Debuts at #32 on Hot Dance Club Play:
Debut No. 32 "Living For Love" Madonna The Queen of Pop returns to her queendom, as "Living for Love" launches at No. 32. It's her first entry since "Turn Up the Radio" in 2012, which became her record-extending 43rd No. 1 on the survey. "We knew we wanted to make a dance record. But you know, there's so many different levels of dance music and even different categories of house music," Madonna told Billboard last month of the song that she helmed with Diplo. "So, it was really like, what's the bass line gonna sound like? Is it gonna be really stripped down and sparse, or is it going to be loaded up? Is it gonna be Chicago house? Is it gonna be U.K. house? It's like, all over the place. Is it gonna be a little bit of one vocal line? Is it gonna be a whole choir singing? So, we were experimenting and trying out different things. They all sounded good, but at the end of the day, we wanted it to sound timeless also. Not just something of the moment."

I wonder how she did it. Will she perform with a nominee or is she just that powerful? If she doesn't, this must be a rare incidence.

Usually, the Grammy producers want you to perform the song you are nominated for, but now this is the second time where Madonna performed but she sang songs that she was not nominated for:
-1999: She performed Nothing Really Matters but the individual track she was nominated for was Ray of Light (in addition to the Ray of Light album)
-2014: snippet of Open Your Heart...but she was part of an ensemble, do doesn't really count.
-2015: She is performing Living for Love, but she is not nominated for anything.
Maybe the Grammy producers just want her on the show each time and are like "you can do whatever you like, as long as you perform!"
Go girl.

Wish it would be someone like Daft Punk, but it will probably be Sam Smith.

It's a ratings draw for the pre-commercial tease "stay tuned for more performers, including MADONNA!"
I think she will be more towards the end to keep the ratings high throughout the show.

Add more to the list next year for sure. Can we see her perform 3 years in a row at the Grammys? MADONNA (7) has more Grammys than Whitney (6), Mariah (5), Janet (5) or even Celine (5) esp since the first three have their R&B category to lean on... 2007 Best Long Form Music Video The Confessions Tour 2006 Best Electronic/Dance Album Confessions On A Dance Floor 1999 Best Song Written For A Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media. Beautiful Stranger (From Austin Powers - The Spy Who Shagged Me) 1998 Best Dance Recording Ray Of Light 1998 Best Pop Album Ray Of Light 1998 Best Short Form Music Video Ray Of Light 1991 Best Music Video, Long Form Madonna - Blonde Ambition World Tour Live

But, SPRΞΞ, that was just a guest appearance. This year, she's a performance headliner, no doubt. :)
jump- given the amount of reverence she and her music have, that Grammys count should be higher. Granted, the Grammys' history is dubious in terms of representing the very best in music- mainstream or otherwise- but, still.

Correct!! No love for the Like a Prayer era for example?! The fact that her first performance was during the ROL era is ridiculous... Btw, I think Hung Up is an iconic performance... To me one of the best Grammy moments of the 2000s, so no competition :) my second best would be Music just because she felt more comfortable on stage. I think for NRM she was nervous and feeling the need to prove she deserved that spot. She focused on her singing, which was good. Anyway. I'm excited of course about her performance. I think it could feature AK and MNEK just to give that extra Grammy feeling. Could be fun to have Nicki threw but I don't think it'd fit with the whole LFL vibe. And wasn't Justin Timberlake given A LOT of time despite not being nominated in 2013??

Pesonally, I would prefer Nicki sit this one out. No disrespect, but I just want 100% Madonna, no other "divas".

IMO.

As she's likely performing "Living For Love," there'd be no need for Nicki Minaj's presence (and it's the kind of song that should stray from a rap tack-on).

The awards don't make justice to the Queen IMO. Things have changed tho and the Grammys opened more to pure pop and rap artists. At the same time, the awards reflect key areas where M has made impact on music/Pop culture: videos, concerts, soundtracks, pop, dance.

^That's one way to look at it. In any event, she was too controversial a choice for major categories- that's the only way to explain Like a Prayer's omissions, as it was one of the most acclaimed mainstream albums of that year.
And going by some other albums that had Album of the Year nominations before and after it, Like a Virgin and True Blue could have received an AOTY nod, as well (even with the weaker album tracks). But, she didn't fit in among the safe, middle-of-the-road acts and material that NARAS was highlighting.

Well at least M was nominated in female vocal category for Crazy for you and Papa don't preach, and in song from movie for Who's that girl... But I agree that TB and specially LAP deserved much more love!

I believe some of the biggest names in music have never won a single grammy. Facts. I believe Brian McKnight and Snoop Dogg are the biggest "losers" with 16 nominations and no wins; even critic darlings don't always translate that into a win (Bjork, for example, has 13 noms yet no wins).

I'm more interested in her scoring Top 10 singles than in her Grammy wins, though she should have won best new artist in 1984!
