I was going to say Caution is probably Mariah’s smoothest listening album ever. I can play that album all the way through and enjoy every single minute.

I just do not like at all her voice on that album. Like it is not hers. The only song I can listen is GTFO.

“Giving Me Life” alone is better than Almost Home or Triumphant, or any stand alone single of hers.

How is her voice on "Caution" not hers? How is her voice on "The Distance" not hers? Meanwhile Twitter stan culture remains the worst. Some sources posted that The Weeknd has the longest "active" streak of years with a top 10 hit. Lambs are crying foul, with some apparently not having read the word "active" and others saying they should be posting about Mariah since she had a longer streak. Why would they be posting about a streak from over 20 years ago? Lol. I cannot stand stan culture. Lastly my girl Nelly Furtado stay stanning!

I do like "Almost Home" quite a bit, but I agree that it doesn't touch a song like "Giving Me Life." Everything on that song is aces.
Even though Mariah's standalone singles this past decade have been hit or miss, MIAM and Caution are both great albums, so the quality control is still there. A new album may not even do Caution numbers, but if it can match it quality wise, that would be a win.

Giving Me Life is a masterpiece!
I’m actually super nervous of what MC16 will sound like because Caution is such an amazing album to me and it saddens me that it didn’t get much traction. It still feels so fresh. I love that she collaborated with new people and the end result was just beautiful to me.

Caution was released at one of the lowest points of her career (the Stella era), so it would've been a tough sell no matter what. I also don't know if there was a surefire hit single, though "A No No" or "The Distance" would've been ideal for the lead- especially "A No No" with a hot remix.
Mariah's image/reputation is in a completely different league than when she released Caution. I don't know if it'll translate to sales, but it at least increases the odds of it being recognized.

Caution got great reviews, and "With You" was a top 10 at AC and Adult R&B formats so on the whole it did well. Mariah is in a better place now, but the reality is she isn't a current commercial force outside of the holidays. Even when she's hopped on a remix, they haven't done much. I don't have any commercial expectations for a new album, but would be entirely happy with something of the quality of MIAM and Caution.

Given the low spin counts at Pop radio right now, if she picks a focus single that can work on and is promoted to AC/HAC/R&B again, it could crack Top 50.
EDIT: Also, I've been thinking of setting up a website to create an email list and a pledge for people to buy Mariah's lead single as a digital download when it comes out. As we learned with "Rich Men North of Richmond," Mariah could get a #1 with 100-150k in sales. She's definitely have more airplay and streaming points that RMNOR did.

I'd disagree with this a bit. "Caution" was one of the best reviewed albums of her career. Universal praise across the board, pretty much. The critics loved it, even if it didn't sell in numbers. That was firmly in the "Mariah is a legend and we should treat her as such" period that a lot of critics have now adopted toward her career.

I was going to say Caution came out after she ditched Stella. I remember people talking about Mariah when she released Caution as being back in the sense of not doing the ridiculous things she did under Stella. I think overall what did Caution in was she released it so close to the holidays, and she didn’t market it after a certain point. She tried to go back after the holidays and release A No No but her momentum was caput after that. She really needed to release the album in August not October to at least market the album properly.

The title track was absolutely the lead single material they slept on, IMO. Slap on a McRemix with a popular male artist (Bruno Mars, Drake, The Weeknd, though I dunno if any of them would have bitten) and I think it could have been an actual hit. It wasn't so far from when '#Beautiful' had actually had a pretty successful run. I like GTFO, but it was a little flat to announce a new era.
Regardless of the rollout, it was wonderful to see the critics give her praise and, of course, to get an album that I really loved. 'Giving Me Life' and '8th Grade' are really top tier for me.

Caution was released close to the holiday season, but it's hard to know if it would have made a difference if it was in a few months earlier. "GTFO" was released in September and didn't do much. Considering Mariah was coming off the Stella years, they probably figured the culture would be more open to Mariah during the holiday season. I think I'd agree considering the previous few years. Her promo wasn't as much as usual, but it wasn't bad either. Three songs had videos, and she did one of her larger tours in support of the album. She also had a handful of promo performances: iHeart Radio Festival in September - "GTFO" American Music Awards in October - "With You" Good Morning America in November - "With You" Jimmy Fallon in November - "The Distance" Billboard Music Awards in 2019 - "A No No" as part of a medley The real letdown was that "A No No" remix with Lil Kim and Cardi B never coming to fruition. I forget the source of those rumors and such, but there seemed to be real interest in that potential remix. I also still don't understand why some other tracks - like the title track imbuemyblue mentioned - weren't at least pushed to Adult R&B radio. In general that's a format Mariah's team hasn't capitalized on enough.

Whatever ends up coming out, I am hoping it is more than ten tracks. 'Caution' was a very concise albums but I think it could have had at least two more songs on it. Given it's been six years since that album, I am hoping for a few more songs this go around.

In general that's a format Mariah's team hasn't capitalized on enough. This part, so much. For someone who was Queen of Radio for a long time, there's no reason she shouldn't be scoring R&B number ones as easily as Alicia Keys, MJB, and Toni Braxton.

"Many queer people of color still feel that even in the ways we are celebrated, we are equally misunderstood and flattened — by pop culture, by straight people, and by each other. The connection many of us have to Mariah reaches depths that go far beyond the it’s-fine-to-be-gay anthems of pop artists such as Taylor Swift or the seemingly opportunistic pandering of the Harry Styles of the world. I think it’s as simple as this: Mariah Carey has always spoken to us like there’s nobody else in the room. And for that, she’ll get many more decades of our devotion."

Gonna be devastated if this album isn’t happening very soon with all the breadcrumbs at this point lol. I just hope it’s no later than June, because the crucial first few months of an album cycle in the streaming era absolutely can’t overlap with All I Want season. That would be a huge mistake on her team’s part.
I will also maintain Mariah has gotten such a massive awareness and relevancy boost among Gen z and whatnot in the past half decade, that a huge smash is actually possible. It all depends on the music itself really and how hard she/they go for promo. The thing is though, if she ended up with her 20th #1, you know there’s no way she’d rest until she managed to get that 21st and the record to herself. Which I’d worry she’d potentially fall into desperation tactics over….

I'm still confused as to why she's celebrating TEOM on its 19th anniversary still. WELP!
The only reason that would make sense is that she has 2025 BOOKED to capacity for the Slaydream celebration.
