Meaghan Smith is a Canadian singer/songwriter who was born in London, Ontario but she's lived in Halifax for the last decade and is pretty big here locally. She won the Best New Artist Juno Award in 2011. She had a cover of the Pixies' Here Comes Your Man on the (500) Days Of Summer soundtrack. Her debut album The Cricket's Orchestra was released in 2010 and is more of a jazzy/pop record so this new single from her upcoming album is quite a change in sound for her. It's not really folk and she's signed to Sire Records in Canada but I think otherwise she fits in this forum more than the others.
