If she isn't also 1993, 1994, and 1995, Billboard about to lose all of its credibility.

"AIWFCIY" re-enters the Hot 100 at #16 (chart date 11/30/24). It is #6 on the streaming chart. Merry Christmas rises 47-36 on the Billboard 200 with the equivalent of 19k sold. Can't wait to see "Rockin" suddenly leapfrog it the day after Thanksgiving. *roll eyes*

Well I maintain there was no arguable reason to exclude her entirely from the greatest 21st century list given a solid half a dozen or so that actually made it on, so I don’t give their staff much credit with her. Honestly, the media and entertainment industry’s decades long obsession with snubbing her where credit is due needs to be studied in-depth.

I really thought they'd go all out with the 30th anniversary celebrations but this feels like the least they worked since '19. I was expecting a campaign for AIWFCIY to have multiple weeks at #1 after the slips last year and maybe a diamond cert and a no. 1 for the album. Or even make C(BPCH) finally chart on hot 100.
Apart from the tour and the very low-key anniversary release, there isnt much happening. Or is it about to start?

Off the top of my head, 8 top 10 albums, 5 number one songs, 5 more top 20 songs. Weeks alone atop the Hot 100 is like 30 weeks. I found it strange too that she wasn’t included. And yes the 30th anniversary seems a major bust. Honestly, holiday music in generally feels like a big letdown this year. Happy thanksgiving, though! Maybe that’ll turn things around.

If she isn't also 1993, 1994, and 1995, Billboard about to lose all of its credibility. I'm pretty sure their ones for the individual years of the 1990s were just who won Artist of the Year in their year-end issues. Mariah is held back there because so many of her albums were released in late summer or fall, so they split years (for instance Music Box had weeks at #1 in late 1993 and in 1994, and the singles from the album were split in those years, too, as opposed to most of that happening in 1993 or in 1994). Well, Merry Christmas isn't Diamond, so not sure how they could just get it that cert. I also don't think Mariah has much interest in promoting holiday songs she didn't write. But yeah, this anniversary has been low key overall (no night talk show appearance right?), but considering how much she does every year, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. Plus as JamaicaFunk² mentioned, it's been low key for holiday music in general so far this year. Meanwhile this was cute:

I'm actually OK with the laidback feel of the 30th anniversary, especially if that's the general feeling for holiday music so far. Her tour seems to be going well, and "AIWFCIY" is doing fine. I'd still love for it to break the record for most weeks at number 1, but the song is so much bigger than the charts that it doesn't really matter.
I've mentioned it before, but much as Mariah would probably prefer to promote Christmas songs she's written, she'd have a much better chance of getting another Billboard entry with "CBPCH," so she'd be wiser to focus on promoting other classics/standards. A lot of her originals are great, but I don't know iif I see anything else catching on the same way another classic/standrad would.

I also don't think Mariah has much interest in promoting holiday songs she didn't write. I dont know how close it is but with enough streaming/playlisting and radio push CBPCH may be able to chart. She doesnt actively have to do anything actually.

She doesnt actively have to do anything actually. It's not all that close. Keep in mind it would have to be top 50 on the Hot 100 to chart since it's considered recurrent. I don't remember full specifics, but I know I've looked at it before and "C(BPCH)" would have to be around #30 on the Holiday 100 around Christmas to make the top 50 of the Hot 100. It's usually in the 60s of the Holiday 100 at that point, so it would need something to give it a big boost. They did put out that lyric video last year, which gives it more of a video than it's ever had, but unfortunately it doesn't have many views. The other thing Sony could do it promote it on playlists, but to do that they'd probably have to get "AIWFCIY" dropped. I'm not sure the streaming platforms want to do that since "AIWFCIY" is huge, and Mariah and her team probably wouldn't want that either if it's to help a song she didn't write.
