That whole album is dated now... and the point being Mariah's music often ages quite well. That album (in general) did not. It's way more dated than Emancipation. That's the risk when an act hops on trends like the T-Pain/autotune trend of that time.

Always Be My Bunghole is above WBT and Hero in terms of signature song. It’s most streamed behind AIWAFCIY!

"Dated" has never bothered me. A lot of great music is 'dated.' It doesn't stop me from loving it.

Not yet, because I don't much feel like paying over $30 for them. Mimi done stolen enough of my dollars. I fell for her butterfly juice that time.

Not everything has to be timeless, maybe I just want something that encapsulates a certain sound or era of music and E=MC² does just that for me. Same can be said for Rainbow, too. Being dated now doesn't change the fact that Migrate should've been a single choice early on in the album's life.

I actually came back to say I LOVE "dated" music because when I listen to it, it takes me right back to that time in my life.

I am the delusional mini lamb that perhaps "IWKWLI" could have hit IF it didn't have the loud messy ending with the choir etc. It was beautifully done until the climax. I hoped others wouldn't have minded it. I used to always hear "I wish Mariah would do a ballad" from non/casual fans.
I always wanted "Standing O" as a single but then I noticed how many fans didn't care for it? "Up Out Of My Face" could have done well if released w/the remix as the second single. People loved "Obsessed"? Why not go with another bop? I guess the label was thinking the true and tried ballad was best as a 2nd single???? Those days were over though, put something out that's going to get some attention.

On its 105th week on the Official U.K. chart, "All I Want for Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey remains at No.1 for a second week in a row and I am quite happy about it!

OMG, I got snowed in the other day and almost ordered Mariah's Cookies on door dash, lol (ended up getting cheesecake instead). I had no idea it was associated with her.

IWTKWLI was a jarring addition to Memoirs... and I never understood its placement besides her wanting to continue the re-worked cover tradition. It was bonus track material, not single material.

They should've at least made it grandiose with a better production. As it is, with the abrupt ending and the finger snap beat, it sounds demo-esque.

They compressed a song that is originally 5-6 minutes (in both album AND single form) into a 3 minute track with karaoke-esque production. The video was also just as cheap as the song itself and was a major letdown especially with Hype Williams attached. I thought it could've been more slick since that was the time of his letter box aesthetic but the terrible green screening on the stadium monitors and random people being shown with no backstory make it seem as if it was shot for some New York City tribute but they forgot and just focused on Mariah instead.

The finger-clicks in the first verse drive me crazy - they really seemed to think they were creating a moment

It was a terrible single choice, but after "Obsessed," I don't know if anything else off Memoirs would've been a top ten hit. I do remember there was one listening party where everyone was excited about "IWKWLI" but not the other songs. With E=MC2 and Memoirs' first two singles which were so different, it was like she was trying to please everyone, but it just ended up confusing people more. I don't think anything would have been a top 10 hit but "IWTKWLI" was a big 180 from "O" and also had that terrible video. Additionally the Memoirs era had no real 'theme' since the "Obsessed" hype was related to Eminem. Having said that "IWTKWLI" could have been targeted to AC radio and then something else to the major formats. There was no logical reason for "IWTKWLI" to be a full single pushed to all formats. Yeah, looking back late 2008/2009 was a real demarcation point in pop radio. The R&B and hip-hop that had dominated most of the decade was getting faded out for straight up pop and dance pop (like with Gaga coming on really strong and BEP having a huge moment thanks in part to a David Guetta produced song I Gotta Feeling). The sound of pop radio was changing. Obsessed was able to sneak in there and get into the top 10, but when you listen to Memoirs, the Dream’s production wasn’t really what was “in” at that moment, even if Single Ladies had been huge at the beginning of 2009. It would’ve been hard for any of those songs to be huge pop hits, because 2009 altered the landscape of pop radio, looking back.

As well as Mariah has done at Top 40 (and other formats), her core radio format has always been Rhythmic. That's where they should have focused the Memoirs singles.

I'll bet Mariah and Gloria avoided each other as much as possible. "More Than Just Friends" says hello. I'm not saying it's not a good song, but it didn't scream hit in 2009. I did gain more of an appreciation of Memoirs after the ranking last year, but it's still down there in terms of how I'd rank her albums. I was expecting an album full of songs in the vein of "Portrait" and "The Art of Letting Go" (i.e. more organic and raw vs. some slicker production and some love songs).
