Between the production and Miguel's yelping... He's trying to find the nearest Thai takeout?

Leaves is one of the best songs I have heard in over 10 years. Such a beautiful, heartrending song. A little piece of my heart breaks every time I listen to it. Few songs have that profound of an impact. For comparisons with Prince, Purple Rain and The Arms of Orion (featuring Sheena Easton) are among the select few that have the same impact.

He gave Billy Corgan songwriting credit on leaves because of the similarities between it and Smashing Pumpkins' 1979.

"NWA" is one of those tracks where I like his vocal style and the production yet it is too laid back to be a radio hit. It is almost too boring/lazy, but it is a decent song though. His blending (the vocals) into the production is his downfall or at least he should have given us a breakdown.

I believe it's an actual sample or interpolation. 1979 is my favorite Smashing Pumpkins song and I knew something about leaves sounded familiar and then I checked the album credits and it all made sense.

The article I read alluded to Miguel noticing the similarities after the fact and giving credit to avoid any trouble down the road.

I saw Miguel live last night in New York. Overall, it was really fun but kinda messy show. Idk if these are spoilers are not so read at your own risk. A lot of these cons might be nit-picky, I enjoyed the show a lot.
PROS -The lighting and production arena-ready. -Miguel is ridiculously energetic and great (and often weird) dancer and performer, he did not let up the entire show. -Miguel has a phenomenal voice, one of the best among his peers.
CONS -Almost every song got a super rocked-up arrangement. This was fun at first but it was sometimes hard to tell when one song ended and the next began. I like that the live show was different from the record (otherwise, I'd just stay at home and listen to his albums) but you'd never know how interesting Miguel's sonics are by his concert. -These arrangements led to Miguel overusing his skilled voice. To keep the energy up with the band and the audience, he spent most of the time belting/shouting. Again, this is fun (and impressive) at first but some songs were unrecognizable and it got pretty monotonous. There was also CRAZY reverb on his microphone and I could barely understand what he was saying. -There was one (or two) too many speeches about being yourself/individuality/etc. He could have used that time to do "Use Me" or "nwa" or "the valley." -For most of his set, he was totally embracing the 'wild' hippie vibe and his singing and performing matched - and it was great. But for the handful of songs where he went full sex-kitten, it didn't. He was sexy enough the rest of the time but he forces it pretty hard. I was happy to hear "P**** is Mine" and "Quickie" and others but his performing during those songs were a bit of a turn-off. Girls screamed regardless.

How many full splits did he do though? When he opened for Alicia Keys during her Girl On Fire tour, he literally did them every 5 minutes LOL. I had no idea that he was performing last night. SO mad that I didn't go!

So I'm finally listening to this album and it's a nice listen, but it's definitely not commercial. It doesn't sound like anything his core format would pick up and play.

Time has not mellowed my love for this album. I actually love it more than Kaleidoscope Dream, by far, now. Leaves, Hollywood Dreams, Face The Sun, ...goingtohell, waves, etc.

It's definitely an album that has to be listened to from start to finish. It's an experience.

https%3A//soundcloud.com/miguel/u-r-on-my-mind-ft-blu-prod-by-a-williams-circa-1999 14 year old Miguel was going in on the D'Angelo tip! It's also crazy to see how long him and Blu Exile have been friends.

I want Miguel to win both of those, but especially album. I think he has it on lock, honestly.
