www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.27279/title.hip-hop-album-sales-week-ending-1-27-2014Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 1/27/2014 by Andres Tardio 2014 Grammy Nominees take over the #2 spot while Ty Dolla $ign's "Beach House EP" and Step Brothers' "Lord Steppington" releases open in the Top 100. This week, Grammy nominees took over the #2 spot on the Billboard Hot 200 albums chart, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis saw an increase in album sales and Kendrick Lamar and Jay Z found themselves jumping a few spots on the chart. Meanwhile Ty Dolla $ign's Beach House EP and Step Brothers' Lord Steppington debuted in the Top 60. 2014 Grammy Nominees Album Debuts At #2 The 2014 Grammy Nominees album opes up this week in the #2 spot with 59,561 albums sold overall. The album boasts a star-studded line-up filled with Grammy nominees, including Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kendrick Lamar, T.I., Pharrell and Jay Z, among others. T.I. and Pharrell appear as Robin Thicke's guests on "Blurred Lines." Pharrell also appears on Daft Punk's "Get Lucky." Kendrick Lamar appears on the album with "Swimming Pools (Drank)" and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis team up with Mary Lambert on the album for their "Same Love" collaboration. Of these artists, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis had the biggest increase in album sales from last week to this week. Their album The Heist had a 38 percent increase in sales from 13,116 albums sold last week to 18,090 units moved this week. The Heist also went from #24 on the charts last week to #14 on the charts this week. Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d. city saw a 0 percent increase in sales, though the album jumped from #55 to #33. Jay Z witnessed a 5 percent decrease in sales and his Magna Carta...Holy Grail fell from #82 to #92. Ty Dolla $ign's Beach House EP Debuts At #51 Ty Dolla $ign's Beach House EP, released through Atlantic Records, debuted on the charts this week. The EP landed at #51 with 6,127 units sold. HipHopDX gave Beach House EP a 4 out of 5 X rating in a recent review of the project. "From mic to plug, Beach House EP triumphantly strikes the same note," HipHopDX said of the EP. "The Los Angeles-native is a talented songwriter even while essentially re-writing the same song, which is a complicated square to dance in without two-stepping too close to redundancy. Remaining interesting without contextual diversity is tricky. Fortunately, Ty Dolla $ign doesn't have those problems." Step Brothers' Lord Steppington Debuts In Top 60 Alchemist and Evidence teamed up as Step Brothers for their Lord Steppington album, which debuted this week on the charts at #60. The duo's Rhymesayers Entertainment album opened up by selling 5,357 copies after its first week of availability. Lord Steppington earned a 4 out of 5 X rating on HipHopDX recently. Evidence spoke about how this album came together during the Brothers' recent HipHopDX interview. "I don’t think we set out to make an album," Ev said. "What’s different on this album from the others is there was no budget, dates, deadlines or booked mastering sessions. It wasn't like that. It was more like, wake up, smoke, coffee, then go to his place, and walk in and the beat's already going. I say, 'I like it,' and he says, 'I like this.' And that’s happening...That gets done, and then we move on to something else and someone comes over and we listen back. That happens over a year, or two years, or whatever. Then you look at ProTools and you’ve got a whole folder full of s**t. People were asking for it enough that we said, 'Let’s bottle this up and find someone to put it out.' There was no conscious effort to make an album. It was a lot of fun for me like that, because I never went to work. It was just like another f**king day in the life." www.billboard.com/articles/news/5885821/frozen-soundtrack-returns-to-no-1-on-billboard-200'Frozen' Soundtrack Returns To No. 1 On Billboard 200 By Keith Caulfield, L.A. | January 29, 2014 A Great Big World and Young The Giant each post Top 10 debuts. The soundtrack to Disney's "Frozen" returns to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 93,000 copies in the week ending Jan. 26, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That's up 7% compared with its sales in the previous week (87,000). This is the album’s third nonconsecutive week at No. 1. A week ago, it was No. 2. Last week's chart-topper, Bruce Springsteen's "High Hopes," falls to No. 8 in its second week, selling 26,000 (down 74%). "Frozen" is the first soundtrack to spend at least three weeks at No. 1 since 2007, when the TV soundtrack to "High School Musical 2" ruled for four frames. The last film soundtrack to spend three or more weeks at the top was "Bad Boys II," which reigned for four weeks in August 2003. Cumulative sales for "Frozen" now rise to 769,000. The film continues to do big business at the U.S. and Canada box office, even though it was released last November. According to Box Office Mojo, for the Jan. 24-26 weekend, the film was the fourth-highest-grossing movie, earning $9.1 million. Through Jan. 27, the movie has earned $348.6 million, making it the fourth-highest-grossing film released in 2013. The highest debut on the Billboard 200 this week is the "2014 Grammy Nominees" compilation, which enters at No. 2. It starts with 59,000 (a larger-than-expected figure), according to Nielsen SoundScan. The album showcases a variety of songs and artists that were honored at this year's Grammy Awards, which were broadcast on CBS on Sunday, Jan. 26. Traditionally, the "Grammy Nominees" album is released a number of weeks before the broadcast of the awards show itself, but this year, the album arrived during the same week as the show. That one-two punch of exposure (being both a new release and having the show help promote it) lifted the "Grammy Nominees" set higher than first forecast. A week ago, some industry sources suggested it would sell around 40,000 or so. In this week's episode, we break down the biggest surprises and best moments from this year's GRAMMY Awards. Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes HERE. The new "Grammy" album starts with the best debut sales week for the yearly compilation series since the 2007 edition, which bowed at No. 4 with 77,000 sold. It also matches the series-high rank of No. 2. That plateau was first achieved a year ago, when the 2013 edition climbed to No. 2 in the first full week after the awards. Beyonce's self-titled album rises 4-3 on the Billboard 200 with 48,000 (though it's down by 22%). The album could make a gain next week, after a full week of impact is felt from the Grammy Awards. (Beyonce opened the show, performing the album's single "Drunk in Love" with Jay Z.) A Great Big World's first album, "Is There Anybody Out There?," debuts at No. 4, selling nearly 48,000. The pop duo's album was led by the smash single "Say Something" (with Christina Aguilera), which reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Lorde's "Pure Heroine" rises 7-5 with 37,000 (up 19%) in the wake of her multiple Grammy wins and a performance of the album's "Royals" on the show. Meanwhile, Kidz Bop Kids' "Kidz Bop 25" slides 3-6 in its second week, with 36,000 (down 53%). Rock band Young the Giant scores its best week ever as its second album, "Mind Over Matter," debuts at No. 7 with 34,000. Its self-titled debut peaked at No. 42 in 2011, selling 10,000 in its best week. The group's current single, "It's About Time," has peaked at No. 6 on the Alternative airplay chart. Katy Perry's "PRISM" is steady at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 with 25,000 (up 11%), following her performance of the album's "Dark Horse" on the Grammy Awards. Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" descends two slots to No. 10 with 24,000 (down 16%). Over on the Digital Songs chart, Perry's "Dark Horse," featuring Juicy J, retains the No. 1 slot. It sold 294,000 downloads for the week—up 12% over the previous frame. Jason Derulo's fast-rising hit "Talk Dirty," featuring 2 Chainz, climbs 6-2 with 194,000 (up 31%). Pharrell's Oscar-nominated "Happy" (as widely seen in Beats commercials) flies 11-3 with 188,000 (up 57%). Aloe Blacc's "The Man" (which is also in rotation as the soundtrack of Beats TV spots) is stationary at No. 4 with 175,000 (up 6%). Pitbull's "Timber," featuring Ke$ha, slips 3-5 with 169,000 (down 16%). Bastille's "Pompeii" rises 10-6 with 148,000 (up 15%), likely because of its performance on this past weekend's "Saturday Night Live" (Jan. 25). A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera's "Say Something" falls 2-7 with 147,000 (down 30%—mostly owed to consumers opting to "complete" their album with the track on iTunes last week). Lorde's "Team" remains at No. 8 with 136,000 (up 2%), and OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" slips 5-9 with 132,000 (down 16%). Idina Menzel's "Let It Go" (from "Frozen") returns to the top 10, climbing 12-10 with 124,000 (up 10%). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Jan. 26) totaled 4.3 million units, down 4% compared with the sum last week (4.4 million) and down 13% compared with the comparable sales week of 2013 (4.9 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 18.4 million, down 14% compared with the same total at this point last year (21.3 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 23.7 million downloads, down 2% compared with last week (24.1 million) and down 11% stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (26.7 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 104 million, down 12% compared with the same total at this point last year (117.9 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2013 when: Justin Bieber's "Believe Acoustic" debuted at No. 1 with 211,000 sold. The previous week's No. 1, Gary Allan's "Set You Free," fell to No. 8 with 34,000.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/5885814/grammy-awards-generate-sales-gains-on-billboard-chartsGRAMMY Awards Generate Sales Gains on Billboard Charts By Keith Caulfield | January 29, 2014 11:00 AM EST Even though the latest sales tracking week ended on Sunday night (Jan. 26) -- the same day as the GRAMMY Awards -- the Billboard charts are still rocked by music's biggest night. While a number of albums and songs power up our tallies this week, we'll see the full impact of the show on next week's charts, once a full week of sales have been registered, post-show. The biggest selling album of the past week that is directly linked to the GRAMMY Awards is the debuting "2014 Grammy Nominees" compilation album. It enters at No. 2 with a larger-than-expected 59,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. (The No. 1 album this week is the soundtrack to "Frozen," which sold 93,000 -- up 7%). Traditionally, the "Grammy Nominees" album is released a number of weeks before the broadcast of the awards show itself, but this year, the album came out in the same week as the show. That one-two punch of exposure (being both a new release and having the show help promote it) lifted the "Grammy Nominees" set higher than first forecast. A week ago, some industry sources suggested it would sell around 40,000 or so. The new "Grammy" album starts with the best debut sales week for the yearly compilation series since the 2007 edition, which bowed at No. 4 with 77,000 sold. Additionally, the new "2014 Grammy Nominees" album equals the series-high rank of No. 2. That plateau was first achieved a year ago, when the 2013 edition climbed to No. 2 in the first full week after the awards. The top-selling song performed on the GRAMMY Awards is Katy Perry's "Dark Horse," featuring Juicy J, which retains the No. 1 slot on the Digital songs chart. It sold 294,000 downloads for the week -- up 12% over the previous frame. In total, 13 albums in the top 40 of the Billboard 200 chart see gains that are tied to visibility on the GRAMMY Awards. Among those are Lorde's "Pure Heroine," which rises 7-5 with 37,000 (up 19%) and Katy Perry's "PRISM," which is steady at No. 9 with 25,000 (up 11%). Lorde won two awards for her hit single "Royals" -- song of the year and best pop solo performance. While Perry didn't win any GRAMMYs this year, she had the show's fourth performance of the night, singing "Dark Horse" (from "PRISM") with Juicy J. Other high-charting gainers include: winner and performer Imagine Dragons' "Night Visions" (10-11 with 24,000; up 16%), performer and multiple winner Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "The Heist" (24-14 with 18,000; up 38%) and winner and presenter Bruno Mars' "Unorthodox Jukebox" (27-18 with 15,000; up 44%). The biggest unit gain on the chart belongs to two-time winner Kacey Musgraves, who also performed on the show, as her "Same Trailer Different Park" album zooms from No. 81 to No. 28 with 10,000 sold (up 147%). Watch for the set to take an even bigger leap up the chart next week. Taylor Swift, who performed the "Red" album cut "All Too Well" on the show, flies from No. 84 to No. 36 with "Red," selling 8,000 (up 105%). The song itself garnered a 3,280% increase in sales, rising from less than 1,000 downloads to 18,000. Daft Punk, which brought home numerous awards and performed on the show, climbs 83-39 on the Billboard 200 with the album of the year-winning "Random Access Memories." It sold 8,000 for the week, rising by 91% in sales. The album's lead single, "Get Lucky" (featuring Pharrell Williams), re-enters the Digital Songs chart at No. 36 with 50,000 sold (up 206%). Other big GRAMMY gainers on the Digital Songs chart: Lorde's "Royals" (14-13 with 102,000; up 17%), John Legend's "All Of Me" (44-15 with 86,000; up 110%), Beyonce's "Drunk In Love," featuring Jay Z (22-18 with 78,000; up 10%), Sara Bareilles' "Brave" (33-20 with 76,000; up 41%), Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" (46-29 with 61,000; up 58%), Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," featuring T.I. and Pharrell (49-37 with 50,000; up 34%) and P!nk's "Just Give Me a Reason," featuring Nate Ruess (a re-entry at No. 42 with 42,000; up 122%). All of the above songs were performed on the show. Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" sales were partially goosed by a new remix of the song, featuring Kendrick Lamar, which was released on Sunday night. The latter joined the rock band on the GRAMMY stage for a mash-up of "Radioactive" and Lamar's "m.A.A.d city." The remix accounts for 13% of "Radioactive's" overall sales this week.

music.yahoo.com/blogs/music-news/chart-watch-grammy-sales-bump-goes-194151075.htmlChart Watch: And The Grammy Sales Bump Goes To… By Paul Grein 40 minutes ago Yahoo Music You know who won the Grammys, but who got the biggest sales bump from the show? We won't know the full story until next week, when The Billboard 200 will reflect a full week of post-telecast sales. This week's chart reflects pre-show buzz and digital sales during or immediately after the show. Four albums by artists who won Grammys and/or performed on the show posted sales increases of 90% or more. Kacey Musgraves's "Same Trailer Different Park," which was a surprise winner for Best Country Album, vaults from #81 to #28, with sales up 147% over last week. Taylor Swift's "Red," which was shut out in the awards, jumps from #84 to #36, with sales up 105%. Sara Bareilles's "The Blessed Unrest," which was also shut out (but won just by being nominated for Album of the Year), jumps from #45 to #24, with sales up 92%. Daft Punk's "Random Access Memories," which won Album of the Year and Best Dance/Electronica Album, jumps from #83 to #39, with sales up 91%. In addition, the "2014 Grammy Nominees" compilation debuts at #2. That's the highest chart ranking to date for an album in this long-running franchise, now in its 20th year. This is the 13th installment to reach the top 10, which makes "Grammy Nominees" one of the most successful franchises in music history. It trails only the "Now" franchise, which has spawned 53 top 10 albums, Kidz Bop Kids’ "Kidz Bop" (18 top 10 albums) and "Glee" (15 top 10 albums and EPs). (The "Grammy Nominees" franchise is at a disadvantage in this comparison because it’s an annual series, whereas the others churn out new releases every few months.) The Grammy telecast was #1 for the week in the TV ratings. The show averaged 28.51 million viewers, making it the second most-watched Grammys since 1994. The "Frozen" soundtrack returns to #1 for a third week in the lead. It's the first soundtrack to spend three or more weeks at #1 since "High School Musical 2" (the soundtrack to a made-for-TV movie on the Disney Channel) topped the chart for four weeks in 2007. "Frozen" is the first soundtrack from a theatrically-released movie to log three or more weeks at #1 since "Bad Boys II" topped the chart for four weeks in 2003. All three of these albums spawned big hits. "Bad Boys II" yielded a #1 single, "Shake Ya Tailfeather" by Nelly/P. Diddy/Murphy Lee. "HSM 2" spawned three top 40 hits, including the top 10 "What Time Is It." "Frozen" is boosted by a top 30 hit, Idina Menzel's "Let It Go." "Frozen" logs its ninth week at #1 on Top Soundtracks. The movie was in the top five at the box-office for the ninth straight weekend. "Frozen" sold 50K digital copies this week, which puts it at #1 on Top Digital Albums for the fourth week. A Great Big World's "Is There Anybody Out There?" debuts at #4. The duo's "Say Something" (a collabo with Christina Aguilera) is about to spend its seventh week in the top five on the Hot 100. Aguilera won a Grammy as Best New Artist of 1999. A Great Big World may well be a contender for that award next year. Young the Giant's second studio album, "Mind Over Matter," debuts at #7. It's the indie rock band's first top 10 album. Its eponymous debut album peaked at #42 in 2010. Every boss has rough weeks, and Bruce Springsteen is no exception. His new "High Hopes" tumbles from #1 to #8. It's his first album to spend just one week in the top five since 2006's "We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions," a collection of songs made famous by folk legend Pete Seeger (who died on Monday). It's Springsteen's first studio album of original material not to spend two or more weeks in the top five since 1995's "The Ghost Of Tom Joad," which peaked at #11. "High Hopes" also drops out of the top spot on the U.K.'s Official Albums Chart, though it doesn't fall as far: It dips to #2. "Dark Horse" by Katy Perry featuring Juicy J holds at #1 on Hot Digital Songs for the third week (294K). It sold 100K more than the week's #2 best-seller, "Talk Dirty" by Jason Derulo featuring 2 Chainz. "Dark Horse" is a sure thing to jump from #2 to #1 on the Hot 100, as you'll see later today when we post my Songs blogs. Here's a recap of this week's top 10 albums. The Top Five: The "Frozen" soundtrack rebounds from #2 to #1 in its ninth week (93K). This is its seventh week in the top 10 … "2014 Grammy Nominees" debuts at #2 (59K) … Beyonce's "Beyonce" inches up from #4 to #3 in its seventh week (48K). It has been in the top five the entire time … A Great Big World's "Is There Anybody Out There?" debuts at #4 (48K). It's the duo's first top 10 album … Lorde's "Pure Heroine" rebounds from #7 to #5 in its 17th week (37K). This is its 12th week in the top 10. The Second Five: Kidz Bop Kids' "Kidz Bop 25" drops from #3 to #6 in its second week (36K) … Young the Giant's "Mind Over Matter" debuts at #7 (34K). It's the band's first top 10 album … Bruce Springsteen's "High Hopes" drops from #1 to #8 in its second week (26K) … Katy Perry's "PRISM" holds at #9 for the second week in its 14th week (25K). This is its 13th week in the top 10 … Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" drops from #8 to #10 in its 12th week (24K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time. Jennifer Nettles' "That Girl" drops from #5 to #12. It holds at #1 on Top Country Albums for the second week. It's the first album by a female solo artist to top this chart for two or more weeks since Taylor Swift's "Red" led for 16 weeks in 2012-2013. Two other albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Switchfoot's "Fading West" dives from #6 to #29. Imagine Dragons' "Night Visions" dips from #10 to #11. Florida-based punk band Against Me! lands its first top 30 album as "Transgender Dysphoria Blues" (its sixth studio album) debuts at #23 … AER's "AER" debuts at #26. It's the R&B group's highest-charting album. "The Bright Side" reached #85 in August 2012. The Beatles' box set "The U.S. Albums" debuts at #48. In addition, seven individual albums by the group are listed on this week's chart, led by "Hey Jude" at #72. The Fab Four first cracked the top 10 on The Billboard 200 50 years ago this week. "Meet The Beatles!" vaulted from #92 to #3 that week (behind The Singing Nun's eponymous debut album and Peter, Paul & Mary's "In The Wind.") "Meet The Beatles!" re-enters the chart this week at #171. Ed Sheeran's "+" rebounds from #74 to #59 in its 81st week. The album debuted and peaked at #5 in June 2012. It has sold 764K copies. The album climbs to #1 on Top Catalog Albums for the first time…"Halcyon" by fellow Brit artist Ellie Goulding rebounds from #65 to #62 in its 57th week. The album has climbed as high as #9. The album logs its third week at #1 on the U.K.'s Official Albums Chart. As of this week, Bob Marley & the Wailers have sold 20 million albums since January 1991, when Nielsen SoundScan began tracking music sales. As you might expect, "Legend" accounts for the bulk of that total. The compilation has sold 11,470,000 copies in the same period. P!nk's "The Truth About Love Tour: Live From Melbourne" enters Top Music Videos at #1. It sold 13K copies, not bad for a music video. Pink's "The Truth About Love" album debuted at #1 in September 2012. Coming Attractions: Look for Of Mice And Men's "Restoring Force" and Casting Crowns' "Thrive" to be next week's top new entries. Also due: Wisin's "El Regreso Del Sobreviviente."

Sigh... www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgiCHART RESUSCITATION: This morning SoundScan re-ran their Top 200 chart—which has become pretty commonplace nowadays. Their rundown previously had Black Magnetic/Epic's A Great Big World at #4; the do-over moved the band's bow to #3, matching the order of yesterday's HITS Album Sales Chart. If only they'd asked us in the first place, they could've avoided all this trouble. (1/29a)

Looks like Aloe Blacc's EP dropped right off the chart from No. 60. :o
I don't know why Cherilyn's label is reporting redemptions like it is- it's not like it had that many solely in last week's reporting period, for it to rank No. 36 (if tickets had gone on sale for another show during that time, that would explain it- but doesn't look like that's the case).
They should be more spread out, I'd think.

Sales didn't reach a new low this week- but we'll see next week. Post-awards boosts should help.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/5893807/chart-moves-against-mes-highest-charting-album-sara-bareilles-grammy-gainChart Moves: Against Me!'s Highest Charting Album, Sara Bareilles' Grammy Gain By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | January 31, 2014 This week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, the "Frozen" soundtrack ruled for a third non-consecutive week at No. 1, while the "2014 Grammy Nominees" album entered at No. 2. Meanwhile, a number of albums saw early Grammy-related sales gains, including Katy Perry, who earned an 11% sales gain with her "PRISM" album (No. 9 with 25,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan). As usual, there were a number of movers and shakers elsewhere on the Billboard 200 this week. Let's take a look at some of them... -- Against Me!, "Transgender Dysphoria Blues" (No. 23): The rock band scores its highest charting album ever, and its first release on its own label, Total Treble Music. The No. 23 opening surpasses the No. 34 debut and peak of its previous high, set when 2010's "White Crosses" arrived. -- Sara Bareilles, "The Blessed Unrest" (No. 24): Bareilles, who both performed on the Grammy Awards (Jan. 26) and got face time as an Album of the Year nominee, zooms 45-24 with "The Blessed Unrest" (up 92%), selling 11,000 for the week. It's the title's best sales frame since Sept. 21 (17,000) and highest rank since Aug. 11 (No. 11). -- Various Artists, "Ultra Dance 15" (No. 66): The series, which launched in 2002, celebrates its 15th edition with this new set, boasting Lana Del Rey, Britney Spears, Linkin Park and One Direction. In total, the series has sold 1.4 million copies in the United States. -- Reverend Horton Heat, "REV" (No. 111): The act's first release on Victory Records brings the rock trio back to the Billboard 200 for the first time since 1998's "Space Heater." Even better, "REV" is the Reverend Horton Heat's highest-charting album, surpassing the No. 165 peak of 1996's "It's Martini Time." -- Los Lonely Boys, "Revelation" (No. 120): The trio's latest debuts at No. 120 -- its seventh charting album (3,000) and first since 2011's "Rockpango" debuted and peaked at No. 70. Their highest charting album came with 2006's "Sacred" (No. 2), which followed up their breakthrough self-titled major-label debut that spent 76 weeks on the list, peaking at No. 9. -- Carole King, "Tapestry" (No. 177): King, the 2014 MusiCares Person of the Year, returns to the list with her landmark album "Tapestry" (2,000; up 27%). This is the album's first visit to the chart since June 15, 2013. King was celebrated at an all-star concert on Jan. 24 in Los Angeles, and also performed on the Grammys. -- Soundtrack, "Despicable Me 2" (No. 199): As the album's single "Happy," by Pharrell, begins to take off at radio (debuting at No. 31 on Mainstream Top 40 this week) the set finally bows on the Billboard 200 (2,000; up 26%). This is its best sales week since its release last June.
