I hope she has her vocals together for these televised moments. Or at least tapped Bey or Celine for tips on how to convincingly lip sync. hopefully she doesn’t lip to the album version like she did at the Macys parade

Depends on how you define 'staple,' but if you want to take a pure chart take on it, this is genuinely the correct answer: AIWFCIY has appeared on at least one Billboard chart every year since its release. Its initial chart appearances were on HAC and Radio Songs, as old Hot 100 rules rendered it ineligible to chart there. Once the H100 rules changed to allow airplay-only singles to chart, AIWFCIY made its first appearance the next holiday season (which in itself was impressive for a five-year old Christmas song with no physical single, during a time when there was no such thing as a 'Christmas song takeover'). After that, it charted in the top 10 on Hot 100 Recurrents every year until Billboard started allowing holiday songs to re-chart on the current Hot 100 again. The Daily Telegraph named it the UK's most played holiday song of the 2000s decade, indicating it entered the 21st century already a budding classic there. Now, the more hard-to-define moment where it became noticeably ubiquitous to the general public and not just a regular AI repeat on your AC station's playlist - I'd probably say it took ~11 years. I think Mariah smashing with The Emancipation of Mimi in 2005 also spilled over into that year's holiday season and gave AIWFCIY a turbo boost that ended up becoming permanent. AIWFCIY topped Digital Songs that year, and that is also the first year it began not only reaching the top ten on, but topping Hot 100 Recurrents...a convo better reserved for Mariah's thread but we lambs really should have a discussion one day about how TEOM's legacy runs even deeper than we give it credit for. That comeback album is indirectly why Mariah became the Queen of Christmas. To bring this back to Kelly though, while I'm not going to say UTT is moving as fast as or faster than AIWFCIY, it is nonetheless very impressive how well UTT continues to do with virtually no effort and Kelly herself somewhat competing 'against' it with subsequent releases. UTT is kind of a similar situation with 2000s AIWFCIY, where the artist in question is no longer on the label that released the song and there's not much incentive on either end to continually push it. I do wonder how long it will take for UTT to eventually nab a top 10 Hot 100 peak. There's hardly any competition from non-seasonal releases this year (the points UTT had last year at its peak would be enough to be top 5 this week), but she seems 'stuck' at #11 when looking at Christmas songs only. I think the point difference gets fairly narrow in the lower top 10/upper teens range the final one or two holiday chart weeks, so maybe even just one little thing like performing it on Kellyoke the week of Christmas could give it enough of a boost. An anniversary single for a quick sales boost could also push it in, but that would require some extra effort and coordination with RCA that I don't expect to happen. A re-recording will count as a separate chart entry and is not likely to do nearly as well as the original (see AIWFCIY 'extra festive' mix) so I don't think it would be worth it to try that and I'm sure Atlantic feels the same; they would rather try their chances with a new song altogether. Bringing this here because I don’t wanna make Kelly’s thread an MC discussion, etc. But the point you made about Emancipation is so true. It also helped AIWFCIY that 2005 Xmas season to top the iTunes song chart, something it didn’t do again until the 2019 season! That just shows how much the MIMI era helped Mariah’s image after what she went though with the general public. Of course it also helps that AIWFCIY is an incredibly crafted song. A masterpiece, IMO. Always felt that way about it, since the first moment I heard it. I think it needs to be mentioned that "AIWFCIY" was released at a time when the 'holiday season' wasn't what it is now; the AC format as a whole didn't go full Christmas the way it does now, for instance (that trend took off in the 2000s; see below). Mariah actually helped make it a thing for current artists to promote holiday albums like new albums and for all of this to be a thing, so in general it's easier for newer songs to make an immediate impact than it was in the past. Having said that, "AIWFCIY" was ahead of the pack from the start as it was a main fixture of holiday airplay from the start. Here is a timeline of its chart success: 1994 - #9 Top 40 peak (only holiday song) and #6 AC peak (only holiday song in the top 25) 1995 - re-entered Hot 100 Airplay and AC chart, one of few holiday songs to do so (only holiday song in top 50 of H100 Airplay and the top holiday song AC that season) 1996 - re-entered H100 Airplay and AC; #3 of all holiday songs on AC chart 1/11/97 1999 - top older holiday song on H100 Airplay and AC as 98 Degrees and Kenny G each had new songs in the 30s on H100 Airplay and Kenny G's new song was top 10 AC 2000 - only old holiday song to debut on the Hot 100 when they became eligible (it should be noted the rule meant any holiday songs that hade made the Hot 100 before couldn't chart so this was the top of those that hadn't) 2003 - #7 Digital sales peak; only holiday song in top 10 12/27/03 2004 - #6 Digital sales peak; next Christmas song at #26 12/25/04 2005 - #1 Digital sales peak; next Christmas song at #23 that week 1008 - Billboard ran a Hot Holiday Songs chart this season, and "AIWFCIY" and "RATCT" traded off at #1 2009 - only holiday song in top 15 of Digital Songs As these stats prove, "AIWFCIY" was standing out among all holiday songs from its very first year. No newer holiday song since then has consistently been among the all-time holiday songs like it has been all along. Kelly's 10th FanAs for what I mentioned above about AC radio, look at these stats to see how holiday songs taking over AC radio grew: 2001 - no holiday songs in the top 10 12/29/01 chart 2002 - Groban's "O Holy Night" hit #1 AC on 12/28/02 chart; it was the only holiday song in top 10 2003 - this holiday season saw only 2 holiday songs peak in the AC top 10 2004 - the 1/8/05 chart was 3/4 holiday songs, including 9 of the top 10 2005 - the 1/7/06 chart was over half holiday songs including 8 of the top 10 You can see there was a small increase from 2001-2003, and then starting in 2004 there was a huge jump in holiday songs taking over AC radio. So, when "AIWFCIY" made the top 10 at AC radio in 1994 (and then again in 2000!) it was doing something almost no other holiday songs were doing at that time. :ETA: The conversation you quoted was about "UTT" and someone mentioned "Santa Tell Me" as well. I will note some initial Top 40 peaks for new holiday songs, and you can again see how "AIWFCIY" was way ahead of the pack: Boyz II Men "Let it Snow" - none Mariah's "AIWFCIY" - #9 Justin Bieber's "Mistletoe" - #46 Kelly Clarkson's "UTT" - none Ariana Grande's "Santa Tell Me" - #39

I wish she moved around more during her shows rather than look like if she took a breath let alone move, she would destroy her clothes.

I don't think I've seen it here, but I've seen lambs elsewhere post about getting Mariah's "CBPCH" on the Hot 100 for the first time. They think because it hasn't charted before it can debut wherever, but that's not the case. Because it's so old, it's being treated as recurrent even though it has never charted on the Hot 100; that means it has to make the top 50 to chart on the Hot 100. We have proof this week, as it likely would have made the chart in the very low 90s this week if it were eligible. On the latest Holiday 100 Mariah's "CBPCH" is #56. Lizzo has a song at #54 and Kane Brown has a song at #58. Lizzo's song is at #96 on the Hot 100, and Kane Brown's song is #1 on Bubbling Under (i.e. essentially #101 on the Hot 100). Mariah's "CBPCH" not being on the Hot 100 or the Bubbling Under chart shows that it isn't eligible for the Hot 100 unless it makes the top 50.

What part did he skip? I think he was singing the intro. Anyway, Mariah's talent really shines through on the bridge here: The way she starts off doing a low harmony and then effortlessly switches to a high harmony I bow.

And some say you can’t move to a Mariah Carey song… Speaking of this dance anthem, this cover from this year totally flew under the radar. #dancesmashhitwonder

"Someday" is an absolute jam and very underrated in her catalog (especially by Mariah herself).

We need more of THIS Mariah, less of the stiff half live struggles we've gotten over the past 2-3 years. The runs she did in this setting are just so impressive (00:30), as were her transitions from head to chest voice which, I unfortunately haven't seen live much over the past couple years.
This doesn't feel like that long ago but it was 2013.

Did Mariah even answer half of Colbert's questions? Lol she was in a fun mood, but I cannot imagine trying to interview her. They also didn't talk about her CBS special at all; just the Colbert mention at the very end.

Can you imagine if she went on Kelly Clarkson's show? NOTHING would get done.

I thought he did a pretty great job though of having fun with her and her tangents and humour.
I loved the end where she was interacting with the band and actually moving to the music! That was such a cute, fun moment to see her so relaxed and enjoying herself.

The fact that Mariah refers to it as "a nice gesture" implies someone gave/sent it to her, so I wonder what they're thinking lol

Mariah starting of the segment shading the pressed others over the Christmas Queen title without saying their names is everything and how the industry is ripping off artists. Her personality is so my cup of tea. With how new age celebrities talk she is a breath of fresh air so real and funny Also after the Celine news I ain't taking any moment for granted while she still around https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cl5UvVZpDyU

Dang. 1/16 of a cent per stream? I am terrible at math, but from my estimations (lol) that would be like 312k for 500 million streams. Artists aren't making much of anything on streams. I'd be curious to see what labels were making. =/
Meanwhile, love her Mary comment in reference to the QOC title. Her humor is fantastic! haha
