Something happened to elicit the venomous responses Eminem has had toward her, but girl has every right to pretend he didn’t exist if he really was some 5 seconds of sex, a friendship, or whatever they were gone wrong.

I chose not to pay any attention to that mess; only the diss songs regarding their alleged relationship. I'm not surprised because her taste in men has always been dubious and questionable to say the least. :) Well, even on the great "Clown" she acknowledges she took her plane to meet him (which had in part been the basis for his song "Superman").

"You Had Your Chance" is about Luis. His former manager gave an interview and mentioned that, for Luis, Mariah was the love of his life and that he even tried to reconnect with her in Aspen in 2001, after he was a no-show during the Glitter mess, but she wasn't having it ("Where were you when I needed you most?").

Yeah, I remember that part of the song but I don't listen to any of his music, so I haven't heard the song "Superman".

Yeah, I remember that part of the song but I don't listen to any of his music, so I haven't heard the song "Superman". You should read the lyrics to "Superman" just to see how "Clown" was a very clear and clever response to that Eminem song (i.e. the line about the plane, but also lines like "You're so superhero" alluding to Superman and "When the start of the show isn't you anymore" considering "Superman" is on the album The Eminem Show).

It's kind of crazy, but we're actually coming up on the 30th anniversary of Merry Christmas in 2 years. I wonder if there is any push to get it Diamond for that anniversary. There could be another deluxe edition, this one finally giving us her "Where Are You Christmas?" and maybe the GMA performance of "Hark!" It seems possible for someone to just keep releasing different deluxe versions of an album and really get a high certification? Michael Buble has essentially done that with his Christmas album (there have been 5 different deluxe versions of the album). Mariah just has the 1 true deluxe version of Merry Christmas released 3 years ago, but she also had the DualDisc releases and such. Every time she releases one-offs like "I Don't" and "In the Mix," she should just tack them onto a studio album as a deluxe version to at least have those streams count toward something. Additionally, this has me intrigued: Since "Not yet!!" is tied to the holidays for her, I wonder if some type of deal with Peloton and her holiday music is coming. This article says Peloton pays artists better than other streaming services. Do those streams count toward the Hot 100 and such?

I know this is for their top ten "vocalists", but they definitely left out some classic artists.

I eventually got in - despite being in the 'waiting room' 20 minutes early and then seemingly being placed at the end of the queue. Pretty much the exact same seats I got for the 2019 show were now over $1,000 each. So I just thought f**k these greedy hoes and peaced on out.
I'll see what tomorrow brings, but I'm salty that zero effort was put in to prioritize fans over scalpers, and that the dynamic "Platinum" pricing pushed any decent seat up by hundreds of dollars. I miss the Beacon shows where it really felt like an intimate fan experience through and through.

Seeing the HUGE success Taylor Swift is having I see how the word "writer" is almost always mentioned in everything I read about her. And that has been going on for years. It feels like in people's minds they now always connect Taylor to her writing abilities. That's something with which Mariah has struggled forever. What is it? That Taylor had always a guitar with her since the beginning? Is it the genre? How many R&B contemporary singer SONGWRITERS are there of which people are normally aware. Is Alicia Keys one? Not sure. But she has a piano so I guess it makes it easier to make the connection?? I can't think of another one right now. I'm sure there are. Or it was a big marketing error that lasted forever and missed placing her under that category on the general public's head. I always so more focus on her voice instead.

There's a ton of VIP tickets available for the NYC show now - either $855 or $453 depending on how close you want to get. The $855 ticket are rows 1-10 and comes with a pre-show reception and a piece of merch. The $453 ticket are rows 11+ and comes with just the merch. (still more than I care to pay this year, but just in case any of you want them!)

Or it was a big marketing error that lasted forever and missed placing her under that category on the general public's head. I always so more focus on her voice instead. A large part of it is simply the era. Before the 2000s, few women in pop or r&b were known to write. If Tommy had thought it would sell more records he probably would have gone overboard marketing her that way, but for a mainstream pop diva at the time it just wasn't seen as an extra selling point worth pushing; Columbia saw far more mileage out of aiming for rival peer to Whitney than 90s Carole King. I don't know if this makes it better or worse, but it's not even that Mariah's songwriting was disputed or disbelieved (Janet for example still has people who dismiss her credits and say she was not a 'real' artist even after years of JJ and TL repeatedly defending her and saying she had input on everything they made together). Mariah's writing was a point that was simply ignored because it didn't fit the manufactured diva narrative. Ironically Mariah is also likely the biggest reason why we then got so many female artists after 2000 who made a point to co-write at least some if not all of their music; for the girls who grew up on her and read the liner notes Mariah's pen was as much an aspiration as her voice and they recognized it as a useful thing to include in their PR from the start. Alicia's entire persona was built around it, much like Taylor. But for whatever reason that 2000s branding only seemed to fully apply to women who played an instrument; Ashanti and Beyonce are the only exceptions I can think of off the top of my head (and Beyonce probably just serves to prove how much of an uphill battle it usually is for women to get acknowledgement for doing anything other than looking and sounding pretty since it was always a point of immediate doubt and controversy for her). Many 2000s pop girls ended up in that same boat as Mariah did where their notoriety as singers overshadowed their songwriting credits. We have Adele now, but I'm struggling to think of any other current top 40/r&b woman who is fully acknowledged as a songwriter despite not playing an instrument. If anything we've kind of found ourselves in an unfortunate full circle moment where there are so many vanity credits supposedly running around now that we're back at square one with people assuming all the credits are fake and that women in pop don't write.

Fallon says Mariah is coming on. Also, MBB says they've sung in the studio together, which lends credence to the SUG theory.

Hopefully Queen is getting them vocal chords TO-GE-THER! She's been sounding like shit for years so don't buy a ticket without expecting dry vocals with lip-synced moments all over.
