yeah!" 4. "Love In This Club" 5. "U Remind Me" ("DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love")
^ All of the above are A-level. Then a significant drop imo.
6. "Good Kisser" 7. "Papers" 8. "Can U Get It"
These three are all C level imo.

For some reason, listening to this-- and it's such a weird parallel-- but all I could think of was Will Smith. It's cute, but he's had much better.
