So, we should reference Beyonce's album even though there are ZERO similarities...just because?? LOL. OK then. Oh...and I'm PRETTY sure Beyonce had NO idea what you had or didn't have prior to her album's release.

I wonder when they will have snippets for each song on iTunes. I mean its one thing for people to hear the album as a whole which I can understand why she is waiting til after it is released before deciding on the next single. But if there is no snippets so people have an idea on what we may hear then I dont think people will buy her album based on curiousity.

Anyway, I was just watching the making-of thing on "Love Story," and how much better is that song without JD talking all over it?



I wish that version was on the album, because the melody on that song is really beautiful. Can someone fuse that clip of the song with the album version?

Even something like Usher's "Moving Mountains" or Celine's "Skies of L.A." had more heft production-wise.

Oh man, you might be onto something because, while there were some signature Dream/Tricky bells and whistles (especially on Standing Ovation and Obsessed), you've nailed it. As soon as I heard they were going to work together, I thought "I would love to hear what Mariah sounds on an Electrik Red album!" but we never quite got that, did we? I still love Memoirs though.

So, for every album there are at least 2 non-singles that made my top 5. That's what separates Mariah from competitors like Whitney and Celine for me.

I think the problem for Mariah is unfortunately for her she was in a producing bubble for much of her career in that her record company limited who she could work with for her albums. I think had she had a bit more opportunity to work with varied producers early in her career, then she might have moved past the issues that we get with production at times and the trust issues in handing control over to a producer at times. So now, I think we have a combination where yes she kind of muddles the production at times, but I also feel like producers meld their sound to try to capture what they feel the general essence of what a Mariah song is. I think some producers fall under the weight of Mariah's success as much as she does. Some producers don't want to be the one to produce a flop for her. They want to be one of those number 1 songs, so they probably defer to Mariah seeing as she is the key component to the song.

I mean the only way things like that stop is when you have a producer who is just as strong and determined as Mariah.  A good example of that is actually Q-Tip for this album in which he made it known to Mariah that he wasn't going to be happy with anything less than the version he worked out for her.

I like the production on "TGMH" a lot and like the song in general, but it is crying for fuller vocals. So many songs from that era would have been truly great if she had sang them in a fuller voice: My Saving Grace (more so if she hadn't altered the pitch of the belting), Subtle Invitation, Bringin' On The Heartbreak, There Goes My Heart, and Miss You (more so if she hadn't mumbled so much).

But to me, those two songs are filled with such longing...sexual and emotional ... and some kind of a dark, hidden masochism ... and I love these songs coz i can so relate to the lyrics
Especially coz I have experienced so many times those emotions with all my travelings and my emotional/sexual encounters with some boys, especially when I was living in Rome, Italy ...
Dunno, but these two songs are ... just awesome in every way

But Mariah has already had a single out; two, in fact! If you mean she won't have a single that is currently a hit out, that is true, but that has been true for releases other than the Beyonce release. And since Mariah's situation would be because the songs ran their course as opposed to her not having released any singles, someone other than Beyonce would be a better comparison, no? My point is it just seems like people will grasp at all kinds of straws to throw Beyonce's release in as a comparison/influence.

But to me, those two songs are filled with such longing...sexual and emotional ... and some kind of a dark, hidden masochism ... and I love these songs coz i can so relate to the lyrics
Especially coz I have experienced so many times those emotions with all my travelings and my emotional/sexual encounters with some boys, especially when I was living in Rome, Italy ...
Dunno, but these two songs are ... just awesome in every way

I think that's exactly what they meant; "real life" lyrics as in anyone can relate because they are lyrics filled with experiences that most people go through.
