"XO" is getting some play at rhythmic, too- it climbed 34-28* on Billboard's rhythmic chart this week.

The thought of Dark Horse starting a #1 streak and then the video being released in the midst of that...
Pretty unbelievable. A 10+ weeks at #1 suddenly became a lot more plausible.

Two songs are¨probably tough to handle for radio. The same happened with Rihanna, but it didn't work (Right Now and Pour It Up) That's not true; in both cases the dual singles were officially sent to different formats so the singles in question were not even competing with each other, really (not to mention that at least on urban, neither Rihanna nor Beyonce have problems with having multiple singles simultaneously doing well, and both have had other concurrently successful singles at different formats in the past). The issue for RN/PIU and XO/DIL is simply that the designated urban/rhythmic single was stronger for those formats than the designated pop single was for CHR. I love XO but I kind of feel that it wasn't really 'lead' material; it would have been more suitable as a second or third single. If DIL gets an official adds date on CHR pop will probably drop XO pretty quickly.

It's on cool new music on all access.... so the record company probably has already given pop radio the go ahead to play the record.

Why is XO having such small gains (specially when compared to Drunk in Love)? "XO" is getting airplay on pop only. "Drunk in Love" is getting airplay from rhythmic and urban. Hot AC is adding a bit to "XO," but not much. Pop is also slowly picking up "Drunk in Love." Three formats > two formats. But even on streaming XO doesn't seem to be doing that well, right? I believe the video has one third of DIL's views right now. I'm glad DIL is doing so well, I just find it funny because I always assumed XO was the sure hit of the album.

Oh really...what song am I confusing it with Royals maybe...well in that case...I agree then. Well it could have easily gotten 5 weeks at #1 since it was first blocked by Blurred Lines for 2 weeks due to BL's immense radio overplay lol and then Miley's WB took the top spot for 2 weeks, the first of which was justified as it was #1 on digital as well but the second of which should have had Roar back at #1 because it was obvious at this point that most of the YouTube views for WB was because of Miley being naked and not because of the actual song (Harlem Shake all over again) and after that Royals leap frogged Roar as WB slipped down to #3 for 4 weeks so yeah lol, Roar spent 10 weeks total in the top 2 if you think of it that way

I'm glad DIL is doing so well, I just find it funny because I always assumed XO was the sure hit of the album. I'm surprised XO isn't doing better. However, I think some Beyonce fans were just desperate for her to get another pop hit so decided to find what they thought was the poppiest song on the album (i.e. the one that's produced by Ryan Tedder and sounds like Halo) and hype it up as much as they could. XO is a good song, but there's lots of much catchier songs on the album. If her label had stuck with Blow I think it would be higher on the Hot 100 (and rhythmic too). Although it might be bad marketing having two such sexual songs to lead with lol.

Yeah, when Dark Horse reaches #1 it will be there for quite some time.
The landscape is soooooo barren right now of smashes. Both Timber and DH feel like they've been out for a long time, and nothing else is seen on the horizon.

Both Timber and DH feel like they've been out for a long time, and nothing else is seen on the horizon. I honestly think that Dark horse has a strong shot at being the #1 song of the year. The monster doesn't have the longevity and I doubt Timber will as well. I feel like its recurrent play will serve Teenage Dream + Roar style airplay. So glad the public pushed the real hit of the era vs. Undernocondition should this have been a single.

"Dark Horse" is performing spectacularly. Since streaming entered the mix, has a track ranked as high as No. 5 on Streaming Songs without an official video?

"The Monster" reached No.2 on Streaming Songs before the video was released with 6.1 M streams. (Dec.28,2013) The following week , the video came out and it went No.1 (7.6M) (Jan.4,2014) The following weeks are as follows: 1/11/14 - (4.7M) (#5) 1/18/14 - (4.3M) (#6) 1/25/14 - (4.1M) (#8)

"Get Lucky" never had a video, but peaked at #2 on streaming behind "We Can't Stop" IIRC.

It surely would've been #1 for atleast a week. It was always missing that one element. Oh and speaking of GL: PHARRELL WILLIAMS – Happy: 7.486 (+ 1.853) He's coming for that smash. I want this to outpeak Frontin's peak.

That's right, how could I forget "Get Lucky." "The Monster" doesn't look like it benefited all that much from the video.

"The Monster" doesn't look like it benefited all that much from the video. I think a lot of that has to do with it being released so late. The song had so much hype when it was first released, so a video wasn't really going to push up that hype much further. I think once the video came out, people just switched from watching the audio video to the music video rather than a bunch of people discovering the song for the first time through the music video.

Does "Counting Stars" have a shot at #1 this week? If "Dark Horse" doesn't jump it this week, it almost definitely will next week.

The airplay gap is getting smaller. "Timber" has advantage n both sales and streaming. It has peaked last week when it went #2. So sad that this song won't be #1.
