Not that it can't have been recycled for a new album, but this seems odd. Would definitely be interesting, but Mariah has done this a time or two in her career. Close My Eyes she famously started writing about four years before it appeared on "Butterfly." I'm pretty sure she said she started writing "Bye Bye" around the time he dad got sick/died and the popped up six or so years later on E=MC2. "Somewhat Loved" was a song she had written with the Dream a while back that turned up on that Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis project. Would be different though if a song THAT old wasn't just on an album all these years later but was also the lead single. |

That sounds like a false rumor to me.
I could only see it being true if "Panic The City" were to lead The Butterfly Lounge (ie: a niche project), not unlike the way "Save The Day" (a song done in 2011) was chosen as the lead single off The Rarities from 2020.
