Obsessed is that diss track of our times and keeps on giving. The second verse alone >>> all hip hop diss tracks combined from the last decade.

The show in LA made virtually no noise? I'm not exactly sure what you mean; did the one last year make a lot of noise? Having said that, this is the first holiday season where I've personally felt a lack of momentum for Mariah/"AIWFCIY." I know a lot of people have bitched about her overkill during the holiday season for awhile now, but I've never noticed where it really showed up anywhere in terms of the stats. In previous years we'd have all these tweets about how "AIWFCIY" was getting its best streams ever at various points, but that isn't happening this year. I think ticket sales for her shows are decent, maybe even really solid, but it also feels like those have taken longer to sell out this year (I could be wrong on that, though). I'm sure the set list being so similar year to year is part of it, but unless she releases a third holiday album that's going to be the case because the reality is she's only recorded 25 or so holiday songs in total so there's not much to choose from (well, she could also do live covers of holiday songs she hasn't recorded to spice the show up). It would be nice if in 2025 she focused on new music and scaled back the focus on the holidays a bit.

Not to bring negativity, but the only discussion I’ve seen for the recent performances was… well criticism.
I will say, I do think she should semi-retire as far as it goes with just performing old classic music. I will gladly anticipate if she wants to put out *new music* however there is absolutely nothing exciting from seeing her perform “We Belong Together” or “All I Want for Christmas” for the 737383rd time. If there’s a special occasion or such that calls for a performance I think it would be anticipated but the yearly tours for just old music in her current state just really give cash grab.
Also won’t harp on the lackluster performing but it really does seem like as of recent her effort has declined notably. I give her grace because I know she may still also be dealing with Patricia/Alison’s deaths but alas that’s more of a reason I think she should be resting and relaxing instead of performing old music everywhere.

The Christmas eras will likely always be successful, but they might see diminishing returns. It would be smart of her to focus on non-Christmas music soon. I'll give her credit for hopping on remixes this year, even if they didn't pan out the way we'd hoped. Certainly someone would love to work with her on an original song.

I have to say I am very disappointed in her performances this year. She barely sings anything live and barely moves. I know she was getting like this prior to 2023, but even then she was singing live more, and wasn’t looking at the teleprompter every 5 seconds.
I know her hardcore lambs know this and probably don’t care because they want to see her anyways, which is fine - hell, I would probably still go see her if she did a show closer to me.
But I feel bad for casual fans who might think they’re hearing live vocals when they’re not. It’s misleading, and along with her low energy, it’s not a great look. Judging from what I see online, more people are noticing.

To be fair, I feel like she kept it more low-key last year (probably since the 30th anniversary was next year). Honestly, even this year has been a bit more low-key than I thought the 30th anniversary would be. In the past few years, we've gotten an expanded version of Merry Christmas (25th anniversary), new Christmas music ("Fall in Love at Christmas"), an Apple TV+ Christmas special (with a soundtrack), CBS Christmas special, etc. This year, there's really nothing besides the 30th anniversary versions of MC and AIWFCIY, which mostly contains music we already have.
Plus, the timing may have also had a lot to do with those streaming records. Although AIWFCIY has been a perennial favorite for a while, The 25th anniversary in 2019 felt like pivotal moment where Mariah was unofficially annointed the "Queen of Christmas" by the masses. Then the next year we had the pandemic, which lasted a few years, and Christmas music was a source of escapism for many people. Now, we're out of the pandemic and Mariah is already the undisputed "Queen of Christmas", so we might just be seeing an expected normalizing/evening out.

I still maintain that she probably has to do these 'cash grabs' for financial reasons. Her lifestyle is expensive. I don't think her heart is really in it (not to mention she seemingly has nerves about performing), but I also think she also kind of has to do these. Plus, the timing may have also had a lot to do with those streaming records. Although AIWFCIY has been a perennial favorite for a while, The 25th anniversary in 2019 felt like pivotal moment where Mariah was unofficially annointed the "Queen of Christmas" by the masses. Now, we're out of the pandemic and Mariah is already the undisputed "Queen of Christmas", so we might just be seeing an expected normalizing/evening out. Well, even during all of that "RATCT" was always gaining on "AIWFCIY" because of Spotify. It's just that "AIWFCIY" was so far ahead for awhile, but the race got closer every year. And it's still not that "AIWFCIY" has declined, its that "RATCT" increased by even more. This is nice, maybe hopeful, but also a potentially misleading statistic since November 9 didn't fall on the same day of the week each of those years and that can make a big difference. Last year November 9 was a Thursday, which is usually a slow day for streams.

I don't necessarily disagree, especially since she clearly looks unenthusiastic in these performances so it seems like an 'obligation' per se. However, I do find it mildly surprising that after her decades of accumulated success and annual Christmas royalties (guaranteed millions per year essentially) she lives a lifestyle that is so excessive that she still needs further money to maintain it. Ofcourse we aren't her financial advisors nor even know anything about her bank account at the end of the day so it's not anyone's place to be concerned or judge her lifestyle but I would hope someone as successful as her and at her current stage in life isn't working out of any slight obligation. I would be completely fine from a fan perspective if she just focused on new music, did a few month promotion/performance blitz for new music once it eventually came out, and then otherwise rested. She has nothing to prove obviously and there is nothing to be gained from casually continuing to keep herself busy with yearly tours and revisiting old eras.

Well, we know her initial deal with Sony was a bad one, so I'm not sure how much she even made off the 1990s (hell, selling 'Sing Sing' may have been her biggest money maker, assuming she got half of that). She made out great from the Virgin deal, and presumably had a decent deal at Universal, but for the last 15 years she's mostly been making money off royalties and touring. She's also seemingly been spending a lot of her own money for videos and other promo (didn't she say she released "The Art of Letting Go" on her own? And who paid for things like that "Portrait" remix?). Anyway, doesn't she now have places in New York, Aspen, and Los Angeles? Three places ain't cheap to buy, or to maintain. Another thing I think about is how she always travels with an entourage. She is paying some of those people all of the time, essentially. I would bet for her to even do something like the Instagram with Kerry Washington is a big expense because she's paying for styling, bodyguard, a driver, etc. She surely has someone doing her grocery shopping, someone driving her around, etc. She's also had lawsuits to deal with (some songwriting stuff, but also that former assistant, Stella, her family); most have been dismissed and such, but she still had to pay lawyers. All of that takes a lot of money. I always think of Aretha Franklin and how she always had to keep touring because of financial issues. Maybe that colors my perception, but Mariah is a 'classic diva' like Aretha so I tend to draw that parallel. If that's true I don't judge her for it, just saying I personally think that's why she does all of these shows that she doesn't seem overly interested in. Mariah has always said she's happiest in the studio, so it seems odd that the past few years of her career has been mostly focused on her live shows.

I love Christmas music, but can’t imagine blasting it right now. Where I live it’s still been 60-75 some days. And I live in New England (Boston). I may be seeing her in December, but couldn’t imagine seeing a Christmas concert now. Lol Well maybe I could for Mimi…

Sometimes, I don't even play Christmas music until the day of Christmas itself.

Apparently, she has a court date where she is going to have to testify in the case her brother filed against her.
