After a first full play my first impressions are: Fantasy and Always Be My Baby are obviously flawless and remain some of my favorite Mariah tracks. I never really listened to One Sweet Day- after listening to it I LOVE it and it definitely sounds familiar, I'm sure I've heard it before but wow that melody is gorgeous. Album tracks that are my FAVORITE after the first play are: - Underneath the Stars (reminds me so much of Fourth of July- which I love! love the atmosphere of this) - When I Saw You (loving the way she sings this, especially the chorus) - Forever (this one might be one of my favorite Mariah songs after a first listen, I'm soo slayed- her vocals and the feel of it is beautiful) - Melt Away (YAS this is such a flawless melody, so perfect!) - Looking In (this is so beautiful, the lyrics are so powerful and I love the simplicity of it) Open Arms is a GREAT cover too. Long Ago is cute but didn't slay me as the rest of the album did and I Am Free didn't do much for me. I think my FAVORITE non-single songs are Underneath the Stars, Forever and Melt Away. It's hard not to put Looking In in the top 3 but it is only my first listen so I'm sure things will change! I'm elated you were so slayed experiencing your Daydream cherry wreckage. Great pics. I also recommend checking out "Slipping Away", which is a B-side from the era if you're not familiar. If remixes are your thing, the JD "Always Be My Baby" and David Morales "Fantasy" remixes are both #Jamandahalf and standouts in her discography.

I have Music Box but I only really listen to the singles- I don't think I've ever really listened to the rest of it.[/quote OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! To be able to experience MARIAH CAREY again for the first time. Whew lawd! ::Fans self::

I'm listening to the Daydream album for the first time right now! I'm super jealous!! It's like when you have great sex with someone you just started dating and the thrill and pleasure can't be explained.

I was a late boomer to Mariah's music as well. When Mariah was active, I didn't pay much attention to music. I didn't get cable until like 2000. And when I did, I listened to people like Destiny's Child, Britney Spears, Nsync, 3LW. Mariah wasn't on my radar even thought I knew some of her songs like Heartbreaker, Honey and Breakdown. I went back a few short years ago and listened to most of her discography and fell in love. Anything 1996 and behind was an instant classic for me. Good times. :)

I'm still ashamed of myself for never getting the chance to do this before... I've been a huge fan of her's since I was a child and then when I really started following music and she released E=MC2 I was a HUGE fan. Took me way too long to finally get to this- thank you Spotify! And I'm definitely take my time, I need a few days with Daydream because it is FLAWFREE. I can tell it's the precursor to the Butterfly album because the lyrics and melodies seem like the baby versions of the Butterfly album.

yasss "Forever" and "Underneath The Stars" forever remain flawless and hidden gems or as Mimi would call it, obscure. I've always heard so many comments about "Melt Away" but I've never heard about "Forever" which imo I think is SO flawless and NEEDS to be more discussed and praised. Forever is amazing. It was a radio-only single. It's video got a lot of play back then. It's a live version of the song, and it might actually be better than the album version.

Do you ever wonder if she could sing Forever live now? It's such a hard song to sing!

Right now 16K/week is Top 10 territory. Unless there is a massive single hiding out there, this is going to be Mimi's "Britney Jean" and that is OK. If the music is good, that's all the matters, but I can't say that I'm all-in for this project. The fits-and-starts did me in. Really? Since some of my favs are only releasing new album's this year, i didn't catch up with the sales chart for awhile. It's wayyy downn. Last time i checked 16k was top 20. This week Shakira was #10 with barely over 14K! Sales have been crushed - between lack of hot releases and streaming. I believe people are finding it less and less important to OWN releases.

She loves that slightly open-mouthed "'I'm just a bit surprised' look, huh? It looks like they digitally combined her Daydream and Charmbracelet covers together.

Been listening to E=MC² lately and damn if they didn't royally mess up the single campaign for that album.

I prefer that to the deluxe for damn sure. It's rare that we get a full-on face shot of Mariah like that, where she isn't CAMOFLAGING her bad side. Not gonna lie. I geeked out when I saw that this thread was advancing and then was a bit deflated when I saw it was all nostalgia talk but hey, it's all love and positivity at least. While Daydream has not aged well in the slightest for me, it was one of my favorite albums in high school and is still a career highlight for her, as far as I'm concerned.
Guess what, folks! Ranking time!! My favorite Mariah Carey songs of ALL time from ALL albums (in no particular order): *drum roll & Coco shimmy shake please*
1. Vision Of Love 2. Vanishing 3. And You Don't Remember 4. If It's Over 5. So Blessed 6. Never Forget You 7. Music Box 8. Dreamlover 9. Emotions 10. Fantasy (Remix) 11. Always Be My Baby 12. I Am Free 13. Melt Away 14. Forever 15. Looking In 16. Honey 17. Butterfly 18. My All 19. The Roof (Mobb Deep Remix) 20. Breakdown (Mo Thugs Remix) 21. Close My Eyes 22. The Beautiful Ones 23. Open Arms 24. Outside 25. Heartbreaker 26. Bliss 27. Crybaby 28. Lead The Way 29. Reflections 30. Never Too Far 31. Yours 32. My Saving Grace 33. Subtle Invitation 34. We Belong Together 35. Stay The Night 36. Circles 37. Joy Ride 38. Fly Like A Bird 39. Shake It Off 40. Touch My Body 41. I Stay In Love 42. I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time 43. For The Record 44. Bye Bye 45. I Wish You Well 46. Cruise Control 47. Side Effects 48. I Feel It 49. Betcha Gon Know 50. H.A.T.E. U 51. It's A Wrap 52. Angels Cry 53. #Beautiful 54. The Art Of Letting Go 55. Jesus, What A Wonderful Chile 56. All I Want For Christmas Is You 57. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) 58. When Christmas Comes 59. Oh Santa! 60. Heartbreaker/If You Should Ever Be Lonely (Remix)

Daydream is phenomenal because the vocals are absolutely out of this world. No one can or ever will be able to replicate vocals like that- from gorgeous and delicate to soaring and powerful, her voice was once in a lifetime incredible on that record. Actually, I think the coolest part about listening to her pre-96 albums for the first time is to hear the evolution of her voice. It sounds a little different on each album, and were each amazing in their own ways.
I can't decide which album has my favorite vocals, but I do think Daydream are the most "unique" and "Mariah" of all of them.

The ever changing facets of her voice. I would probably give the nod to Butterfly as the vocals were varied throughout the album. I am sure a lot of people would probably disagree, but I actually really like the vocals on Memoirs. They are varied enough and that album showcases a lot of what I love about Mariah's voice: her tone is unmatched. I actually like her lower register, and I think it was used very well on that album.

I been listening to tons of Mariah lately. I made a Singles Collection playlist of all of her singles. I'm obsessed with "Heartbreaker (Remix)."

I think a good goal for this album would be 250k - 300k sure that isn't a smash but album sales are down. Female artists still relevant but struggling tend to sell in this range now and I think it would be fine for Mariah to be in this territory other females in this area are: Britney Kesha Christina

Mariah is a Legend, with a capital L, dahling, so I'm not sure why you would even put her in the category with those other girls.

Shows how ageless she is- compare it to Charmbracelet and she looks exactly the same! On the contrary, I think it shows that they either used the same old photoshoot or heavily utilized photo-editing software, because Mariah looks little like that photo today, lol.

If she promotes the crap out of it and then tours the USA and the album eventually sells platinum well that would be the new TEOM of her career lol. I'm hoping for 1 million sales in the USA. It would be HUGE.

It really is very simple if the material is great then she will be fine and have decent sales. If it isn't, then it won't be a good era. It is that simple. Memoirs was a nice album, but there were no stand out tracks that made you say that is muthafcukin' Mariah Carey. It was a pretty safe R&B album. She needs to have obvious single choices and not ignore those obvious single choices for album only oriented material.
