It still kills me to this day that ILT didnāt go top 10 on the Hot 100. It was such a breathe of fresh air and a real attention grabber after the commercial performance of her previous eras singles. I still remember hearing it when it leaked early and thinking āoh my god I canāt believe the difference in this verses Charmbracelet. Sheās fucking back!ā That was before I even heard WBT. But I knew we were about to witness something incredible. WBT may have ended up the chart hit, but ILT set it up very nicely and I feel it is under appreciated for doing so. Yeah its Hot 100 peak is definitely misleading in terms of the impact it had. If its sales and airplay peaks had aligned better, I think it would have snuck into the top 10. It also did well on TRL if I remember right. I think it's probably the song of hers with the most misleading peak in terms of feeling like a bigger hit, actually. Some songs may have felt like they should have been 1-2 spots higher (like "Anytime You Need a Friend" and "Shake It Off"), but for "ILT" to peak at #16 yet have felt like a top 10 hit is a pretty big difference.

What a dream! I went to her concert in Sao Paulo. I cried like a baby... The setlist was perfect, even missing VOL and Fantasy.
Can't Let Go was the most emotional moment on the show for me.
She delivered vocals here, it was way better than I was expecting judging by her latest shows.

I love that people know. I love the clips of people reacting to Mariah thawing getting ready for that yearly announcement.

I'm so glad she finally made it back to Brazil and that the shows went so well!! Brazil more than deserves it. Back to this for a second: It still kills me to this day that ILT didnāt go top 10 on the Hot 100. Some songs may have felt like they should have been 1-2 spots higher (like "Anytime You Need a Friend" and "Shake It Off"), but for "ILT" to peak at #16 yet have felt like a top 10 hit is a pretty big difference. I reviewed the individual peaks for "ILT" and I have to double down on what I wrote lmao: Hot 100 peak - #16 Hot 100 Airplay peak - #14 Digital Songs peak - #10 (7 weeks after the Airplay peak) So, it peaked higher in both airplay and sales than it did on the Hot 100. It also hit #1 on TRL for multiple days, which at that time said a lot about its impact.

Huge critic acclaim to her show in Rock in Rio. Some sources are electing the best show of this edition and the best show in the history of "Sunset Stage".
She wins again!

Lol, not her referencing Aretha's famous shade.
Also, on new music: "I canāt wait to put it out, but it wonāt be for at least until next year." At least...

Apparently, the debut album doesn't exist to the Brazilians.

Apparently, the debut album doesn't exist to the Brazilians. She performed "Love Takes Time" in Sao Paulo at least. But I really wanted to see VOL live. Anyway, so many hits, I understand. The last chorus of "We Belong Together" in Rock In Rio was almost 100% live, wasn't? Can't someone confirm? I think she sang live almost the entire show.

"I Want to Know What Love Is" and "Obsessed" are the two songs.
Also, in the wake of her Rio performance, at least 5-10 of her songs hit new daily streaming highs on Spotify.

Wow! She looks and sounds absolutely divine in Brazil. I hope the shows in China and Brazil being a resounding success encourages her to do more of these types of shows. She's built an amazing legacy outside of Christmas music and it definitely deserves to celebrated at the level they were at these two countries. Also, late summer/autumn seems to be a great time for doing these types of shows since "it's not time yet", so she can celebrate her non-Christmas music. But also, this is the part of the year that directly feeds into/transitions to her season. It's just good timing. Plus, at this point of the year, she'll already be in a more promo/work-mode mentality (which I definitely think contributed to how great she was at these shows) since artists who plan for holiday content usually start planning mid-summer. Looking forward to MC30. Though I don't listen to much Christmas music, a LAMB from another site mentioned Michael Buble and Kelly Clarkson's Christmas albums have a higher proportion of more widely covered standards than Mariah? If so, couldn't she record a few and add to MC, or would that be a new album? Yeah, one of the main reasons I own and listen to Michael Buble's Christmas album is due to the sheer volume and variety of classics he covers within just one album. Mariah said somewhere that she tends to favor the traditional hymns/Christmas carols like "Silent Night", "O Holy Night", "Joy to the World", etc. I don't expect her to cover a song like "Frosty the Snowman", which is fine. But you know has covered it? Michael Buble. He's really good at covering the gaps/filling the niche that others leave.

But you know has covered it? Michael Buble. He's really good at covering the gaps/filling the niche that others leave. Mariah did cover "Sleigh Ride," though, and she of course wrote "Lil Snowman" and recorded it so I don't see why "Frosty the Snowman" or something is out of the question. It's really more about Mariah [understandably] wanting to write her own music. She's written 3 or more originals on each of her two holiday albums, and then she's released other originals like "Lil Snowman" and "Fall In Love at Christmas." So, yeah, she will do fewer cover songs as a result. Still, the first holiday album had "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," and the second had the "Santa" medley and "Charlie Brown Christmas." If she ever does a third holiday album, I'd fully expect something like "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer," "Frosty the Snowman," or "Winter Wonderland" to be on it. But, yeah, it's also clear one big reason Michael Buble's holiday album continues to do so well is that it's full of secular holiday songs that everyone knows (plus he's had like 5 deluxe editions or whatever). Meanwhile:

Happy she's performing at the AMAs. TEOM might be the next one to get an anniversary edition (next year would be its 20th) since she's been giving it so much attention lately. I do hope Daydream gets one next year as well.

I really need to stay off X And also stop reading Instagram comments. Lol
Iām amount of negativity Iāve seen, especially about Mariah. People often claim sheās only popular in the US or that her only well-known song is āAll I Want for Christmas Is You.ā But from what Iāve seen, her streaming numbers for other songs are also quite high. Am I missing something? While itās true that most of her biggest chart successes have been in the US, didnāt her recent shows in Brazil and China prove sheās also popular outside the US and beyond just Christmas?
I know itās just trolls but itās crazy.

I've frequently posted streaming stats to back this up, but for example here are the amount of songs each woman has that have at least 200 million Spotify streams and 200 million YouTube views: Mariah - 10 Madonna - 6 Whitney - 5 Celine - 4 You can see that even if you remove "AIWFCIY" from those totals, Mariah still has more songs with a higher streaming level. So, yes, it's trolls/biased stans of the other women wanting to take Mariah down.

In regards to Xmas albums, I always had a suspicion that her performing traditional songs had something to do with royalties. Tommy was probably looking to maximize profits and so the label (and Mariah!) make a lot more having so few writers to pay for the album vs someone recording more modern āstandardsā like Buble. Her Xmas album has to be one of the most profitable ever.

Her Xmas album has to be one of the most profitable ever. Good point. I think Mariah even has credits on Michael Bolton's holiday albums because the arrangements of a song or two were the ones Mariah/Walter did for Merry Christmas. I wonder if that Mariah means gets some royalties off those covers. We all know Mariah would prefer to promote her original holiday songs over covers (for several reasons), and that to some degree that holds back her commercial prospects (outside of "AIWFCIY" since that is a holiday standard now). Mariah could likely increase her streams/sales by promoting her covers more, but she profits more off her original songs so to some degree it's a catch-22. I doubt Buble is making much money at all off the streams of his album since it's nearly all covers; he has to do TV specials, concerts, etc to make money off his holiday music.

Is she set to perform tonight on AMAs? The AMAs are Oct. 6. And yes, Mariah is scheduled to perform.
