I forgot about "Something's Gotta Give." Definitely one of her best.
Interesting bit of trivia that she went almost a decade in between #1 hits. How rare is that?

The three longest gaps between #1s are: 20 years for Elvis Presley between 1957's Jailhouse Rock to 1977's Moody Blue 18 years for Alabama between 1993's Reckless to 2011's Old Alabama with Brad Paisley 16 years for Buck Owens between 1972's Made In Japan to 1988's Streets Of Bakersfield with Dwight Yoakam

Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Jeff Bates Single: "One Second Chance" Writers: Arlis Albritton, Chris DuBois, Dave Turnbull Album: Leave The Light On Label: RCA Nashville Video Director: Deaton-Flanigen Year Released: May, 2006 Radio And Records Peak: #47 Billboard Peak: #59
"One Second Chance" was the third single from Jeff Bates' sophomore album Leave The Light On. After Jeff had a debut top 10 with "The Love Song" (#8), he followed up with "Rainbow Man" (#47), "I Wanna Make You Cry" (#23), and "Long Slow Kisses" (#12 on R&R). "Good People" was the lead for this album in the summer of 2005. Unfortunately the song would only peak at #37 on R&R. The next single "No Shame" would only get to #40 in early 2006. "One Second Chance" would be the final single from the album and the final single on RCA, as he was dropped not long after. Jeff would release a few more singles from Black River Entertainment including two that almost charted with "Don't Hate Me For Loving You", and "Riverbank". He recently has made three albums for Skydancer Entertainment (The Songwriter Series, Me And Conway, and Once Upon A Star).
This song is autobiographical for Jeff even though he did not write it. Rather than going into why this song is personal to him, I think the intro by Jeff would suffice enough. Certainly one of my favorites of 2006, and one of my favorites of Jeff's catalog. He's one of my artists that I feel should have been much bigger than he was (Carolina Rain, Blaine Larsen, Katrina Elam being among the others).
This is one of the widest margins of Radio And Records peak and Billboard peak's I've ever seen. A 12 spot difference is pretty unbelievable. Though the two factors were probably the lower audience numbers that "One Second Chance" had compared to other songs around it during it's chart run (Mediabase factors in spins and station support in it's point system which is why it had higher place on R&R than Billboard). The other reason was the fact that songs had to be below the top 15 on Billboard back then to be sent recurrent. Here was the R&R chart the week that "One Second Chance" peaked in June of 2006.
Week Ending: 6/15/2006
40. Faith Hill - Sunshine And Summertime 41. Gary Nichols - Unbroken Ground 42. Lost Trailers - Call Me Crazy 43. Rio Grand - Kill Me Now 44. Rockie Lynne - Do We Still 45. Jack Ingram - Love You 46. Carolina Rain - Get Outta My Way 47. Jeff Bates - One Second Chance 48. Gretchen Wilson - California Girls 49. Darryl Worley - Nothin' But A Love Thang 50. Cross Canadian Ragweed - This Time Around 51. Sammy Kershaw - Tennessee Girl 52. Bomshel - Ain't My Day To Care 53. Chris Cagle - Anywhere But Here 54. Brian McComas - Good Good Lovin' 55. Trent Tomlinson - One Wing In The Fire
It should be noted that "One Second Chance" was 1 point away from being #48 and just 6 points from being #49.

You're on a roll, sabre14. Excellent song that should have been a far bigger hit than it was. Songs like this are what country music is all about to me.

Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Jo Dee Messina Single: "That's The Way" Writers: Annie Roboff, Holly Lamar Album: Burn Label: Curb Video Director: Thom Oliphant Year Released: May 15th, 2000 Radio And Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1
"That's The Way" was the lead single for Jo Dee Messina's Burn album in mid 2000. The song was co-written by singer/songwriter Holly Lamar. She had a record deal with Universal South in 2002 and charted two singles with "These Are The Days" (#51) and "Unkissed" (#59). Some of her writing credits include "Tell Me" and "Niagara" by Sara Evans, "Like A Good Cowboy" by Lonestar, and "Unbroken" by Tim McGraw. The song would be a three week #1 from September 16th through October 7th. It was preceded by "It Must Be Love" by Alan Jackson, and followed by "Kiss This" by Aaron Tippin.
Jo Dee would release four more singles from Burn. The title track would peak at #2, "Downtime" would get to #5, while the other #1 single from the album "Bring On The Rain" would be the fourth release. Curb finished the album with the #23 peaking "Dare To Dream". Jo Dee would only have one more top 10 single after "Bring On The Rain" with "My Give A Damn's Busted" (#1) in 2005. Her last charting single was in 2008 with "I'm Done" (#34). Her latest album entitled Me is off her Dreambound Records and features the singles "Peace Sign" and "A Woman's Rant".
This song brings me back to being an 11 year old kid again. It always seemed to be on when I was driving in my Dad's car. Jo Dee was certainly one of the artists that was part of my childhood.

Oh, I'm sorry, I got so excited that I have been looking for this song for YEARS, one of the overlooked songs of 1997. Should've been a bigger hit, I remember seeing this on TNN on Video Morning at times when I was home from school on snow days. Man those were good times. I was 14 at the time (1997)

I've done so many of these things, I'm surprised I haven't duplicated one yet. Certainly a great song that I was turned on to recently by a fellow poster. I was only 7 or 8 in 1997 so unfortunately that was a time when I didn't know most of the artists names who sang the songs on the radio. I remember though staying up during the summertime when I was probably 13 or 14 till 3 or 4 in the morning to listen to the radio cause I figured out they would play all the lower charting songs late at night like "What A Shame" by Rebecca Lynn Howard. I love those great memories. You don't realize it till it's gone though...

I listen to this song from 1997 vs 2014 music and all I have to say is WOW, this is so different today, this was country while today's music is more trash then good masterpiece stuff. 90s Country will always be my favorite as I have 1,000 songs of it on my iPod!!!! I have all 260 #1 hits that hit #1 on Billboard from 1990-1999 on my iPod. Country Music started to go downhill in 2004 when Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Cowboy Troy came onto the scene. The last good year in Country Music to me would have to be 2003 as some of my favorite songs were topping the charts like "Red Dirt Road" by Brooks & Dunn, "Brokenheartsville" by Joe Nichols, "Man To Man" by Gary Allan, and one more Alan Jackson/Jimmy Buffett with "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" Alone that I have all 218 #1 hits that hit #1 on Billboard from 2000-2009. I listen to all the hits and you start to know the difference in quality over the next few years. I miss the TRUE Country Music and I think sadly you have to go back to the years of when I was in Middle school and that was around 20 years ago almost.

Random Videos Of The Day:
Artist: Collin Raye Single: "Little Red Rodeo" Writers: Phil Vassar, Charlie Black, Rory Michael Bourke Album: The Best Of Collin Raye: Direct Hits Label: Epic Nashville Year Released: December 8th, 1997 Billboard Peak: #3
Artist: Collin Raye Single: "Anyone Else" Writers: Radney Foster Album: The Walls Came Down Label: Epic Nashville Video Director: Chris Rogers Year Released: January 25th, 1999 Billboard Peak: #4
Collin Raye is a 53 year old singer from De Queen, Arkansas. His birth name is Floyd Elliot Wray. He started out in a band with his brother Scott under the name The Wray Brothers. Floyd would be known as Bubba Raye at this point and they signed to Mercury in 1986 but failed to have any successful singles and were dropped. Floyd would change his name to Collin Raye when he was signed in 1990 to Epic Nashville. His debut single was "All I Can Be (Is A Sweet Memory)" in 1990 (#29). His second single would prove to not only be his breakthrough hit but one of his signature songs with "Love Me" (#1). The song was off his All I Can Be album in 1991. Collin would start an unbelievable run of 14 consecutive top 10 singles and 20 of his next 22 singles would be top 10 singles as well. Some of these include "In This Life" (#1), "That's My Story" (#6), "Little Rock" (#2), "My Kind Of Girl" (#1), "One Boy, One Girl" (#2), "On The Verge" (#2), and "Little Red Rodeo" (#3).
After leaving Epic after his Can't Back Down album, he tried many times to get a comeback hit but never succeeded. His final top 50 single was "Ain't Nobody Gonna Take That From Me" (#43). His final charting single was in 2007 with "A Soldier's Prayer" (#59). In all Collin has had 4 chart toppers and 21 top 10 singles in his career.
Decided to take one of my favorites ("Little Red Rodeo"), and one of his hits I haven't heard in forever ("Anyone Else"). I get crazy flashbacks to being little hearing both of these songs. My other favorites include "I Can Still Feel You" (I loved this when I was a kid), "Little Rock", "Love Me", and "I Think About You". I was driving home this afternoon and heard "Anyone Else" on Prime Country on Sirius/XM, which is why I did Collin today.

Collin Rayes greatest hits collection is probably the first album that I listened to every song on multiple times. Always been a big fan though I've never gotten to see him live. Those 2 songs are awesome choices!

Wow, haven't heard "That's the Way" in some time. Blast from the past! Great tune.
I absolutely love Collin Raye's music. I grew up listening to his songs on the radio and his voice and songs are just magical to me. I love just about all of his singles, with my favorites being "Little Rock", "I Think About You," "On the Verge", "Love Me", "I Can Still Feel You," "Anyone Else", "Little Red Rodeo" - heck, just about all of them are great. I somehow missed that Radney Foster wrote "Anyone Else". Great stuff.

Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Big & Rich Single: "8th Of November" Writers: Big Kenny, John Rich Album: Comin' To Your City Label: Warner Bros. Nashville Video Director: Deaton-Flanigen Year Released: May 26th, 2006 Mediabase Peak: #15 Billboard Peak: #18
"8th Of November" was the third and final single from Big & Rich's sophomore album Comin' To Your City. It was and auto-biographical song about a friend they met in Deadwood, South Dakota named Niles Harris. Harris was a vietnam veteran and served in the 173rd Airborne Brigade. His platoon was ambushed and Niles was one of the few survivors. The operation was called Operation Hump on November 8th, 1965 in South Vietnam. Big & Rich have visited Deadwood, South Dakota many times and call the town a home away from home. Niles Harris is actually the person who gave Big Kenny his signature top hat. The duo has held numerous concerts there and filmed much of their Super Galactic Fan Pack album/DVD there, along with filming their "Big Time" video there as well.
This song is the fifth highest single the duo ever had. "Lost In This Moment" of course went #1, "Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy)" hit #10 on R&R, and "Holy Water" peaked at #12 on R&R. "Big Time was a #16 peak in 2005. I think the reason this couldn't go top 10 was the fact this was charting in the summertime, and many stations didn't want such a powerful, emotional song in heavy rotation. This is without a doubt one of the 3 or 4 best songs they ever wrote and recorded. Here is the entire top 61 Mediabase chart the week that "8th Of November" peaked.

*Emerson Drive and Carolina Rain would both lose over 90 points and their bullets, but managed to rebound to make it to the top 20 and top 25 respectively.
*"Way Back Texas", and "I've Got Friends That Do" were both album cuts. "Way Back Texas" would later be released as the third single from Pat Green's Cannonball album.

Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Pat Green Single: "Baby Doll" Writers: Pat Green, Rob Thomas Album: Lucky Ones Label: Universal/Republic/Mercury Video Director: Tom Campbell Year Released: March 4th, 2005 Radio And Records Peak: #20 Billboard Peak: #21
"Baby Doll" was the final single from Pat Green's Lucky Ones album. It would also be his last from Universal before signing a major Nashville label deal with BNA Records. The song was co-written with Rob Thomas who is best known for the lead singer of Matchbox 20. The music video was part cartoon. It features a cartoon Pat driving his motorcycle down a highway. Pat would on chart the rest of 2005, and it wouldn't be until mid 2006 where he would release his BNA Record debut "Feels Just Like It Should" (#10). His following singles from then on that charted were "Dixie Lullaby" (#24 on Mediabase), "Way Back Texas" (#27 on Mediabase), "Let Me" (#12), "Country Star" (#31 on Mediabase), "What I'm For" (#28) and "All Just To Get To You" (#57). The latter was after he has gone back to Texas and was a good three years (2012) after "What I'm For" peaked.
Another song that WYRK completely ignored. But they ignored much of Pat's music even after he moved to BNA. The only songs of his they added were "Wave On Wave", "Feels Just Like It Should" and "What I'm For". I still think "Country Star" was unrightfully pulled in favor for the overrated "What I'm For", but many here loved it so I'm in the minority. Here's the R&R chart the week that Pat peaked in the summer of 2005.
Week Ending: 6/17/2005
11. Keith Anderson - Pickin' Wildflowers 12. Brad Paisley - Alcohol 13. SHeDaisy - Don't Worry 'Bout A Thing 14. Bobby Pinson - Don't Ask Me How I Know 15. Reba McEntire - My Sister 16. Alan Jackson - The Talkin' Song Repair Blues 17. Brooks & Dunn - Play Something Country 18. Jeff Bates - Long Slow Kisses 19. Van Zant - Help Somebody 20. Pat Green - Baby Doll-------------------- :) 21. Jamie O'Neal - Somebody's Hero 22. Tim McGraw - Do You Want Fries With That 23. Trisha Yearwood - Georgia Rain 24. Trick Pony - It's A Heartache 25. Sara Evans - A Real Fine Place To Start 26. Buddy Jewell - If She Were Any Other Woman 27. LeAnn Rimes - Probably Wouldn't Be This Way 28. Jason Aldean - Hicktown 29. Josh Gracin - Stay With Me (Brass Bed) 30. Montgomery Gentry - Something To Be Proud Of

I usually don't do two videos in one day but I realized that I haven't done this song, yet it's one of my all-time favorites ever in country music for many personal reasons. Plus I'm too bored to wait til later. ;) Artist: Jeff Carson Single: "The Car" Writers: C. Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Brian McComas Single: "99.9% Sure (I've Never Been Here Before)" Writers: Billy Austin, Greg Barnhill Album: Brain McComas Label: Lyric Street Video Director: Brent Hedgecock Year Released: February 24th, 2003 Billboard Peak: #10
"99.9 Sure (I've Never Been Here Before)" was the third career single for Brian McComas in 2003. His first two releases were "Night Disappear With You" (#41), and "I Could Never Love You Enough" (#46). All three songs were off his self-titled debut album. The final single from the album was the much too underrated "You're In My Head" (#21). Unfortunately Brian would not have a single out for much of 2004 and his lead single for a new album entitled "The Middle Of Nowhere" only managed a peak of #43 in early 2005 and he was dropped by Lyric Street after.
He signed with independent Katapult Records in 2006 and released the album Back Up Again. The album featured the singles "Good Good Lovin' (#51 on R&R) which I featured in this thread a couple months back, and "All Comes Fooldin' Down" which was one of my favorites of 2006.
This song brings back memories of 2003 for me and being in the 7th grade. It was a popular song to play for WYRK and Brian was a performer of their Taste Of Country Concert that Summer at Dunn Tire Park (Now Coca-Cola Field). Other performers that year were Amy Dalley and Brett James. Amy was charting with "Love's Got An Attitude (It Is What It Is)" (#27), and Brett was charting with "Chasin' Amy" (#34) and "After All" (#39).

Random Video Of The Day:Artist: Suzy Bogguss Single: "Outbound Plane" Writers: Nanci Griffith, Tom Russell Album: AcesLabel: Liberty/Capitol Nashville Video Director: Deaton-Flanigen Year Released: December, 1991 Billboard Peak: #9 Suzy Bogguss is a singer/songwriter from Aledo, Illinois. She was born December 30th, 1956. Suzy would make a self-made demo in the mid 80's after moving to Nashville and would catch the attention of Capitol Records who signed her in 1987. From 1987 to 1990 Suzy only had one top 40 single with "Cross My Broken Heart" (#14). But she had a string of successful singles starting with the #12 peaking "Someday Soon" in 1991 off her Aces album. She would have 7 of her next 8 singles got top 10 including "Outbound Plane" (#9), "Drive South" (#2), "Just Like The Weather" (#5), and "Hey Cinderella" (#5). Suzy unfortunately would not have another top 30 single and in 1999 was dropped from Capitol after the release of her Nobody Love, Nobody Get Hurt album. The highest charting single she would have was in 1998 with "Somebody To Love" (#33). After her self-titled album in 1999, she recorded four more studio albums including her latest Lucky in 2014 off Loyal Dutchess Records. She also sang with Lee Greenwood on his top 20 single Hopelessly Yours" (#12) in 1991. Along with lending her voice for Michael Martin Murphy's Christmas song "Cowboy Christmas Ball". I noticed the discussion of Suzy by Kanenrá:ke, and tim in the Trisha Top 5/Bottom 5 thread, so I went ahead and highlighted a Suzy video. I remember "Outbound Plane" being played on the all-time favorites weekend when they still did that at WYRK and I've heard her song "Drive South" on their wide open country show which airs on Saturday mornings. My Dad for some reason loving her song with Michael Murphy, "Cowboy Christmas Ball".

There are times when I miss the dance mixes that were somewhat popular in the 90's. Honestly, I just miss 90's country in general...

-"The Car" is as melodramatic and heavy-handed as it gets, but I'll be darned if it doesn't get every me time as well. Much wisdom in that song.
-Tons of nostalgia for "99.9% Sure." Extremely catchy and fun song that always takes me back to '03.
-"Outbound Plane" is amazing. Suzy's easily one of the best '90s artists in my book.

Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Rick Trevino Single: "Separate Ways" Writers: Bill Anderson, Wally Wilson, Jimmy Yeary Album: Whole Town Blue Label: Warner Bros. Nashville Video Director: Peter Zavadil Year Released: January 22nd, 2007 Mediabase Peak: #58 Billboard Peak: #59
Rick Trevino is a 42 year old singer from Austin, Texas. Trevino is a Mexican American. In 1991 a representative of Sony Nashville was stranded due to flooding in Austin and he attended the club where Trevino played and was soon handed a demo for which he took back to Columbia Records. They decided to meet with Rick and signed him. His first record for the label was a Spanish album, though Rick wasn't keen on recording one due to him not being fluid in the language. After that he got to record his first English album and his first single was "Just Enough Rope" (#44). His second single was the Marty Stuart song "Honky Tonk Crowd" (#35). It would be his third single from the album that would break through with "She Can't Say I Didn't Cry" (#3). The final single from his debut English album that was self-titled was "Doctor Time" (#5).
Rick would score four more top 10 singles with "Bobbie Ann Mason" (#6), "Learning As You Go" (#2), "Running Out Of Reasons To Run" (#1), and "I Only Get This Way With You" (#7). He left on bad terms with Sony after asking to be let out of his contract and they refused only to drop him later after the failure of his single "Only Lonely Me" (#52) in 1998. He would record another Spanish album entitled Mi Son off Vanguard Records in 2001. He would then sign to Warner Bros. in 2003 and release the album In My Dreams which featured the title track (#41). "Separate Ways" would be his final charting single in 2007. He featured the song off his Whole Town Blue album in 2011.
"Separate Ways" was one of my favorite singles of 2007 and it's a shame country radio ignored it for the most part. The song was co-written by the great Bill Anderson who has written some of my favorite songs like "I'll Wait For You" by Joe Nichols, "Whiskey Lullaby" by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss, and "Give It Away" by George Strait.

Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Toby Keith Single: "You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This" Writers: Toby Keith Album: How Do You Like Me Now?! Label: DreamWorks Nashville Video Director: Michael Salomon Year Released: October 16th, 2000 Radio And Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1
"You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This" was the fourth and final single from Toby's album How Do You Like Me Now?! The song followed his top 5 single "Country Come To Town" (#4), from which I have almost no memory of hearing for some reason. The follow up was his lead for the album Pull My Chain in 2001 called "I'm Just Talking About Tonight" (#1). The song would hit #1 in March of 2001 (1 week), and finish the year #4 on Billboard's year end chart. It replaced "But For The Grace Of God" by Keith Urban at #1, and was replaced at the top by "One More Day" by Diamond Rio.
Toby would have a few of these type of videos back then. The ending of this video is a quick flashback to reality for the the main character. The same formula was used in his "Whiskey Girl" video in 2004. "You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This" would start a string of #1 singles for Toby. In fact 9 of the next 10 singles would hit the top spot with the lone exception being "Rock You Baby" (#11 on R&R). The main reason for that though was the fact that DreamWorks decided to rush out "Beer For My Horses" to radio and prematurely pull "Rock You Baby".
This is easily one of my all-time favorite Toby songs. Over the years I've grown to enjoy it even more due to life experience. Also brings back some nostalgia of the year 2001 for me, especially that summer when WYRK had this song as a heavy recurrent.

^ Lol, I did "Dark Horse" back in February. It's on page 12. Great song though. Good selection! Oh, I'm sorry, I got so excited that I have been looking for this song for YEARS, one of the overlooked songs of 1997. Should've been a bigger hit, I remember seeing this on TNN on Video Morning at times when I was home from school on snow days. Man those were good times. I was 14 at the time (1997) Great song to have been duplicated! I could listen to this song over and over again.

For some reason I'm doing one of these late at night. Spur of the moment I guess. :)
Random Single Of The Night
Artist: Gary Allan Single: "Man To Man" Writers: Jamie O'Hara Album: Alright Guy Label: MCA Nashville Producer: Tony Brown, Mark Wright Year Released: September 30th, 2002 Radio And Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1
"Man To Man" was the third and final release from Gary's Alright Guy album. It followed "Man Of Me" (#18), and "The One" (#1 on R&R). The song was written entirely by Jamie O'Hara who was one half of the country duo the O'Kanes with Kieran Kane. They had 5 top 10 singles from 1986 to 1988 including their #1 "Can't Stop My Heart From Loving You". Another song he was famous for writing was The Judds "Grandpa (Tell Me 'Bout The Good Ole Days)".
I would hear this song all the time that 2002-2003 school year when I was in the 7th grade. This I believe makes this at least 4 or 5 Gary songs I've done which is the most but when your someone as talented as Gary it's almost impossible not to have a few of his songs featured. The first release from this album "Man Of Me" is another favorite of mine and one I'll probably do at some point down the road. :)

Random Video of the Overnight (12 a.m. to 6 a.m.) 2. Random Video of the Morning (6 a.m. to 12 p.m.) 3. Random Video of the Afternoon (12 p.m. to 6 p.m.) 4. Random Video of the Night (6 p.m. to 12 a.m.)
