I'm pretty sure she says I'm the best thing that happened to your dick on THIRSTY Tragic, for a 44 year old woman. With two young kids.. Girl, bye. You don't have to be a 44 year old woman with kids to bop to this and that's exactly what I'm doing all day long. Mariah released a CUT, deal with it. Maybe she said "The best thing that happened to your ass is me" but I doubt it. I like to imagine she sang the former.

She's gonna be thirsty for a label after this album. Well, rumor has it she was looking for a new label after this album anyway. She may as well take charge of things anyway, and then focus on rebuilding a team after this mess of an era. I wouldn't want her spending the time, money and resources looking for a better team when all things point to label and Mariah conflict. People are saying she is rehearsing a new ballad for Friday. Not sure if that is true, but it might certainly help give the album some traction for album sales if it is a great ballad.

Thirsty is the one solo song tagged as Explicit on iTunes.

I've been listening to Mimi on repeat all day at work. What a work of art that album is. She sings the s**t out of Mine Again, Circles, Stay The Night, I Wish You Knew, Joy Ride, Fly Like A Bird....

Does anyone know if she is going to promote the album during release week other than World Music Awards? I strongly feel that she should add some promotional dates during the release week, especially because not everyone pre-orders.

^I hope she's the musical guest on Fallon that week, at least.

There definitely seems to be tension between Mariah and the label, but I find that to be a shame because I don't think Mariah will find a much better label situation. I mean, Mariah basically had freedom to make the album she wanted. In addition to that, the label spent money promoting "Triumphant," "#Beautiful," and "You're Mine" despite an album never dropping. They set up 2 album release dates that Mariah backed out of. And now they have set up for this May 27 release. How many labels would have backed her through all of that? If she wants any sort of leverage in getting a new contract somewhere, this album has got to sell decently.

If she wants any sort of leverage in getting a new contract somewhere, this album has got to sell decently. I am not saying they haven't been good through out all of this nonsense concerning the album, but this is why you need strong leaders to assert themselves and say hey Mariah I need this album by this date. If you don't, consider yourself released from your contract especially seeing that this is her last album of her contract. As much as Mariah fights her higher ups, she usually is better when she has a headstrong person at the forefront of her label who says I understand you and your general music vision, but now you better understand me and what I expect from you as well. The only reason why so many things go half-baked with her is because no one has told this woman, "No, that isn't good enough or flesh this out more." The only reason why TEOM turned out better than it would have is because L.A. Reid told her no the album wasn't ready, and she needed to go back and work on it, and then "It's Like That" and "WBT" were born. She needs people like that whether she wants them in her life or not.

Just a note: I believe that total for #B" was for the first seven days. Once it eventually peaked outside of the airplay promo, I think the peak got close to that (67m or so Mediabase). No, the 69+ million peak happened on June 17, 2013.

I think I know why I have taken to so few of her ballads as of late. I think it is because lyrically, vocally, and emotionally she hasn't made that connection. She is best when she can make that emotional connection, and she hasn't been making those connections. The only ballads that I have liked since WBT are Fly Like a Bird, Last Kiss, For the Record and H.A.T.E.U.

The emotional connection is exactly what is needed. I feel a clear difference in the emotion she gives in songs like "When I Saw You" or "Forever" compared to a song like "Angels Cry".
Which is why I LOVE The Art of Letting Go because I feel strong emotion in that one.

I like the Art Of Letting Go, but had she taken her time and written the song and then gone back and just scaled back the verbosity in a few key places and defined the chorus a bit better before the end where it had finally been defined what the chorus was, then it would have had more impact emotionally than it did. I hate how the verses and chorus blend into one another. I hear the emotion in her voice, but it doesn't really strike me until the end of the song when she is singing the chorus out and I finally understand the chorus. That last part of TAOLG is pure magic. She has to stop focusing on making the ending grand and not the rest of the song.

I am hearing word that this was played on Z100. That would be a nice change of pace if true when have they ever taken it upon themselves to play something of hers unless it was a hit.

I'm pretty sure she says I'm the best thing that happened to your dick on THIRSTY Everytime I read this, I burst out laughing. I would bet my life on her saying "Best thing that happened to yo' a$$ is me." I want that Slant remix. I don't care what song it's for. Ugh. I am so sick of explaining to these Indian guys I am over here with in Sydney about Mariah Carey's excellence. They didn't even know Always Be My Baby and one of them called her "Maria Carey". Not surprised for a country that thinks dance remixes of Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams and On The Floor by J. Lo are the hottest thing around.

If you get a chance, you definitely should. It's beautiful here and they seem to love Mariah. I need to get the song Thirsty to some DJs in the Gold Coast this weekend so I can see the reaction when it hits.

I thought you said a country that loves J.LO and Bryan Adams LOL- unless you were talking about India because of your friends? LOL

Oh yah, sorry...that was about India because I was saying how the Indians I am here in Sydney with don't know "Maria Carey". It's OK. I don't know her either, LOL. Australia seems to be pretty OK on the music front. I haven't really been out to clubs here, just bars. One bar I went to in the Central Business District (CBD) was playing loud, obnoxious techno which I can't stand and the other was a themed speakeasy-style small bar that was playing loud jazz. I do know they are keen on techno in Sydney though, which is troubling. I want to hear ratchet type bops like Thirsty when i go to clubs, not anonymous sounding beats with not many vocals. That's why I need to push Thirsty on these Aussies because I am not sure they will hear it if I don't.

The three singles thus far have moved up the iTunes chart:
#Beautiful: No. 362 You're Mine (Eternal): No. 378 The Art of Letting Go: No. 506
And, MP, you're right. I went back and checked- the Mediabase total for the first seven days was almost 67 million. So, I had it the other way around (that was close to the eventual Mediabase Quick-Cut peak).

Has it been pointed out that Thirsty sounds like a diss track to Nick Cannon?

Several times in this thread since the song premiered, so...yes. I, for one, was one of the people who adamantly believed it HAD to be. However, Mariah has always been keen on saying she takes stories from her friends as inspiration for her songs so this doesn't necessarily HAVE to be about Nick. The lyrical barbs just seem so, I dunno, direct on this one. Then again, I wouldn't exactly call Nick "THIRSTY" for fame. He's always been a showman and a irreverent goofball, but I don't think he has ever come across as fame-hungry. He seems to be having fun with what he does. Plus, he never changed his name officially (though he has gone by pseudonyms). At the end of the day, Mariah's lyrics have always been pretty much up for interpretation, with some being more obvious than others, so, unless she breaks the silence, we can only speculate.

"Thirsty" is a couple of years old, so I doubt it's about Nick or Nicki. The track predates American Idol and all this Nick breakup gossip.

Wow, it kind of went right over my head that it might be about Damizza. I forget about their fall out. He said he got with her or something right?

Very Interesting: For ages 25-64, GMA has won the ratings war with the Today Show for the past 92/95 weeks. However! The Today Show has led the ratings for the younger demo 18-49 years old for 45 weeks in a row!
So Mariah chose the show that has the bigger younger audience, and yet she's NOT performing Thirsty? If she was gonna do ballads and come across old school with ABMB then why in the world wouldn't she do GMA?!
Now I'm convinced she's gotta do Thirsty.
