An email from Kelly Clarkson is referenced, so I guess they reached out to her for comment:

“When Mariah came out with her first Christmas record, she changed the game for all of us,” Clarkson said in an email, adding, “She paved the way for all of us to be able to have a chance at creating original Christmas songs because she proved to the industry how not only lucrative it could be — but how magical it can be to have a record that is a part of your life every year.”

The comment in the article about people being 'haunted' by "AIWFCIY" makes me think the next "It's time" video needs to relate to that. She's already poked fun at herself and the frozen memes with last year's video, so why not do something with that as well?

Happy 25th Anniversary to the Rainbow album! Officially released on November 2, 1999.

Mariah Carey is already one of the bestselling musicians of all time, but she’s not done selling just yet. One of the superstar’s most fondly-remembered albums is back on the Billboard charts this week, as sales of the title exploded following a special re-release.

Rainbow sold almost 1,900 copies throughout America last week. According to Luminate, that sum is up considerably from the period prior.

Just one week earlier, Rainbow sold just over single-digit copies on every available format. Carey witnessed the classic project’s sales sum in the U.S. rise 11,743% from one frame to the next—but what caused that spike?

Carey re-released Rainbow earlier this year to celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary. A new special edition arrived in June, just in time for Pride. Recently, vinyl copies that followers likely largely purchased some time ago finally shipped, which makes all those sales eligible for the Billboard tallies.

Rainbow returns to the Top Album Sales chart this week, thanks to those nearly 2,000 purchases. The title lands at No. 47 on the 50-spot ranking of the bestselling full-lengths and EPs in the U.S. Previously, Carey’s studio effort nearly conquered the list, rising all the way to the runner-up rung.

Carey and her fans also send Rainbow to the Vinyl Albums chart. The late-’90s favorite enters that tally at No. 21, as the wax copies that were sold weeks, if not months ago, now aid the title’s overall presence on the rankings.

Didn't she do a couple of similar things last year? I remember us wondering whether she threw shade then, too. Tbh I could see Brenda just being told what to do and her not having much clue (though "It's time" is uber-famous at this point).

It's wild but Brenda has some really nasty stans online who call Mariah names and such. They might just be Mariah haters who have latched onto Brenda since she's solid competition, not sure.

Speaking of, I am really anxious about this holiday season. Brenda had been gaining on "AIWFCIY" for years, and then last year "RATCT" was #1 for 3 weeks. If that momentum/trend continues, "AIWFCIY" may not get to #1 at all this season. The 30th anniversary should help, but I don't see those physical singles selling much since there's not anything actually new on them to entice fans to buy them. As long as Spotify has that 'Christmas Classics' playlist for older songs and no equivalent playlist for more modern ones, the older songs will have that big advantage.
