A special expanded 30th anniversary edition of Sheโs So Unusual will be released on April 1, 2014. Cyndi just completed a tour that featured her performing the entire album plus several other signature hits. In addition to the classic album having been remastered for this release, there is some new material in the form of brand new club remixes of of "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" by Yolanda Be Cool (of "We No Speak Americano" and "Le Bump" fame) and "Time After Time" by Nervo (of "When Love Takes Over" and "You're Gonna Love Again" fame) and Bent Collective (a trio comprised of Danny Verde, Guy Scheiman, and Steven Redant that recently remixed singles by Avicii, Lady Gaga, and Melissa Etheridge) will be added to the first disc. Junior Vasquez famously remixed "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" back in the 90s along with the rework of that song as "Hey Now! (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun)". Josh Harris and Eddie Baez both remixed "Time After Time" in 2005 when Cyndi did that special The Body Acoustic concept album which included re-recorded versions of some of her songs. "Time After Time" was done as a duet with Sarah McLachlan. Sarah's vocals were used on the Josh Harris remixes. Disc 2 includes some demos, b-sides, and an alternate remix that was only previously available on vinyl. Tracklisting: Disc: 1 1. Money Changes Everything 2. Girls Just Want To Have 3. When You Were Mine 4. Time After Time 5. She Bop 6. All Through The Night 7. Witness 8. Iโll Kiss You 9. Heโs So Unusual 10. Yeah Yeah 11. Girls Just Want To Have Fun (2013 Yolanda Be Cool Remix) 12. Right Train, Wrong Track (Non LP B-Side) 7. Witness (Live, Boston, 1984) 8. She Bop (1983 Arthur Baker Remix) 9. Time After Time (Work In Progress Rough Mix) SourcePre-order on iTunes and you can get the Nervo remix of "Time After Time"

Was listening to some vintage Cyndi and browsing articles/chart stats online, and was surprised to see the her only top 10 albums were her first two, and both peaked at #4. "She's So Unusual" only hit #1 in 2 countries listed on Wiki, and in the US it peaked behind Footloose, Lionel Richie and Huey Lewis & The News. This was back when albums usually took months to rise up the chart, and long before accurate/actual sales were scanned. It would be interesting to see if her stuff would have ranked higher with SoundScan in place. But even still, for as big as that era was for her, I assumed it had at least a week at #1 on the album chart. Male dominance was def a thing.
On the bright side, she was the first female with 4 top 5 Hot 100 hits from one album. And she was Billboard's top female pop act of 1984 (ranking 11th behind all males). She found some more success in 86/87 with True Colors, but by then her popularity fell behind that of the other females like Madonna, Whitney and Janet, and her chart presence fizzled out quickly after that. Her most recent Hot 100 entry was in 1989 -- I assumed she had charted at least some minor entries in the 90s. I like some of those singles quite a bit.
I also thought she was more of a songwriter than she was, at least in terms of her hits. She co-wrote "Time After Time," "She Bop," and "Goonies R Good Enough", but the rest of her big hits were written by someone else. The cool thing is they all sound like her songs regardless.
Anyway, I love her and feel like her presence in the 80s, both at the time and in retrospect, supersedes her numbers on the charts. An icon of that decade.

I was looking for a Cyndi Lauper discussion thread, but a found this so i guess this is the one to use. The title perhaps, Disco๐ถ๏ธ๐ , you could please update it? It's from 2014. Anyway, just wanted to see if there are more Cyndi fans here in the forum to talk about her. I've been a fan since 1984 and have seen her several times live.

I read her bio a few years back and it made me a fan. I think sheโs one of the most underrated and under appreciated stars in pop music history.

Her remake of Prince's "When You Were Mine" and "All Through the Night" are still my favourite songs on that album.

Her remake of Prince's "When You Were Mine" and "All Through the Night" are still my favourite songs on that album. Yep, I LOVE those two songs! I fell totally in love with When You Were Mine back in the day and it was the first version I heard of the song. Years later I heard Prince's original version. Big Prince fan here too. So you're a Bosรฉ fan as well I guess? ;)

Spanish is my first language and I live in a Latin American country but I have never been a massive fan of music in Spanish. Whilst in Spain, more than a decade ago, I heard that Miguel Bosรฉ song and I loved it. I also like "Aire Soy," "Nena," and "Si Tu No Vuelves. I take it you're a fan of his?

That's cool, Ernesto. I grew up in Peru, but have lived in the U.S. since 1996. Yeah, that's a cool Miguel song and the other ones you mention too. Yes, I have been a fan of his for decades and have been fortunate enough to see him live in concert 3 times. Recently I don't think we are in sync ideologically speaking, ha ha, but still like his music for now.

Yikes, they've flubbed all of her anniversary editions so badly. Her first two albums especially deserve better.

Man, I would've expected something better than just two extra tracks for a 35th anniversary edition.... Really? She didn't have any demos, remixes of those days, etc? :(

Really? She didn't have any demos, remixes of those days, etc? :( Kazuhiko Gomi who programmed that bonus Junior mix of "True Colors" posted a photo of the master tape with all of the mixes they did at that time and there were at least 5 total mixes (edits, dubs, alt mix). And there have been other new versions and special remixes of that too. I do wonder why more wasn't included.

I remember being disappointed with the 30th anniversary edition. I would have to revisit it since i can't remember why I was disappointed. I think back then I was very please with what Belinda Carlisle had done with her albums that I thought this album was going to get a similar treatment with DVD with videos, etc. But not sure...
